Cheap ones!

Seriously, I've had good luck with a couple of Thinkpad models. In fact, there
is a topica (www.topica.com) mailing list dedicated to installing Linux on
Thinkpads. Appropriately, the list is called "linux-thinkpad".

I installed Mandrake 7.1 on a Toshiba Satellite 1605
(cheap), works great.

Also seen it on those Dell Inspiron ?7500s.

I've had pretty good luck with my Toshiba.

In any case, go to the laptop page mentioned earlier here on the
list (or do a google search for 'linux laptop', or go to
http://www.inficad.com/~rustyc/bookmarks.html and go to
the linux section where I reference (possibly with broken
links, sorry) some laptop pages.

In other words - be CERTAIN that it supports linux FULLY -
read all the details!

I love my ThinkPad A21e. 15" LCD @ 1024x768, 512Mb/10Gb, added a Lucent Orinoco
wireless card. OSS supports the Intel soundcard and the speakers sound incredible. I
get around 2 hrs of batt life with hardcore work (lots of disk and constant music
streaming over the wireless LAN). It recharges in maybe 30 mins.

Running Mandrake 7.2 on an IBM thinkpad i series 1500 2621
and runs great. Mandrake detected all the hardware, and only thing I
had to do is make sure the ALSA sound driver was loaded. Run sndconfig
just after logging in as root, and completed some minor setting up in X
Windows, and thats all it took. The Laptop is running a Celeron 466 MHZ
cpu, with 128 MB ram.

I am using a Toshiba Tecra 8100; M7.2 works great. Had to
pull a string or two for X, modem (surprisingly) works OK,
sound does not - probably since I never had a good
enough reason to spend time to make it work...
