[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement
Good Evening, I started the Elecraft CW net on June 6th, 2002 to commemorate my uncle's action on that date in 1944. He started early, loading into a plane for a short flight across the Channel. Then jump out of a perfectly good aircraft, in the dark, while getting shot at. They were told to slow Panzer activity in their sector, with strict orders not to blow up any bridges. They improvised. Solar activities have been weaker this week. The flux index is just over 100. Twenty meters had less noise when I listened to it an hour ago. There were many signals up and down the band. I think it may work fairly well for us tomorrow. I worked on my vertical antenna this week during a lull between showers. I soldered more radials in place. The tests on 20 and 40 meters showed improvements on twenty meters but pretty much the same as previous experience on forty. Time to cut a new doublet and hang it as a V. It would be nice to have four or five choices for antennas memorized by the tuner. Please join us on (or near): 14050 kHz at 2200z Sunday (3 PM PDT Sunday) 7047 kHz at z Monday (5 PM PDT Sunday) 73, Kevin. KD5ONS - A female Black headed Grosbeak landed on a branch a few feet outside this window. She gave me time to look her up on the web. Obviously Grosbeak but not Rose Breasted, definitely speckled, yellow with a black head. Photo matched the patient bird so I got an all time new one. Strangely enough she may be the mate of the one I recorded last year. Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 reduces power as it gets warmer?
At high power the KPA1500 is the most efficient. At lower power it will generate the same internal heat or more. John KK9A Kevin Robertson KD2WCY FT8 is a weak signal mode, designed for low power. Given its high duty cycle, you are asking for trouble if you operate your power amplifier in FT8 mode using your KPA1500 at anywhere near high power. I burned out my final on my K2 at 15 watts on FT8. 73, Kevin Robertson KD2WCY __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3/0 AF gain control across a RemoteHams link
A buddy and I are working on setting up his k3/0 -> my K4 remote link using Remotehams. When he adjusts the AF gain on his K3/0 there is no change in the audio level at his end (the audio level varies here on the K4). The AF gain works fine when adjusted on the RcForb Remotehams client at his end. In addition it works fine k3/0 -> another K3 via RemoreRigs at a different location but not through the Remotehams link there either. Has anyone come across this and solved it? 73, Bill WE5P Comfortably Numb __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 reduces power as it gets warmer?
Hi Kevin, The K2 is only rated 100% duty cycle at 5 Watts and 50% duty cycle at 10 Watts. Even though it will put out 15 Watts it should only be run there on SSB and CW and then sparingly. It should not be run on digital modes above 10 Watts and really should not be run at more than 5 Watts on digital. I have a K2 for my QRP ops and never run it more than 7 or 8 Watts. 73, Mark, WB9CIF -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of Kevin Robertson via Elecraft Sent: Saturday, June 4, 2022 13:53 To: Rick NK7I Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 reduces power as it gets warmer? It isn't "designed for low power." I don't, nor will I have, a KPA1500, but I run my KAT500 at 400-500 W on FT8 without incident. Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 reduces power as it gets warmer?
It is a weak signal mode, not necessarily a low power mode. If a station you need for new country is -24 and is running 1500 watts then most likely he will not hear you at low power. You will need to run QRO. Use the power needed to make the contact. Re: [Elecraft] Have a K-2 SN 01049
Tim mentioned “A local here has a loaded K2/100 that he's been trying to sell for a while but has only received what he perceives as low offers” Bear in mind the K2 has been around for over 20 years, and was built from a kit by hams with variable degrees of soldering skills and had quite a few modifications since the early ones were produced. My K2 has given me good service, but I cannot remember the last time it was used, I built in around 2001. Even with its A to B mods, upgraded SSB filter crystals, ATU, 160m and DSP board, I wouldn’t expect it to fetch over $400. 73 Dave G4AON -- Sent from my iPhone SE __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
