Well. I don't think that it contains everything.
Do `kldstat -v` to get informations on modules built into kernel and modules
loaded seperately.
You can mark code pieces you want to have in kernel by writing a KERNCONF
file. Details can be taken from handbook[1]. You may find other step-by-step
instructions in forum[2] and on several blogs. I saw some posts of people
sharing their minimal kernel configuration file. It's interesting for people
using laptops and wanting to save as much power as possible, too.

You can try to omit Bluetooth entirely by defining the symbol
WITHOUT_BLUETOOTH=yes in /etc/src.conf and rebuilding your
system (kernel and world). See "man src.conf" for details.

Bluetooth DUN tun0 IP setting

2011-02-16 Thread Open Slate Project
Freebsd 8.0-RELEASE-p2.
Fujitsu Lifebook T1010.
T-Mobile myTouch 3G slide.
Android 2.1.
PDA Net tether app.

I get to where I can run rfcomm -a ... and PDA Net on phone responds that it is
running, shows byte count, but a few seconds my console displays error.

tun0: Error: ipcp_InterfaceUp: unable to set ip address.

The tun0 appears in ifconfig /all but with no tcp/ip settings.

In Windows 7 the tunnel interface gets 192.168.9.2, work gateway and dhcp at
9.1.

I suspect /etc/ppp/ppp.conf network settings, on the 10.10.0 network.

Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card

2008-07-25 Thread Harrison King
I am using a Dell Latitude D520 with the GENERIC kernel on FreeBSD 7.0.I am not
able to fully utilize all of the devices available on this model. However, the
most concerning issue is the Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card. I am
not able to find the device or the device name on the boot log or on any forums
on the web. Background information: This internel device is a combination Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth and is fully customizable for one interface or the other. It’s
built into each Dell Latitude D520 by default without any installation
required. I suspect if I add the device name to a custom kernel and rebuild, it
will recognize it. Any help is deeply appreciated.Sincerely,Harrison
King.Resident Design.

Bluetooth headset - paired...now what?

2008-06-24 Thread Norberto Meijome

hi :)

11:05:18 EST 2008 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/AYIIN i386

I have my headset . It is a Philips SHB6100 ,as reported by :

# hccontrol -n ubt0hci remote_name_request betos_headset

Name: Philips SHB6100

It is paired :
# hccontrol -n ubt0hci read_connection_list

as seen above, I am currently paired with the nokey option.

and its features are :

now... how do I use it?! I want to use it to listen to music and, ideally, for
skype calls too.

my laptop's bluetooth chipset info:

Unable to Pair a BlueTooth Headset to a USB BlueTooth dongle

2008-04-21 Thread lmclouth

Hello.

I'm having trouble getting a BlueTooth headset paired to FreeBSD. I
believe that I've followed the handbook. My headset is a BlueAnt Z9,
and when I attempt to pair, I do not get any response out of hsecd.

Some info about my machine
TOGOTU# uname -a
FreeBSD TOGOTU 6.3-STABLE FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE #0: Fri Apr 18 21:18:49
CDT 2008 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/TOGOTU amd64

Here is the process I used:
1. This Friday I upgraded my kernel to 6.3 Release.

2. Today I finished rebuilding all my ports.

3. kldload ng_ubt whose output was
kldload: Unsupported file type
I'm not so worried about this error as this report says its a minor
issue for amd64

http://www.jp.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=amd64/117186

4. I plugged in my USB dongle, whose output was
ubt0: vendor 0x0a12 product 0x0001, rev 2.00/31.64, addr 4
ubt0: vendor 0x0a12 product 0x0001, rev 2.00/31.64, addr 4

kldload: Unsupported file type
kldload: Unsupported file type
kldload: Unsupported file type

still not worried as a kldstat shows lots of other BlueTooth klds
getting loaded.

