If I do travel, I will drive my van and take all 7 of my babies with me. If I
mve across te country, I will get a big rv and keep them with me. Sorry, I
just do not trust anyone else to take good care of them like I do.
I am sorry about Jack, I am sure his owner thought he would be in good hands
and I am sure he feels very badly about it all.
Good to hear about Continental, will keep that info handy.

2011-11-07 Thread Peggy Riley
That's how we did it. Our first trip to the US was including 2 dogs on the
same airplane. I went back to the Netherlands to get everything prepared
and organized for the cats to go. I dropped them off at the airport in
Amsterdam, my husband picked them up in Atlanta (non-stop flight).
Everything went just fine!
I went later with 2 ferrets in tow as hand luggage.

We even flew my horse Jay over to the US. I wasn't gonna leave her behind.
My husband traveled with her and dropped her off in good hands until we
where ready to move. She went 6 months earlier then us.

This is how we handled sending our 2 dogs and 2 cats coming back from
Belgium: I went first, with the 2 cats in the hold; the next day, my
husband shipped the 2 dogs, and I went to pick them up. The next day, my
husband flew out...and I picked him up. It was tensions all the way.and I
wasn't even aware of all the horrible things that can and do happen!

The airlines just keep shooting themselves in the foot & animals suffer! If
only they would realize that there is this HUGE market out there for travelers
who want to travel with their pet. Why not take a couple of flights a week on
major routes & have a couple of planes where animals of all sizes can be kept
in cabin in crates. I do, however, have to put a plug in for Continental—while
I’m sure they’re not perfect, I’ve worked with a couple of shelters and we used
them many times to transport animals to their adopters many miles away. We’ve
never had a problem…
