Well they better move it. I'm looking at what may be a bricked boom and
am seriously thinking of researching the Sonos line which seems to have
gotten a bunch cheaper than I remember it being back when I bought into
Slimdevices.

Re: [slim] Dear Squeezebox, still love you

2012-05-23 Thread Clnanderson

Yeah, geez. Ever since my local radio NPR station decided to drop the
Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts back in maybe 2004 or 2005 and I found a
SB3 as the best available solution to stream the broadcast, I've been
responsible for my SB3 and two booms (would have bought another at least
if I had realized in times that Log. was dumping them a few years back.
. .sigh), and then within the extended family it's probably another 5
SB3's and 4 booms. Would probably pick up a radio or a touch, but the
silence from Log. and the gradual death of the product line is preparing
me to switch to Sonos if need be when I move to a new house (rather than
add a few more booms and touchs as I probably would if the line would
continue) and my family continually ask me about whether they can get
another boom.

Just don't get it.

[slim] Range Extenders Compatibility?

2008-11-01 Thread Clnanderson

I'm trying to add a Squeezeboom to my folks setup in an old condo. The
router/ap is at one end of the condo and give reliable wireless for the
back half. Walls are thick and I'd rather not run cat5 down the long
hallway. The circuits are multiple which I believe rules out the
powerline networking. So, I'm trying to gather information about range
extenders. Searching the forums gives some hints that people have had
trouble getting squeezeboxes to work with range extenders, but it's not
conclusive.

My folks have a d-link router but d-link no longer makes a range
extender that I can see. So I'm considering a setup with a

LINKSYS WRE54G Wireless-G Range Extender
and replacing the router with a LINKSYS WRT54GL (flash with tomato
firmware perhaps?)

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated, especially if you've
had trouble with repeaters and squeezebox/booms

I'm not sure about whether the circuits are on the same phase (or how to
check that, in fact), nor how one would go about bridging phases. But,
I'll have to do so more or better research, before I rule that out.

[slim] Hardware failure?

2007-05-31 Thread Clnanderson

I have a squeezebox 3 and it ran great for the last 15 months. Today
when I turned it on, something went wrong. I think it is a hardware
problem. The startup screen doesn't display correctly--it flashes for
about a 1/2 second on 1 second off, the pixels that form the letters
are about 1/3 lighted up 2/3's not. It's possible to make out what it
is saying sort of, but not follow through the menus. Then it seems to
fail to connect to the network though why isn't
clear because I can't read the display. (I just checked my router logs
and the sb connects and then disconnects for reason timeout, station
left.)

I did a factory reset and that has not changed the behavior. (I could
just read the words factory reset--so I'm sure it worked).

I'm guessing this is a hardware problem and seems to, at least, be a
failure in the display and more since it won't connect to the network.

Any suggestions?
