AW: [firebird-support] Firebird 2.5 under Windows 8 64bit

2014-02-21 Thread Dirk Schiffler
Hello,

I will check what Dmitry has suggested.

Btw, the fb server is installed in the \program files (x86) folder and run as
a service and it's a local machine, not a server, so the application is also
run on this machine.

Greetings

Betreff: Re: [firebird-support] Firebird 2.5 under Windows 8 64bit

Hello Dirk,

I have a customer where Firebird 2.5.2 (32bit) is running under
 Windows
 8 64bit.

The following errors are repeatedly found in the firebird.log

 BARBAR (Server) Wed Feb 19 14:22:54 2014

Error in isc_attach_database() API call when working
 with security database

  operating system directive CreateFile failed

  Access denied

 BARBAR (Server) Wed Feb 19 14:37:42 2014

  INET/inet_error: read errno = 10054

What causes these errors, especially the first?

Well, I don't have Windows 8 running, but it sounds a bit like a permission
issue, e.g. having Firebird installed in the program files folder and running
Firebird under a user with restricted privileges ...

Is Firebird running as a Windows service or as an application?

Other than that, what Dmitry has suggested.

[firebird-support] Where I put firebird.msg on PC with two client?

2014-02-21 Thread Luigi Siciliano
Hallo,
I have a PC with two clients:
- fbclient21.dll (I use ZeosLib + Delphi) for version 2.1 in windows\system
- fbclient.dll for version 2.5 in windows\system

Both clients connect to the server version 2.5 and I cannot change this
unless I update the application that uses fbclient21.dll.

If I put firebird.msg in Windows\system I create a conflict by different
versions of clients (2.1 + 2.5).

There is a way to put firebird.msg for 2.1 version in a directory that
not conflict with the one for version 2.5?

Thanks.

How do you get the connected users?

I did evaluate isc_database_info to list connected users.

RES: [firebird-support] For those who think they have performance problems

2014-02-21 Thread Fabiano - Desenvolvimento SCI
I belive!
We use 20011.

When we raised to 20011 performance is much better and memory consume is a
little bit more.

I think FB developers must increase a lot the default value, specially with
upcoming FB 2.5.3

Nope. But you better should not put non-system files into Windows system
folder

There is a way to put firebird.msg for 2.1 version in a directory that

Choose any folder you like, put firebird.msg there and set environment
variable
FIREBIRD_MSG pointing to this folder. You should set it before you'll load
fbclient.dll.
But, again, you have no reason to do it.

The Firebird install kits are not Windows 7+ (Windows 2008?/2012+) complaint,
they install components into incorrect path which are now access restricted.

The only way to install Firebird on such platforms is to install into a root
based path (ie. c:\Firebird\)
