[Elecraft] K1 40m/20m for sale

2019-08-07 Thread Jim Ragsdale
I have K1 s/n 3502 for sale. It has 40M and 20M on board and the KAT1
antenna tuner. From the pictures you can see that I have added a
homebrewed tilt stand that also doubles as a convenient carrying handle.
Included will be a Texas Instrument 12V, 2A power supply. $375 shipped
to CONUS. Paypal preferred, but will be flexible.

See pictures at http://w5la.net/images/K1.jpg and see it in action at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15XeF4mIScw=6s.

If interested, contact me via email to j...@w5la.net.

Re: [Elecraft] Dummy Load recommendation

I quit using 60 W light bulbs when I worked a station in New Jersey from
Memphis, Tennessee!

As a new ham (1958-9) my "dummy load" was a 60 watt light bulb. Even made a
few local contacts with it. Couldn’t afford anything else. A good pi-network could load
most anything, anyway .. :-)

But as a new young ham (1960's) I bought a cantenna (paint can filled with
mineral oil and resistor load immersed) for HF stuff and a Knight-Kit SWR
meter. But as I got older and had more cash I got better stuff.

Re: [Elecraft] Less Than Perfect Antennas [was Flumoxed]

2018-12-05 Thread Jim Ragsdale
What a great comment, Fred!  We have a guy in our area that tells
everyone (including newcomers to the hobby) that G5RV antennas don't
work. Funny how I've sure worked a lot of folks that was using one.

[Elecraft] D19 shorting out in K1

2018-03-12 Thread Jim Ragsdale
I've been wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have a K1
with the KAT1 ATU and am using an A/B switch to swap antennas. Three
times now when I swap antennas with the power on the K1, it shorts out
diode D19 in the final. I can solve the problem by always powering down
before the swap, but sometimes I forget to do that (has nothing do with
my age. HI).

Any thoughts?