5. I copied over /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth
to /etc/rc.bluetooth

6. I then started the BlueTooth script
TOGOTU# /etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0
BD_ADDR: 00:1b:41:00:33:bc

Max. ACL packet size: 310 bytes
Number of ACL packets: 10Max. SCO packet size: 64 bytes
Number of SCO packets: 8

7. To check things out I put my headset into discoverable mode and ran
TOGOTU# hccontrol -n ubt0hci inquiry
Inquiry result, num_responses=1
Inquiry result #0
BD_ADDR: 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b
Page Scan Rep. Mode: 0x1
Page Scan Period Mode: 0x2
Page Scan Mode: 00
Class: 20:04:04
Clock offset: 0x6c23Inquiry complete. Status: No error [00]

8. I checked the name of the device
TOGOTU# hccontrol -n ubt0hci remote_name_request 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b
BD_ADDR: 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b
Name: BlueAnt Z9 v3.3

9. I don't believe I'm going to do any point-to-multipoint scenarios
so I skipped the next few example in the Handbook.

10. I was able to successfully ping the device
TOGOTU# l2ping -a 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b
4 bytes from 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b seq_no=1633905441 time=992.342 ms
result=0

4 bytes from 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b seq_no=1633905441 time=26.324 ms result=0
4 bytes from 00:1c:d8:02:92:5b seq_no=1633905441 time=28.310 ms result=0

11. Now to pairing. Since I'm pairing a headset with a fixed pin and
I'm initiating pairing from the FreeBSD machine (I can't initiate
from the headset), the handlbook does not cover this scenario at
all. So I searched around and found this article

http://www.oook.cz/bsd/bluetooth.html
Which says to initiate pair with a pair of setup commands
TOGOTU# hccontrol -n ubt0hci write_authentication_enable 1
TOGOTU# hccontrol -n ubt0hci read_authentication_enable
Authentication Enable: Enabled [1]

12. I set up the hsecd.conf file with the entry
device {
bdaddr  00:1c:d8:02:92:5b;
name"BlueAnt Z9 v3.3";
key nokey;
pin "";
}

That pin code if from my headset manual.

13 and lastly the command
TOGOTU# hcsecd -d
hcsecd[1187]: Restored link key for the entry, remote bdaddr
00:11:22:33:44:55, name 'Dummy'

and the command doesn't exit.

14. Which isn't so good, so I further edited out all of hcsedc.conf
and only left in the entry for the headset I want to pair. And I got
this.

TOGOTU# hcsecd -d

No output at all. And the command never exits. And the handbook
says that I should get some output indicating pairing.

Can anyone offer any assistance in pairing a BlueTooth headset? What
step am I missing? My end goal is I want to use Skype on FreeBSD with
it.

Thanks in advance

USB bluetooth problem...

2008-04-08 Thread Peter Harrison
I'm trying to get a no-name usb bluetooth dongle working without luck so far.

I'm reading through the handbook, so I've run:

# kldload ng_ubt

then I plug the dongle in, this is what I see in /var/log/messages:

Apr 8 20:28:22 laptop root: rc.d/bluetooth: ERROR: Unsupported device:

and I don't get a /dev/ubt0 so none of the other commands will work. I also
don't have a /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth as suggested,
but I do have a /etc/rc.d/bluetooth which seems to attempt to start the stack.

This is on:

Depends on the protocol your phone uses to access the net. For PAN
connectivity (which is the default Bluetooth way of Internet connectivity),
FreeBSD currently doesn't ship with a daemon that implements the server-side
of it.

I implemented a quick 'n dirty hack implementing the PAN protocol which works
fine with my Sony Ericsson (M600i) mobile, but YMMV when getting that to
run/work with different phones:

http://btpand.beenic.net

You'll have to get a mercurial client to check it out, and read the README
contained in the archive to get it to run (requires tap support in the kernel
and needs you to set up the bridging/routing to get the traffic from the tap
device to your local network).

Bluetooth problems

I'm unable to use a bluetooth connection between my fbsd 6.2 laptop and my

device, the laptop, even though it perceives the device.

Could you please give a helpful hand to this absolute bluetooth beginner?

chipset.

Do the other broadcom 20xxx series support this chipset? Is the one that comes
as part of the iwi on Thinkpad z60m laptop ( iwi0: )

Did you load the broadcom bluetooth firmware, and the bluetooth modules?

