Re: [slim] Changed routers and now

2010-02-11 Thread TivoManiac

Okay incase anyone else gets this router and has this problem turn off
the SPI and you'll be set. What is SPI?

Stateful Packet Inspection is a mechanism that is designed to keep
track of all open sessions initiated from the trusted network (private
LAN) destined for the un-trusted network (WAN or Internet). These
connections are maintained in what is known as a state table until they
timeout or are properly ended. The Firewall uses this state table as a
dynamic rule-set to allow/deny incoming traffic from the WAN to reach
computers on the private LAN. If the incoming traffic matches certain
criteria of a currently open connection it will be allowed to pass the
Firewall. If the incoming traffic does not match any criteria of any
current connection in the state table or any pre-defined virtual
server/port mapping it will be denied and dropped.

Think of Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) as a request-response
mechanism. For every action you perform using your PC, you are sending a
“request” for that action to be carried through. Now in order for you to
complete your transaction, you would need to receive a “response”.

SPI is the process where the firewall keeps track of certain attributes
from all LAN initiated requests and so that when there is a return
response, the firewall automatically checks to see if the attributes of
the return response matches up with the initial request’s attributes. If
there is a successful match, the response is allowed access into the
network, otherwise, the response is denied access.

For example, when you send out an instant message to your friend, the
firewall logs your outgoing message as an initial request for a chat
session and waits for a response. Your friend receives your message and
sends you a reply, but before that message can pop up on your screen,
the firewall intercepts the message and agrees that the response data
matches your initial request. The instant message goes through. If your
friend were to send a message to you without you having initiated the
conversation or telling the firewall to allow incoming connections, the
firewall would disregard said message as there was no corresponding
entry in the state table or rule set.

Re: [slim] Changed routers and now

2010-02-11 Thread TivoManiac

Found a setting on this router for "NAT Endpoint Filtering" which was
set to "Address restricted" I changed it to "Endpoint Independent"
thinking that might fix the issue but nada.

It the router log file I can see what I believe to be the attempts from
mysqueezebox.com to send the Pandora stream but it appears the router is
blocking it even though I have the ports opened. This is really
frustrating as I like the router a lot except for this issue. Kinda
surprised no one else has been down this road.

Can you log in to mysqueezebox.com with your browser? You should be able
to go to your Favorites, open the Remote Control window etc.

Also, check firewall settings and be sure you are able to log in to
mysqueezebox.com

In theory this should not matter. I've taken my Boom and SB3 to
numerous other WiFi networks with varying security & encryption types
and settings, never had a problem.

If you have not tried already I'd suggest a complete network reboot:
- unplug router (leave unplugged)
- turn off computer (leave off)
- unplug all SB players (leave unplugged)
- turn off any/all devices on the network (leave off)

Now bring your network back up and in this order:
- plug router back in, wait for it to COMPLETELY reboot
- turn computer on, wait for it to COMPLETELY reboot
- Launch SC/SBS, wait till it COMPLETELY loads and is running
- plug SB players back in
- best to not power on other networked devices just yet before SB
players are functioning

Okay I opened up a couple TCP ports and the Boom is connecting to the
squeezebox.com server now but it still will not play from Pandora. It
comes back right away with an error saying I have skipped the maximum
number of songs for the hour but I haven't skipped anything.

I didn't have time to retry the duet this morning after setting the
router ports so that will be done tonight.

Yes I did reset both as I also went from WEP to WPA encryption so I had
to walk through the whole thing. I do have the boom seeing my computer
now but it still will not connect to the squeezebox.com server and I
can't get access to Pandora. The Duet has a blue light but it still
will not work for some reason. I'm guessing the new routers security is
tighter by default so I need to figure out what to change on it to relax
it a bit.

Re: [slim] Changed routers and now

Have you tried a factory reset? Perhaps something isn't being cleared
properly with the new network setup, more likely to happen if it has the
same name as the previous wireless network. Perhaps the gateway address
is different, but the players are trying to use the old one on the new
network.
