I'm planning a horse vacation for a bunch of ladies that train at my barn.
I rented a house that sleeps 10+ in Ocean Shores, Washington - it also has a
swimming pool and a hot tub and is on the ocean. I've reserved horse
boarding space for 10 horses at the local stable that is also ocean side and
about 3 miles north. This will be for mid August when our chances of having
sunshine are best there. It won't be an all fjord trip but at least two
fjordies and maybe 3. One non horse friend is going who is a gourmet cook
and is cooking breakfast and dinner for us. Its about a five hour drive
away. We're just doing 3 nights, 4 days so it won't be a huge planning
burden as we can buy groceries locally there and just have to take our horse
food. This grew out of a casual conversation with another horse woman at a
gas station last August who'd just returned from camping down on the WA
coast with her daughter and a couple of her daughter's friends. We weren't
interested in camping. Being ladies of a certain age, we wanted to keep our
champagne chilled properly and keep the sand out of our strawberries.
Planning for it at this lousy time of the year has kept our spirits up.

Our other ladies horse vacation is competing again in the Adult Team
Dressage Competition the weekend of July 22 at Whidbey Equestrian Center
(www.ridewec.com) on Whidbey Island - also here in Washington. We took 9
horses and 10 ladies last year and it also turned into a horse vacation. It
gave green horses an away show experience before judges and offered intro
all the way to musical freestyle. The team spirit and costumes were over
the top, champagne was the order of the day for lunch, and our horses all
gained immensely in experiencewe had a load of fun. We expect to take
at least two fjords again this year - maybe three. The WEC is an easy
trailer haul for most of Western Washington - it would be great to see some
other fjords there.

All of these are good for novice through advanced - our teams last year
included riding intro through first level - and very new riders through
professional and we all had great fun. It won't cost very much, we get to
ride our own horses, it only takes a long weekend but we enjoy the planning
as well as the execution.

H. I still need to find something for June! Yours in fjord fun,
Teressa in Ferndale, Washington

Hi again!
This summer is filling up with plans pretty fast already - including the
crowning event...the NFHR 25th Anniversary Show/Evaluation Celebration in
Winona in October.
Still, a horse holiday with a bunch of Fjords, Fjordwomen and no real
responsibility (no showing or training) does sound great doesn't it? Sigh.
Maybe next year.
