That's odd -- it worked for me, in rhel-5. But thanks for the suggestion, I'll
add this in the next spin of the package, which is after I get a full review.

If you look at rawhide you'll see it's perfectly possible to have one of the
font subpackages named like the srpm (and in fact this is what the main gentium
package is going to do)

srpm: sil-gentium-basic-fonts
rpm: sil-gentium-basic-fonts
 sil-gentium-basic-fonts-common
 sil-gentium-basic-book-fonts
(or sil-gentium-book-basic-fonts if you insist, would make it harder for
reporters to find the right bugzilla component associated to the package))

I used the general name because there are families named 'basic' and
'book-basic' within this package. So changing the name in the suggested way
would make the subpackages' name 'sil-gentium-basic-basic-fonts' and
'sil-gentium-basic-book-basic-fonts'. If that is fine, I would change the name
as per the suggestion in Comment 19 and 20.

"the user experience must be provided only by free tools". goes with
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Overview "Fedora is all about freedom and rapid
innovation." it goes against fedoras goals of "Fedora will always be free for
anybody, anywhere, to use, modify and distribute."

not having iverilog in means that ovm is only available to a subset of people
who have access to the closed proprietary tools. We want you to get this in,
all we are asking is to provide a way for everyone to use the content. even if
for now its limited in functionality.

Our intention is not at all to keep this out.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it is in there but it might be another "feature" that
I'd have to break. Doesn't look like it is going to hurt anything.

I see no relation between "If the content enhances the OS user experience, then
the content is OK to be packaged in Fedora" and "the user experience must be
provided only by free tools".
Would iverilog be nice to have? Definitely yes. Should its presence at the same
time with OVM be mandatory ? Absolutely not. Users might be using EDA software
from other sources. Actually I bet that 99% percent of them are using
commercial tools and I also bet that in an enterprise environment they always
will.

In the company I work for we use several commercial EDA tools. Since July 2008
the number of engineers interacting with OVM increased from 2 to 25 and their
number will increase in the future [, depending on the projects that end / new
projects that start]. How would not the presence of OVM in a repository enhance
these users' experience ? As sysadmin I would definitely have preferred to do
"yum install ovm.el4" instead of "tar xzf ovm-2.0.tar.gz"

For what it's worth and completely unrelated, we have a very small team of
courageous people who use gtkwave from EPEL when the number of licenses for the
commercial tool is insufficient.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#Code_Vs_Content

"If the content enhances the OS user experience, then the content is OK to be
packaged in Fedora." that is why we said that we would like to have iverilog
or some other tool for using the content in at the same time. understanding
that the tools still have a way to go and are far from feature complete.

AFAICS this shouldn't block l2fprod-common but only tvbrowser or am I missing
something?

Anyway, even if this blocks l2fprod-common - we know upstream is willing to
change the license. Can we maybe continue with the review in the meantime (i.e.
get it ready to approve it as soon as the legal issue is fixed)?

[Bug 483108] Review Request: chordii - Print songbooks (lyrics + chords)

2009-01-29 Thread bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483108

--- Comment #1 from manuel wolfshant 2009-01-29
18:16:00 EDT ---
I suggest to remove the first paragraph of the description. The description tag
cannot refer to anything but the chordii package, hence "This is a description
of a utility called chordii." is redundant.
The starting phrase of the second paragraph should be modified accordingly, for
instance "The purpose of chordii is to provide guitar players with [...]"

Please examine if the build process can take advantage of compiling in parallel
on several processors (
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#Parallel_make ) If the
program doesn't build with it, please add a comment otherwise please use it.

It would also be a good idea to also add INSTALL="install -p" to the make line,
this should preserve the timestamps of the man pages.
Please also take a look at the Makefile, according to
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/getfile?taskID=1092213&name=build.log the
manpages are installed twice. It's not critical now but, if I am not mistaken,
patching the Makefile in order to remove the redundant lines (if this is the
case) would be a good idea.

Did you submit any other packages ? Or maybe you have performed some
pre-reviews ?

- Does the .def file really need to be bundled in this package? (IOW, do other
packages require this file?)
- The gtk-doc should be removed from this package (as was discussed at
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/fedora-mingw/2009-January/000357.html
)
- %defattr(-,root,root) needs to be changed to %defattr(-,root,root,-)

Other than that, no serious issues with this package

--- Comment #1 from Nicolas Mailhot 2009-01-29

1. probably better to use -n with %setup instead of using -c and playing mv
games

2. Please consider

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Shipping_fonts_in_Fedora_%28FAQ%29#Do_I_need_to_Provide_my_old_package_names.3F

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Shipping_fonts_in_Fedora_%28FAQ%29#What_if_the_new_naming_guidelines_require_me_to_rename_my_source_package.3F

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Shipping_fonts_in_Fedora_%28FAQ%29#Am_I_done_after_creating_a_new_fonts_.28sub.29package_or_renaming_an_existing_one.3F

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Shipping_fonts_in_Fedora_%28FAQ%29#The_fontconfig_stuff_the_font_guidelines_suggest_seems_complex._Can_I_skip_it.3F

However, despite the uglyness associated to 1., the package and upgrade path
works.
