Re: [Dspace-tech] Build failed

2009-09-09 Thread Claudia Jürgen

Hi Moturi,

seems as if you ran the command from the wrong directory.

After having run mvn package you got:
[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-1.5.1-build.dir
run ant [target] from there.

Hope that helps

What is the state of OpenSearch for DSpace 1.6? Is is already

 Hello Mika,

 I have made a modification (copy) of the SimpleSearchServlet, and
 corresponding JSP, to have it return XML (not actual RSS, but that
 should be easy to adapt) instead of HTML.
 This is a small fix that should be easy to implement. Although I am
 not sure if it is sufficient for you.

 An example of this:

 http://gupea.ub.gu.se:8080/dspace/simple-search-snabbsok?query=helsinkirpp=50submit=Go

 We use this for a quick search function on our web pages:
 http://www.ub.gu.se/

 Also we generate various DSpace RSS feeds directly from postgres SQL
 queries on our web pages, but that is done outside of DSpace.

 I have not done anything with the RSS class in DSpace. There might be
 some cache issues etc that you would want to look at when implementing
 RSS (my solution simply returns straight XML instead of the web page).

 Please let me know if you want to have at look at the above.

    Hi,

    Has anyone tried/done the following on DSpace: modify the search code
    so, that it would return any given search as RSS feed? This shouldn't
    be too hard to implement, since DSpace already contains the
    functionality to provide RSS feeds from a set of items. What Im hoping
    to achieve, is to be able to create customized feeds to
    author/institutional webpages (or live bookmarks) with ease. This
    would actually allow a creation of virtual collections of any kind
    very easily.

    If this hasnt been done before, could someone throw in a few hints on
    where/how to start experiencing? On a general level, Im thinking of
    adding a RSS parameter to search query, which would throw the search
    results to the class/function that creates RSS feeds and returns them
    to the user. Maybe a parameter for a number of returned items could be
    used as well.

    I'd like to know where can I find:
    1) Class that runs/processes search and results
    2) Class that creates RSS feeds

    Thanks for any tips,
    Mika

I'm not aware of one. The main settings you need to get correct are

$package-setTitle($title);

Collection-based export is working as expected when using the -m
(migrate) flag in DSpace 1.5.2 with one exception.

/bin/export ItemExport --type=COLLECTION --id=collID --dest=dest_dir
--number=seq_num -m

This will correctly remove the handle file, as well as the following
metadata fields from dublin_core.xml:
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=accessioned/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=available/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=issued/dcvalue*
  dcvalue element=description qualifier=provenance/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=format qualifier=extent/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=format qualifier=mimetype/dcvalue
(*Date.issued is retained if the item has been published before.)

It also removes dc.identifier.uri in all cases. The dspace_migrate
script uses a regular expression to only remove identifier.uri fields
that start with http://hdl (retaining non-handle based identifier.uri
elements), while ItemExport.java is eliminating all identifier.uri fields.

[Dspace-tech] Changing DSpace time zone

2009-09-09 Thread Kurzenberger, Eric
Hello,

I'm running a DSpace 1.5.2 installation, and I need to change the default time
zone that Dspace is using from UTC to UTC -4 to timestamp submissions. We're
going to be using Dspace for time-sensitive submission of files, and having the
time in UTC is going to undoubtedly confuse some of the users reviewing the
submisssions. Anyone know of a way to do this? I poured through the
dspace.cfg file and checked the Wiki and manual, but couldn't come up with
anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Eric

Thanks again for the excellent help. The problem with my SWORD servicedocument

Also, thanks for the pointers on how to get started, particularly with a PHP

DSpace doesn't include OCR code.

The full-text extractor (which feeds the indexing) requires actual
coded-character text in the PDF to work with. If all you have is a
bag of bitmaps (such as you often get from scanning paper documents
into PDF) then they contain nothing useful to extract; you'll need to
OCR or otherwise recover the character data before ingesting the file
into DSpace.

Re: [Dspace-tech] small correction for dspace_migrate

2009-09-09 Thread Stuart Lewis
Hi John,

Thanks for spotting that. I've opened a JIRA issue for it to make sure
it gets addressed before 1.6 is released:

 Collection-based export is working as expected when using the -m
 (migrate) flag in DSpace 1.5.2 with one exception.

 /bin/export ItemExport --type=COLLECTION --id=collID --dest=dest_dir
 --number=seq_num -m

 This will correctly remove the handle file, as well as the following
 metadata fields from dublin_core.xml:
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=accessioned/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=available/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=date qualifier=issued/dcvalue*
  dcvalue element=description qualifier=provenance/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=format qualifier=extent/dcvalue
  dcvalue element=format qualifier=mimetype/dcvalue
 (*Date.issued is retained if the item has been published before.)

 It also removes dc.identifier.uri in all cases. The dspace_migrate
 script uses a regular expression to only remove identifier.uri fields
 that start with http://hdl (retaining non-handle based identifier.uri
 elements), while ItemExport.java is eliminating all identifier.uri
 fields.

 Line 474:
if ((!migrate) ||
(migrate  !(
 (dcv.element.equals(date)
 qualifier.equals(issued)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(date)
 qualifier.equals(accessioned)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(date)
 qualifier.equals(available)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(identifier)
 qualifier.equals(uri)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(description)
 qualifier.equals(provenance)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(format)
 qualifier.equals(extent)) ||
 (dcv.element.equals(format)
 qualifier.equals(mimetype)

out.write(utf8, 0, utf8.length);

 Hi John,

 I was transferring a few collections from a DSpace 1.5.2 development
 server to a production instance this morning and encountered a small
 issue with the dspace_migrate bash script.
 Since the item exporter in 1.6 has a migrate option (-m flag) this
 script might get removed, so I'm posting this simple fix just in
 case
 anyone else encounters the same problem.

 Thanks for reporting this problem. The -m 'migrate' flag was
 introduced in 1.5.2, so you could try running that instead. It would
 be good to know if it works for you to give us more confidence in
 removing the dspace_migrate script. We also have an open issue to
 make
 the -m 'migrate' flag more configurable
 (http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-287
 )

 I've noted the bug in the JIRA issue to remove the dspace_migrate
 script, so if we decide not to remove it, then we can make sure it
 gets fixed before we release 1.6.

 Thanks,
