It seems this number answer a SIP 407:
"407 Proxy Authentication Required

This code is similar to 401 (Unauthorized), but indicates that the
client MUST first authenticate itself with the proxy. SIP access
authentication is explained in Sections 26 and 22.3.

This status code can be used for applications where access to the
communication channel (for example, a telephony gateway) rather than
   the callee requires authentication."

I'm not sure what this exactly means in this situation...

Yannick

I'll open an ENH at the bugtracker, unless somebody has more time or a
sytem where Ekiga actually compiles ;-) (only 2 strings!)

They do work all right for me as well.

It would seem that not all 1800 numbers in the US are equal.
Other 1800 numbers I have tested (in particular, those I am interested
in) all fail with the same "Security check failed" message printed out
at the lower end of Ekiga's window. These are ordinary 1800 numbers
that work as expected when using ordinary phones. You might like to
test e.g. 1 800 4321359 (for Frontier Airlines.)

I just tested those numbers:
sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (codec GSM, Pizza Hut Telemarketing)
sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Colonial Bank
sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Society Of Former Special Agents Of Fbi

They work here.

Not all numbers I tried do work, depending if they are connected to the
network, or if I'm in the right area. But I get an error message (a
vocal message) most of the time.

I have compiled it in the past with avahi disabled - no problem.

Only the ability for agents to discover each other on the LAN using
zeroconf aka Apple Bonjour.

Someone else will have to answer regarding your linker error, however.
I know little enough about the Linux linker, and the Solaris linker
is completely out of my ken.

That is the way unix systems work : each program loads its libraries
from the LIBRARY PATH. You can modify it by setting the appropriate
LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable.

The Video4Linux plugin is correctly installed, but you have no plugin
for audio. Make sure the correct plugin for audio has been compiled. On
FreeBSD, it should be OSS. On OpenSolaris, it should be sunaudio.
