ixgbe ALTQ support on 9.1-RELEASE

2012-12-27 Thread Mike Hix
Should ixgbe 2.4.8 (supplied with 9.1-RELEASE) support ALTQ?

My card:
ix0@pci0:3:0:0: class=0x02 card=0xa12c8086 chip=0x150b8086
rev=0x01 hdr=0x00
vendor = 'Intel Corporation'
device = '82598EB 10-Gigabit AT2 Server Adapter'
class  = network
subclass   = ethernet

I've successfully built a kernel with altq suppport. altq works with
other drivers on this system.

However when attempting to load a pf rule set that includes queueing for
this NIC, it fails with the following message:

pfctl: ix0: driver does not support altq

altq(4) lists ixgbe under the SUPPORTED DEVICES secction. Is there
some alternative to altq, or is there some other knob/sysctl/step I'm
missing?

5.4-RELEASE: ALTQ support in bge driver?

2005-08-04 Thread Matt Taylor
I have recently installed FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE i386 on a box that uses a
Supermicro P8SCT motherboard containing two Broadcom 5721 Gigabit Ethernet
controllers.

These are working fine and are recognized on boot, but when I tried to
configure pf to utilize ALTQ I received the following message:

pfctl: bge0: driver does not support altq

I understand the bfe driver has ALTQ support since 5.3 - is there a patch
from CURRENT I can use? Anyone know what the status of ALTQ is for the bge
driver?

Cheers,
Matt.

try to add these lines to your kernel config,
and recompile after having made that particular
addition ...
# ALTQ
options ALTQ
options ALTQ_CBQ# Class Bases Queueing
options ALTQ_RED# Random Early Drop
options ALTQ_RIO# RED In/Out
options ALTQ_HFSC # Hierarchical Packet Scheduler
options ALTQ_CDNR   # Traffic conditioner
options ALTQ_PRIQ   # Prioirity Queueing
options ALTQ_NOPCC

ALTQ is a kernel option. Add the line below to your kernel
configuration file and rebuild/install your kernel.

options ALTQ

If you need assistance in customizing the kernel, see Chapter 8 of the
FreeBSD Handbook at:

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/kernelconfig.html

Good luck,

ALTQ support in vr(4)?

2004-11-28 Thread Olof Samuelsson
Hello!

altq(4) says:
SUPPORTED DEVICES
 The driver modifications described in altq(9) and required to use
 a certain network card with ALTQ have been applied to the
 following hardware drivers an(4), ath(4), awi(4), bfe(4), dc(4),
 em(4), fxp(4), hme(4), lnc(4), wi(4), de(4), rl(4), sis(4), vr(4)
 !
 and xl(4).

Whereas http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.3R/relnotes-i386.html says:

The ALTQ framework has been imported from a KAME snapshot as of 7 June
2004. This import breaks ABI compatibility of struct ifnet and
requires all network drives to be recompiled. Additionally, some
of the networking drivers have been modified to support the ALTQ
framework. Updated drivers are bfe(4), em(4), fxp(4), em(4),
lnc(4), tun(4), de(4), rl(4), sis(4), and xl(4).

Which list is correct? What should I look for in the driver source?

Btw, em(4) is mentioned twice in the release notes ... lnc(4)?

BR,
Olof
