Question is, would it be different for a "simple" group buy? I wouldn't
like to be banned from the channel because I somehow brought new users
there. Even worse if all those guys start barking at me because they get

To many for sure, but this one is a stepping stone on the road to fully
open source machines. Then we'll need encoders, motors and spindles...

I saw it on the gitter.

I thought about a Kickstarter when I had my batch of 50 made. But then
realised that I didn't know quite enough to support the buyers.
(And, yes, I know I wrote most of the docs, that was just me documenting

I think that the situation is that the STMBL is the dream drive for many
retrofits, but the actual designers have all the drives they will ever need

So the incentive to make the next-stage drive is low. They probably feel

I even have proposed to crowdfund a batch to help finance the mythical next
version. Not even had an answer.

I have collected (hopefully) all needed infos but I haven't the knowledge
and skills to build the drives myself.

I see the day coming when I'll send money to China because in years I won't
have been able to get a handful of these. This makes me really sad.

M1024 code is Multi-turn absolute, HIPERFACE® protocol.
I'm not sure how to read them to LinuxCNC.

However, HIPERFACE combines RS485 multiturn information and 1VPP sin/cos
signal. The latter can be read.

Note that these are the "C" variant so have a less convenient encoder
than the B variant.

(The earlier B variant has quadrature + Hall sensors, the C uses an
absolute encoder)

That is interesting. I wonder if it is China's version of drop shipping but on
used items. Sellers list the items they never actually own and a larger
wholesaler is handling the logistics to the buyer. I know it is common place in
the US for sites like Ebay and Amazon.

Which is odd, as that same listing now says that they have 10 @ £525
and a different vendor name, with the _exact_ same photo has 5 at half

Like Andy, I've made mine complicated too. I haven't yet made a face plate
either. He has a cam lock chuck on his lathe to be able to move the chuck with
work held in it to the 4th axis.. I have a South Bend Heavy 10L with a screw
on chuck and 5C collet spindle.

I'm undecided whether I'm better to make a faceplate that can use the SB
chuck/faceplate or something else. As a result the indecision means nothing
has been made yet.

I posted photos of the 3D printed pattern on the 8th of August. Although Andy
has a spare casting the mount hole spacing doesn't match my mill and shipping
cast iron from the UK was scary.

It looks to have had a hard life, but there are others on there at 10x

These are a really useful device, as they integrate a servo, harmonic
