You can use pretty much anything with a web browser.

The Nokia 770 web pad has a specifically designed skin which is
available in Slimserver 6.5 beta, and works well. There is also a skin
and some native apps for PocketPCs

Re: [slim] Control SB3 With Nintendo DS

2006-08-12 Thread kolepard002
I was wondering if anyone has ever thought to make a way to
control the SB via a Nintendo DS? Is it even possible? Just thought
I'd throw it out there :)

There's a cartridge--currently Japan only--with the Opera Web browser built in
to it. I'm hoping they release where I am because I'm interested in trying it.

I'm not aware of another way to do it at the moment, though perhaps someone
else knows of one.

[slim] Windows cannot find 'SlimServer Web Interface.url

I've been using SS without incident for a year. Recently, I believe
upon download of the latest stable version of SS (6.3.1), it runs
perfectly until I re-boot my computer. When the computer is up after
the re-boot, I try to open up the web interface of SS and get this
message: Windows cannot find 'SlimServer Web Interface.url' Make sure
you typed the name correctly

If I reinstall SS it works nicely until the next re-boot.

Can anyone help?

Love SlimServer and Squeezebox...but this is putting a cramp in my

I was told on another forum that some receivers, if connected via

Right, but it shouldn't _lose_ the signal (or mute its outputs, or
whatever its doing) just because the input goes silent. Squeezebox
does not interrupt the s/pdif signal when changing tracks.

So, do you see any indicators changing on the front panel when this
happens?

Player Settings - Audio - Audio Startup Time can introduce a delay:

 Audio Startup Time

Some audio receivers and D/A converters need a little extra time to
start decoding audio from the player when playing back MP3 audio. You
can specify how much time, in seconds, to wait after pressing play to
start sending MP3 audio. The default value is 0, a value of 0.25
 seconds works for many receivers.

However I believe it only works when the SB starts up, not between
tracks because the SB isn't stopping.

I've tried taking the listen links and putting them into the Radio

Anyone know how I can get shows off Nugs.net to stream through

That's my philosophy. It can be as noisy as necessary as long as it's
far away. Video is no problem either. I use a pair of A/V over CAT5

an injector merges the signal with the rest of my TV cable channels. I
have total silence in my listening/watching places.

I'd be very grateful for any ideas you may have.

SlimServer transmits audio over TCP/IP using the SlimProto protocol.
Other programs don't know how to read this, and no plugins exist to
record this. (In fact, it may be illegal to do so for protected
streams like Rhapsody and Pandora).

If you want to record something, play it back in any player that
outputs sound to your computer speakers - there are programs that will
record that sound.

Yes, and then just record the stream using the application of your
choice. 'Audacity' (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) can do this, for
example, and save to a whole range of file formats.

Regarding the quality, unfortunately, this will vary quite a bit. The
sound coming in is analog so it will have to be digitized, and this can
be done well or very poorly. Since it's analog, it will be susceptible
to electrical noise as well. It's also going through Windows'
wonderful audio mixer that does all sorts of great things to it. :-P

For a laptop, you can get outboard USB sound cards. The best cards
will be PCI cards from professional sound companies like M-Audio - the
Delta 44, Audiophile 192 and Audiophile 2496, for example. Some of
these cards have digital in, which will eliminate electrical noise as
well as the impact of digitizing.

I believe the guy that writes SoftSqueeze is developing a new
application to do the low level music playing and network streaming
for a next generation version of SoftSqueeze. Think it's called
Squeezeslave. It might be pretty easy to modify that to just dump the

2006-08-12 Thread matthijskoopmans

You could add the shows to the My Picks editor plugin... The plug-in
stores the show url's in an OPML file which you can access at any
time.

From a user perspective, you would browse to Internet Radio, My Picks,
Nugs.net Shows, show you want to listen to.mp3. I have tested this
with the Hot Mama show, and it works like a breeze.

However, this will not work if the MP3 names are changed with each
show. Then you would need a fixed playlist url to point to.

Good luck

Matt

But is there anyway to get the whole playlist to load or is track by
 track the only way?

 Thanks

That example I gave is a playlist. They're still just single mp3 files,
but of more than one track.

2006-08-12 Thread dgpretzel

In fact, it may be illegal to do so...

[slightly OT comment]
The current legal and cultural atmosphere just continues to rub me the
wrong way.

Sigh.

How unthinkable it would have been, just 10 years ago, to suggest that
it was or should be illegal to record (for personal use) audio or video
that was properly, publicly broadcast.
[/slightly OT comment]

DG

Don't you remember the huge stink the industry made over VCRs when they
first came out? They were going to lead to the end of TV and
Hollywood!

They've been wanting to do this for a long time and now have both the
laws and the technology to do so.

I don't totally agree with it, but not only did I not vote for the
people that put this through, I don't even live in the same country
they do...

[slim] Re: Beginning of Song Gets Cut Off

2006-08-12 Thread Robert_W

Sean, just for the sake of discussion I too have a similar problem, but
ONLY on start up of the first song played after turning the player on.
SB3. The first 1/2 second or so of the song is cut off. All songs
played after that play just fine no matter how I play them.search,
browse, playlist etc. This also happens if Pandora is the first thing
to be played after the SB3 is turned on. I have thought about it being
my pre amp too, could be I guess. I have tried turning the pre amp on
and off while leaving the SB3 on and the problem does not occur so I
really think that it's the SB3.
And not that it's a huge problem, just a bit annoying. Over all I love
the device.

I have an Outlaw 990. SB3 is connected via coax playing all FLAC except
Pandora obviously. Everything over Gigabit Ethernet, NO wireless. And no
I haven't tried analog, doesn't bother me that much. Just FYI. Thanks.

I purchased total recorder - http://www.highcriteria.com/ - in order to
convert my vinyl record collection to Ogg. I have also recorded radio
streams using slimserver. You might give it a try!
