Re: Garbage characters in FM9
Mike, Is the problem limited to Minion Pro font? By any chance, have you edited your maker.ini file lately and if so, did you open it in anything other than Notepad? I learned through frustrating experience that editing maker.ini in say, WordPad, can cause garbage characters to start appearing in place of certain letters. For example, adding text in a Body para that uses Adobe Minion Pro, I type o and get op; I type s and get so. The Backspace key deletes the following character instead of the previous one, and the left-arrow key moves right. _ The New Busy is not the old busy. The icons and text seem to fade into the screen. The document is in full living color, but the background (toolbar, pods, menu bar, status bar, etc.) are all in dull, drab, depressing gray. I'd like to change it to normal windows configuration. But how to do that is a mystery to me. Check out Klaus Daube's Enhanced Toolbar for FM9 (http://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker55.html). It's free, but requires the $25 MicroType ToolbarPlus Express (http://www.microtype.com/ToolbarPlus.html), which I highly recommend. I'm still using FM7.2 for production work and haven't had a chance to try Klaus's Enhanced Toolbar for FM9, but it looks like it will help -- at least, it restores colors to the icons, which strikes me as a big improvement. Changing font when translating to Japanese
I use MS' Meiryo font. It is based on Verdana. This way, we do not have to change the font and can use conditional text in English and Japanese when we produce WebHelp. Someone mentioned universal Verdana. Please post a link to this. Charles
