Its not clear if you have done this but I'd call that step one. What happens when you try to boot? Do you get an error message? If so, what is it? If Grub is loading, you may be able to boot with the previous kernel. If Grub is not loading, you can probably use the install disk in the rescue mode to re-install Grub. Ignore > you don't have any Linux partition, press return to get a shell. The system will reboot automatically when you exit from the shell. I was trying to think of how to safely recover the LVs, but I don't know enough to sugest a safe way to do it... I wish I could be of more help!
