[dspace-tech] Cannot delete bitstream or item

2021-04-16 Thread dba...@gmail.com
I have an item that is not being OCR'd or having it's thumbnail generated.
I thought there might be an issue with the PDF, so I tried to delete the
bitstream to re-add it. However, the page simply keeps loading after
clicking the button to delete.

So, I tried to delete the entire item, but it does the same thing. The
browser just keeps loading, and it never generates an error nor deletes the
item.

I checked the bitstream in the postgres database, and it shows it as

29453;4;"1f416d7fa2882a68c8d809780df8f43b";"MD5";"91570276739113098692915736298364931132";t;0;1;8958837

which notes that it is flagged deleted = TRUE, but the item and bitstream
are still accessible in my web interface.

It looks like this item is corrupt. Is there a way to tell what is corrupt
about it? If not, is there a way that I can delete the bitstream and/or
item?

Re: [dspace-tech] informal survey regarding bitstream limits and sizes

2021-04-16 Thread Alan Orth
Hi Bill,

We primarily host open access PDFs, PowerPoints, and documents in an
institutional/academic research setting. We limit uploads to 30MB in our
nginx frontend. Part of open access is ensuring that people on
low-bandwidth or bandwidth-limited connections can download files easily,
without incurring fees, on spotty connections, etc. If an editor reaches
out to me I can temporarily increase the limit. We have 90,000 items in our
repository and this has worked well for us.

Pragmatically we have avoided offering support for large uploads to our
users because it increases administrative burden for me (sysadmin) and for
our organization (server size, backups, architecture complexity, etc). If a
project has produced a video we have them upload it to Vimeo, YouTube, etc
and then we add a link in the metadata. For any large file type you can
think of—video, genome sequences, data dump, etc—there is a platform that
is better suited than DSpace where you can upload it.

Regards!

[dspace-tech] Import and Export-Collection specific metadata

2021-04-16 Thread Projects Arunendra
While batch uploading if somebody unintentionally *import*s metadata of one
type of collection into another collection, having separate metadata, can
Dspace prevent that?

Similarly, while *export*ing, how do I export collection with its own
metadata only and not other metadata fields that are not part of that
Collection?

I am using DSpace 5.10 but I guess the question will apply to recent
versions also.
