20% signal stregth is insufficient this is a wifi issue for your Boom

Yeah but they don't monitor every post here, but they do monitor every
bug report, the forum is mainly for us user to speak to each other.
So if you want this issue to be known to them , you fill in a bug
report.
So if you took the time to inform the 20 or so users actually reading
you post,
why not inform the people that actually can do something about it,
whats wrong with that ? all you have to do is to register and copy paste
your first post.

Re: [slim] Portable FLAC Players

2009-07-26 Thread RonM

I handle this situation by making use of dbPoweramp's dual rip function
-- every ripped CD goes to both a lossless version and a lossy version,
done at the time of the rip automatically. Very cool function.

For downloaded files, I keep them in a separate directory and convert
these separately.

[slim] Another flac2mp3 query

2009-07-26 Thread socistep

Hi All

Have got flac2mp3 working well on my server, scheduled to run daily.

On checking outputs I've noticed that each time it runs that the
following files are updated

Writing tags to "/storage/music/mp3/Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Take
Them On, On Your Own/00 Hidden Track.mp3"
Writing tags to "/storage/music/mp3/British Sea Power/Open Season/00
Hidden Track.mp3"
Writing tags to "/storage/music/mp3/Goldie Lookin Chain/Greatest
Hits/00 Hidden Track.mp3"

Anyone know why it would keep re-writing tags for these '00 - Hidden
Track' songs ?

Thanks
Ian

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-07-26 Thread timmorris

I have three players currently active:

SB3
SBR
Boom

I've increased the server priority to -21. As a test I've been running
random song mixes on all 3 players. SBR is connected to one access point
- strength 81. SB3 and Boom are connected to another access point signal
strengths 71 and 99 respectively.

Boom is the only player that I have a problem with. In less than 24
hours it looses connection "rebuffering failed" and shows less than 20%
signal strength in the information pane.

I've reinstalled SC and deleted settings and performed a factory reset
on the Boom.

Something is wrong.

Re: [slim] lossless internet radio streaming in FLAC!

2009-07-26 Thread bpa

A word of warning - the suggested 48000 solution will makew Flac assume
all streams from mplayer are 48kHz so that if you try to play a stream
with 44.1kHz you will get speed problems. A proper solution would be to
have mplayer send a WAV header so that sample rates are matched.

Re: [slim] lossless internet radio streaming in FLAC!

2009-07-26 Thread amcluesent

I was meaning the sample rate parameter to the flac command needs to be
matched to 48000, so in convert.conf:

Code:

  ogg flc * *
# R
[mplayer] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -cache 512 -af
volume=0,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=#PIPE# $FILE$ | [flac] -cs
--totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16
--sample-rate=48000 --compression-level-0 -

Restart Squeezcenter, then in the filetypes menu, I set the FLAC
handling of Ogg to be mplayer from the dropdown options and disabled the
others.

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-07-26 Thread jimwillsher

Just adding my 2p.

I had weird problems with my SB3 yesterday, with the music fading in
and out, and pausing for a second or two then resuming. The player is in
the other room and I could hear it but couldn't see the screen. Then it
dawned on myrebuffering. It confused me, since I've NEVER heard
rebuffering on any of my three players (all wireless), ever since
release 5.4.1, and didn't recognise the problem at first. The first time
I've ever experienced it is7.3.3.

I'm running SC 7.3.3 on Ubuntu 9.04 x64 (headless) on a Quad Core Q9450
with 8GB RAM, so I'm pretty sure it's not down to the processor speed.
My wireless signal strength (802.11g) is around 85%-90% too, with
nothing else on the WLAN (and no other houses within 500 metres) so it's
not the wifi either.

It's only happened for a period of 20 minutes or so yesterday, never
before and (touch wood) not since. But it's a bizarre coincidence that
others are reporting it with 7.3.3, and that's my first experience too.

[slim] SQCenter 7.3.3, synced players

2009-07-26 Thread ltb76

Hi,

I recently upgraded to SqueezeCenter v7.3.3 and have now noticed that
“sync” now seems to be broken.
When I sync 2 players they start out of sync, it's not like they
drift.

If I stop both players and start again, sometimes several times, I can
get them to play synched. It seems like the problem only is when
starting to play. If they start “in sync” they do not drift.

This occurs both with wired and wireless SB3s.

I’m running SQCenter on Debian 5.

Any ideas to fix this?

Cheers,

[slim] gapless FLAC/PCM no longer works on SB1

2009-07-26 Thread ephemere

I have an SB1 and an SB2, and I'm running 7.3.2. Ever since I got the
SB1 six years ago, I've had gapless playback of FLAC files. But
something changed recently, and I now get gaps between tracks on my SB1.
The SB2 works fine. I'm not sure which version of SqueezeCenter
introduced the problem, but it's been this way for a while. It's
possible there's some config setting I can change, but I don't see one.
Bitrate Limiting is set to No Limit (and in fact I don't even have LAME
installed), so SqueezeCenter should be transcoding FLAC to PCM, not MP3.
Yet, there is still a gap between tracks.

Is there a solution?

Sorry if this seems a silly question, but where's this flac parameter -
on the same line?

Is this line of code all I'm supposed to do to get the stream playable?
I'm only getting silence at the moment and a reported (in SC) bitrate of
128kb/s OGG. Do I have to disable some of the other options in

[slim] Squeezebox + Draytek router: No Internet radio

2009-07-26 Thread Peter
I've been without Internet radio for quite a while. Symptoms: Playing
stations worked for only about a minute, after that the music stopped
and a 'Connection timed out' error appeared. This happened with *every*
station. Playing local music was no problem at all. (confirmed with the
last stable server and firmware versions)

Found out the cause today. My SB3's cannot communicate reliably with my
Draytek Vigor 2900 router. When I switched the SB3's to manual IP
configuration and changed the gateway IP to my Linux server (with ip
forwarding enabled) instead of the router (which is the normal setup of
course) everything suddenly started working perfectly.

So when the packets travel over my server to the router to the internet
and back all is well. When they travel directly over the router to the
internet and back it bombs out.

All other devices I have work well with my router, so I'm guessing this
is a Squeezebox specific problem.

The workaround is acceptable for me (the server is always on), but
perhaps this helps someone.

Regards,
Peter
