Unfortunately, if the Internet is down, so would many of the packet
nodes... At least around here. Our connection to the cluster backbone
used to be via a chain of RF nodes in NNY... And it would be down for
months at a time during the summer months when lightening would take out
a node or two in the Adirondacks... It hasn't been worth maintaining for
years now...

For those that feel your TNC is a desk ornament... check with
your local Node Sysop... He may be able to use a spare TNC or
two. Many of the nodes put a considerable amount of time and
$$ to keep you connected!!
Of course it is also nice to have the TNC around for the time
when cable or DSL is down during that contest.
