As a precaution you could use a USB2 port. You have to unzip the file to the USB device to let the BIOS find the file with the new version. $120 is a lot of money hopefully you can sell it after the upgrade. Grtz. FWIW, I stopped using gigabyte mobos years(decade?) ago as their attitude to Linux was unhelpful. I bought a Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3 mb and an Intel i5-7500 CPU which is listed as compatible with that mb. Unfortunately that CPU requires F20 version BIOS and the mb came with F3. It will not run at all without F20. I will need to buy an older CPU that will work with F3 which will allow the computer to power up. If there is a Linux program to update the BIOS then I can install Devuan and then update. Otherwise I will still have to buy the old CPU and find someone that has a bootable Windows HD useable on the mb and have them update the BIOS. Hello. I had a very stange behaviour of DeVuan ssytem. -- I had MBR 3 TB HDD that worked well on old system with DDR RAM, LiLo booted the system. Then i moved the HDD to a bit newer system, with DDR2 RAM on the board. There system did boot, work well. Then, after normal shutdown, when i turned it on again, system did not boot! I checked the HDD w/ bootable CD and found that all partitions table was removed -- the HDD was as if never partitioned! What on the DeVuan system could do such an evil?
