[Finale] Using plugins with parts

2006-08-14 Thread Paul Copeland

G’day everyone.

I have just installed Finale 2007.

I have Windows XP Home edition.

When I create parts and then go to plugins for a part, none
of the plugins are highlighted.

How can I get the plugins to work with parts?

Many thanks for your help.

[Finale] OT: Help. Advice on possibly copyright image for music book.

2006-07-25 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I realise that this is off topic, but I also
realise that there are probably experts here who can help :)Thank
you.

I am about to publish a book of my guitar
music.

My father inlaw painted the image for the cover and
back page.

It is a copy of Picasso's, 'the guitarist'. I do
not know the actual name.

Is it legal to have this copy of the painting on
the front cover?

I hope some kind soul out there can
help.

[Finale] Finale 2006 WIndows unable to reinstall

2005-07-29 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I have Windows XP home edition running with an
Athlon 3000. The soundcard that I have is a DMX 6Fire 24/96

I have run Finale 2006 for one day.

Earlier this morning I tried to run it but got an
error message suggesting that Finale 2006 be reinstalled.

I reinstalled it, but still got the
error.

I then deinstalled everything and reinstalled from
scratch, but still get the same error message

No matter what I do, I cannot reinstall Finale 2006
and get it running.

I use Norton's Utilities and keep the system in
good condition, so obviously I am quite frustrated.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you.

[Finale] Problem installing MusicXML.dll with Finale 2006 Windows

2005-07-28 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I have just received Finale 2006 for
Windows.

I installed the program and have run it, trying to
export a file as MusicXML

When I tried to export the file I got the following
message

"Files cannot be imported or exported through
MusicXML because the necessary file "MusicXML.dll" could not be found in the
Component Files directory. You must reinstall the
missing file from your Finale CD to use this feature."

I ran the 'custom install', but could not find any
MusicXML.dll anywhere to install.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Please help. Many thanks.

[Finale] Dragon Naturally Speaking. One more question please.

2005-06-08 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

At the moment I have a very old analogue microphone. When I use it I get a
terrible hiss coming from the loud speakers, and have to turn the volume
off.

Is there a good USB microphone that cuts out the hiss of the speakers,
without me having to turn the volume down?

Thank you.

Paul Copeland.

[Finale] Dragon Naturally Speaking microphone with Finale/midi and USB

2005-06-08 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I have purchased Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred edition and now need to
purchase a microphone.

My understanding is that there are two types of microphone = a USB one or an
analogue one.

I have been told that a USB one can drain the CPU a bit.

The system that I have is an

Athlon 300 with 1.5 gigs of ram and Windows XP Home edition. I have a good
soundcard DMX 6Fire 24/196

Questions.

1. If I purchased a USB microphone, would there be much drain on the CPU.

2. Dummies question! Can I use either the USB or analogue microphone
together with Finale at the same time?

3. Are there any compatability issues that I should be aware of?

4. What type of microphones would you suggest?

5. Is a USB microphone better than an analogue one?

6. Have many of you used Dragon Naturally Speaking with Finale?

Many thanks for your help.

Paul Copeland.

[Finale] OT: I want to pay a GS3 person in Australia for wav files.

2005-01-29 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I hope I may be excused by posting a slightly off
topic message here.

I have posted at the GS3 forum but without any
success, so am trying here.

There are some folk here using Finale who have
Tascam's GS3.

I quite urgently need to employ someone from
Australia, who has GS3, to create some Wav files from my midi
files.

If you are from Australia and have GS3, and want to
earn extra income, please contact me. Thank you.

[Finale] Another copyright question.

2004-10-02 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

This is slightly off topic, however.

What is the copyright situation with etchings and
drawings that are over 80 years old.

I am thinking of such pictures as the J.S. Bach
ones that appear in so many editions.

Is it permissible to scan the cover of a book and
make some changes to the image, and then use it in your own
publication?

If this is not allowable, where can someone get
images of early painting, etching etc, of the great composers?

Thank you for your help.

[Finale] Slightly OT: Is Bartok's piano music now in the Public Domain.

2004-09-15 Thread Paul Copeland

Hello.

I notice with some interest that Cdsheetmusic.com
have released a CD (sheet music), containing many of the Bartok piano
pieces.

Does this mean that the Bartok piano music is now
in the public domain?

Thank you for your assistance.

[Finale] Regarding the soundfont. I was really looking . . . .

2004-06-14 Thread Paul Copeland
Hello again.

Thank you for the link David.

I know that there are many sound fonts out there, but would be grateful if
someone could tell me of a soundfont that they use with Finale for the PC.

I used one some time back and it didn't work at all.

If anyone uses another sound font, please let me know. Many thanks.

Well, you could do a web-search on "sound font" and see what turns up.

http://www.personalcopy.com/home.htm is one site that has soundfonts
for free.
