Re: [digitalradio] Re: Digital Modes Overview Wiki Project ?

2008-06-12 Thread Andreas Rehberg
Hi,

I've already seen links to two existing ham-wikis in this discussion.
Probably there are many more out there.
So the goal should be to get all that info to one place - not to establish
another one.

 Andy,

I have no idea how to host a Wiki but have a good Windows 2003 server +
SQL Server 2005 system with a few domains there - www.ham-radio-deluxe.com
and www.ham-radio.ch and www.hb9drv.ch . If you can point me at a URL I can
make webspace available if you can't get sorted out anywhere else.

 I have a top-notch Web / Sysadmin guy.

Re: [digitalradio] Icom Data Mode / ACC(1) Socket?

2008-04-07 Thread Andreas Rehberg
Tony,

No, it is not disabled. That means that any device connected
on the ACC socket will feed back to your audio in standard
SSB mode with mic connected.
While mostly inaudiable - depending on the device - sometimes
SSB audio is interfered.

 All,

Can anyone tell me if the ACC(1) socket audio on an Icom rig is disabled
when the rig is taken out of data mode? I was told that USB-D / LSB-D
must be selected for the ACC socket to work when using the port for
 sound card modes.

 Thanks,

 Sent this email this morning:

 Good morning Charles,

It is 12:26 PM on Sunday January 6, and you transmitted, calling to
 connect
with WG3G on 10.138 in Pactor 1, over top of an ongoing test of the
NarrowBand Emergency Messaging System that had been going on for half an
hour. What we want to know is your boat's position at 12:20 PM on Sunday,
January 6, or if you were in Patchogue NY, so we can figure out why you
 may
not have seen any activity on the frequency before transmitting for WG3G.
Your website says you do not have a cruising boat yet, so we don't know
where you might have been. You were a solid S7 here in South Carolina. One
of the stations also on the air is not too far away, in Fredonia, NY.

We understand that accidents happen, but with six stations sharing the
frequency, it is unlikely that you could not have copied any of them,
especially since I copied you perfectly.

Attached is a screen capture of the incident. Your signal is centered on
 the
diamond and if you look hard you can see the PSK63 signal you covered up.

We will be testing the NarrowBand Emergency Messaging System around this
frequency in the coming days, so the frequency will often be occupied.

You write on your web page that the hamming bug has bitten you. Since you
already work Pactor, maybe you would like to participate in the test of
 the
NBEMS. If so to to http://www.w1khj/NBEMS for information and a link to
 download the software.

We are looking forward to your helping us understand how this collision
 happened.

Really it's down to the programmers - let's make

 John,

Any particular reason you think that European hams will be the ones
developing the ARQ sound card modes?

We have the one ARQ mode developed by a U.S. ham for MS-Win XP and
Reins, PSKmail for Linux. In addition, K9PS developed a proposal for ARQ
modes that I believe was used by Reins for PSKmail.

So it seems to me to be about even at the present time.

Many of us have done all the hardware stuff years ago, but it doesn't
interest us anymore. Hardware solutions have a dedicated microprocessor
to keep the timing very tight. Non real time OS's need to have a wider
gap in time. I agree that Amtor and Pactor are dead as far as sound card
modes go. But we will eventually have some enterprising and brilliant
programmer come along and create a practical ARQ mode for sound cards.
