[Dovecot] Exim and Dovecot

2012-08-11 Thread Rafael Nathan
Hi,

I am installing Exim and Dovecot through yum on my Centos 5 x86_64 machine.

Exim is unable to find the virtual users.

Is there a full-fledged guide to get the two working.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Rafael

This is just a guess since I'm not too good at dovecot, but could it be
that you need to set at least auth_mechanisms = plain login your in
 dovecot config?

Yeah, that was it! You made my day!

Re: [Dovecot] [exim] Exim + Dovecot deliver overquota problems

It'd be much better, because I would allow me to mix overquota and
 no-overquota recipients.
But the problem in my case is that I am using some hashing to
distribute the users' mailboxes, dovecot can handle this easily
because it supports some interesting stuff
 (http://wiki.dovecot.org/Variables)

Exim have much more variables and functions
http://exim.org/exim-html-4.69/doc/html/spec_html/ch11.html#SECTexpvar, so if
you don't use any special dovecot variable data, than it shouldn't be a problem.

With a perl script I could also do that, I would like only if it's the
last resort (too much overhead I would think)

Parsing file and counting quota value - is trivial stuff. The main disadvantage
of this way is executing external aplication on every RCPT TO command. If
you'll decide to use perl consider using option perl_at_start to minimize
aplication starting time.

rejects every time but if I uncomment;auth_executable =
/usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-auth then thunderbird will ask me for a password but
does not agree with me on it.I have dovecot set up to use the unix usernames

How about including:
- complete dovecot configuration (dovecot -n)
- log file content from a failed auth session with TB
- test results from a telnet auth session:

Sorry, you should test an SMTP auth session ofcourse.
