Re: [Frameworks] Kodak black leader discontinued (remaining options)

2014-05-30 Thread Ed Inman
If the idea is to be opaque wouldn't virtually any undeveloped Super 8, 16mm or 35mm film right out of the box substitute as black leader?  You could also take black & white film, expose it to light, and develop it to a solid black negative. I'm not sure how the cost of these options would compare to the discontinued leader, but in relatively short lengths the cost shouldn't likely be prohibitive. --Ed

Re: [Frameworks] Kodak black leader discontinued (remaining options)

2014-05-30 Thread 40 Frames
Some of you may have been following the black leader discussion on AMIA-L,
but if not...

Urbanski does carry black leader for film prints, and Urbanski seems to
have a lot in stock.

Janice at Cinema Arts can supply black leader for cutting camera negative
to print.

Reto Kromer in Switzerland has a supply of black leaders (camera neg,
prints), and has also indicated
that ORWO will/may do special runs of black leader, though I don't know the
details, you'll have to contact
ORWO NA (Brooklyn) or ORWO (Germany) directly for more details.

There may be other options, so if you know of them, post to FW and/or
AMIA-L.

Thanks for this information. I am finishing up several b/w films (probably
my last b/w, just too impossible to work with anymore). I guess we will
have to settle for watching colorized films thru rose colored glasses.

According to a british neg cutter on the cinematography forum, ORWO hs
also stopped production of their black leader.

One suggestion to conserve stock for neg cutting was to use only a foot of
real black leader on each end, slug in between, giving the lab enough time
to close the lamp for that section.

[Frameworks] Kodak black leader discontinued

2014-04-24 Thread 40 Frames
I suppose this is old news by now, but discontinued in March...

http://motion.kodak.com/motion/uploadedFiles/PCN030214_Q.pdf

6-mil Kodak Opaque Black Acetate Leaders... in all formats.

I am aware that the magnetic film Kodak carries is made by Pyral, however I
am surprised to see 16mm magnetic film
stay in the catalogue longer than all formats of black leader.

I haven't looked around much yet, but I suppose ORWO still carries black
leader... who else?
