Re: Browser access to Foxboro graphics.

2000-03-12 Thread Stephen Murray

Hi Frits,

I set up an Apache server on an AW51B a few years ago to get information
out to users that didn't have (or didn't want) Exceed. I set up a simple
script to "omget" about a hundred key values and write them to a text file.
I then read the file with a perl script and generate an html document. This
is quick and easy, and I update the html document every two minutes. I
include a command in the html to have the browser request a new page every
minute, so users are pretty much kept up to date. Some users keep their
browser open to this page all day long. The only cost was my labor (& I
work cheap!) because Apache is free & nobody needs Exceed or DM licenses to
look at the plant. One of these days I might look into two way
communication for control, but that is not required by most users because
they only want to see what their operators are up to.

I kept the web page as sparse as possible - no graphics & only a few
tables of information. This kept the size down to a minimum, and there is
no perceptible load on the system.

Browser access to Foxboro graphics.

2000-03-12 Thread Schouten, Frits JF

Hi all,

I've just recently put a web server (Apache) on one of my WPs to have very
easy access to reports and the like. This is particularly useful for the
maintenance group. They don't have to log in any more to get various status
reports out of the system about the mechanics of the Casting machine. It's
all there, available on their browser. In fact, I use in now a lot myself.
All I want to know is pre-cooked (cgi scripts) and up to date :-)

What I want to know is if anyone in our group have done some work to get DM
or FoxView style graphics available with a browser, perhaps using Java (my
weak point at the mo) .That would be the topping on the cake.

Cheers,

Frits Schouten.

Just to give you a bit of a confidence boost, I've done just that on our AP.
I have now LP13 which is a LaserJet 4Si in my office far away from the control
system.
The printer is also added to the printer list on the WP's and can be set as
the default printer.
Because the printer is PS I can do screen dumps to the office printer and that
all from my
office PC running a DM under GoGlobal (this is very fast btw).
