Re: Applying Paragraph Tags with F9 Not Working in Frame 10

2011-11-17 Thread Shelly Schneider
I find that F8, F9, and Ctrl+4 (setting conditions) work in Frame 9 and
Frame 10. They're just a bit creaky in the morning and need to be reminded
what they're about (like me). The first time I use F8 after opening Frame,
the usual selection box on the bottom frame of the window doesn't exactly
appear. Instead, it displays something like "Not Applicable" with a down
arrow to its right. (Sorry, I can't be more exact, but I can't close and
restart Frame right now so I'm going from memory.) Click there, and the
familiar selection box for char tags should appear. Apply one and voila,
Bob's yer uncle! Now you're set for the reminder of your Frame session. This
must be done once for each of F8, F9, and Ctrl 4.

Of course, there's always Jeremy's solution.

HTH!

Shelly Schneider

Every woman should marry an archaeologist because she grows increasingly
attractive to him as she grows increasingly to resemble a ruin.
 Agatha Christie

Having just upgraded to FrameMaker 10 from Frame 8 -- I now find that I can
no longer consistently apply tagging using the F8 (Character catalog) and

F9 (Paragraph Catalog). Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Is there a workaround of some sort to get these function keys to reliably
work?

Linda

Thanks Tim,

A few times I figured out that if I dropped the drop down paragraph list
off the menu bar, then it seemed to work all day, if every time it
stopped working I did that. My frustration day happened when I couldn't
get the bottom window to even show where the Character or paragraph tag
appeared and my above workaround wasn't working.

I started out in old Word Perfect without a mouse. This feature not
working is extremely upsetting as I am constantly key coding the
formatting with resulting bad stuff in my document. Fortunately, Frame 8
is still living happily on my machine, coexisting with Frame 10, so I
may go back to it. There are some improvements I have liked in Frame 10,
but the lack of the key codes for formatting is a show stopper in my book.

Heh, that almost ranks with my "immobile panels" phenomenon. In this
phenomenon, you can drag the Structure View or the Element Catalog *once*.
After they, they won't move again until you click the appropriate menu option
to "open" them again - even though they are still open.

Wouldn't it be nice if Adobe had a QA department? But then, they'd have to pay
QA engineers and would cut off a revenue stream from optimistic upgraders who
think that the bugs they report will be fixed in the next version!

Hi,

Many home multi-function printers/fax/scanners ship with OCR software. My HP
LaserJet had a disk with ReadIRIS OCR software that I've used to open image
files and convert to text. It worked fairly well on an old version (9) several
years ago, I haven't tried the newest version (12) yet. So you might already
have OCR software installed or on a disk nearby.

Thanks,

Set the cross-ref format for related links

2011-11-17 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel - idtp
What determines the format of the cross reference in the related link, as
generated when saving a DITAmap to Composite FM document?

In my EDD I have defined the format of the fm-linktext to be in all contexts

'Use cross-reference format: Paranum_and_Paratext_on_Page'

But the document still uses 'DITA Default Format'.

Yes and no. When they don't work, you always get them working again by
clicking the dimmed format drop-down menu on the "lower toolbar" of the
workspace.

It's not a 100% satisfactory solution as it breaks the workflow of only
working with the keyboard, but it's good enough for me.
