Thanks Vivian for the info on Europe. We will check out the web as you
suggested. And once again congrats on the fine job at Fairhill. We
enjoyed the show and watching you compete. Hope to have our pictures soon.

Lori,
Yes there are people who wear helmets while doing dressage and cones at CDE's.
Boots Wright used to decorate a velvet hunt cap with red ribbon and tulle
veil. It was definitely the most elegant example of adapting the hard hat for
competition. At Walnut Hill there were even a pair of ladies who wore flak
jackets(normally used in eventing) on the cross country marathon as well as
hard hats. Generally speaking people do wear helmets on the marathon, although
most of the upper level guys( as in the males of the species) don't and
never will. It is unlikely that you'll see a trend especially in Pleasure
Driving towards wearing hard hats as the hat is considered an important part
of the turn-out, especially for women.
This to the fellow who inquired about driving events in Europe. If you go to
the ADS homepage, you can find the link on the NFHR homepage, you might beable
to find a European Link or e-mail them for info. Seems to me there was one I
used to check the scores at Ebbs Austria this summer. There is a CDE almost
every weekend somewhere in Europe. When Larry Poulin was over in Germany
looking for horses he said he saw alot of Fjords competing at CDE
competitions. Mostly pairs and fours. In 2000 you can go to Gladstone NJ and
see the World Singles Championship where drivers from all over the world will
be representing their countries. No Fjords, but some great driving. Good luck
and have fun over there.