Eric

Bluetooth not working

2006-05-09 Thread Subhro

Hello Folks,

Recently I bought a new bluetooth dongle, an ISSC Bluetooth Stack
implementation. It works (apparently seems so) with Wind0ze. But when
I plug it into my FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE box, I get this in the kernel
logs:

May 9 15:43:32 phoenix kernel: ubt0: vendor 0x1131 ISSCBTA, rev
1.10/3.73, addr 2
May 9 15:43:32 phoenix kernel: ubt0: vendor 0x1131 ISSCBTA, rev
1.10/3.73, addr 2
May 9 15:43:32 phoenix kernel: ubt0: Interface 0 endpoints:
interrupt=0x81, bulk-in=0x82, bulk-out=0x2
May 9 15:43:32 phoenix kernel: ubt0: Interface 1 (alt.config 5)
endpoints: isoc-in=0x83, isoc-out=0x3; wMaxPacketSize=49; nframes=6,
buffer size=294
May 9 15:43:37 phoenix kernel: ng_hci_process_command_timeout:
ubt0hci - unable to complete HCI command OGF=0x3, OCF=0x3. Timeout
May 9 15:43:38 phoenix root: /etc/rc.d/bluetooth: ERROR: Unable to
setup Bluetooth stack for device ubt0

What could be the problem? Any insights?

Thanks and Best Regards
Subhro

I have no idea if this will help you or not; however, you could try
enclosing the directory or file name in quotes. I have used that method
on a few occasions when accessing a WinXP machine.

Bluetooth - obexapp - get/put files with spaces in names

2006-02-18 Thread dgmm
After some fiddling and hair pulling I eventually got my bluetooth adapter to
"see" the mobile phone.

I'd like to pull some files from it but either I'm not seeing the obvious or
it just ain't obvious.

Does anyone know how to change to a directory which has spaces in the name or
"get" a file which has spaces in the name?

I am have a problem with a linksys usbbt100 bluetooth dongle.

I am running

6.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE #0: Sat Jan 7 08:48:40 CST 2006

>From dmesg I get this

ubt0: vendor 0x0a12 product 0x0001, rev 1.10/5.25, addr 2

ubt0: Interface 1 (alt.config 5) endpoints: isoc-in=0x83, isoc-out=0x3;
wMaxPacketSize=49; nframes=6, buffer size=294

I have setup the /etc/rc.bluetooth file as described in the handbook,
and am using the ng_ubt module that is said to be the correct one.

When i run

/etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0

I get

bash-2.05b# /etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0

if i run

hccontrol -n ubt0hci initialize

i get

bash-2.05b# hccontrol -n ubt0hci initialize
Could not execute command "initialize". Device not configured

I am running hcidump at the same time, which doesnt give me much at all;

bash-2.05b# hcidump

The device looks like it is ok, but something freaky is not allowing it
to initialize properly and subsequent inquiry commands just time out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well not sure if you've seen this page in the handbook, but it covers
setting up bluetooth. At the bottom of the page, it covers Dial Up
Networking and using a phone for this. Often googling the subject will
bring up the appropriate handbook page as the first result; I googled
"bluetooth freebsd" for this:

Thank you, I'm also not worried about that, but I'd like to make one
more note: while I was trying to connect to Internet via GPRS
(unsuccessful yet, but that most of all needs separate discussion), I've
encountered messages like the following (note that they not always
follow each other):

ubt_bulk_out_complete2: ubt0 - Bulk-out xfer failed. TIMEOUT (15)
ng_l2cap_l2ca_discon_req: ubt0l2cap - unexpected L2CA_Disconnect
request message. Channel does not exist, lcid=0

Probably that's related in some way to our discussion, so I decided to
inform about 'em.

And excuse for my English if it's not perfect, it's not my native
language.

Since everything works, I'm not too worried about it. However, you
could try removing the startup script from running automatically, and
see whether you still get those messages. And then whether they still
happen if you run the script by hand after the system is up. That
would tell you a lot.

Bluetooth-related question

2005-09-17 Thread Andrew Pogrebennyk
Hi! Recently I've bought USB-Bluetooth-adapter and made the following
changes to setup it in FreeBSD: added ng_ubt_load="YES"
to /boot/loader.conf,
cp'ed /usr/share/examples/netgraph/bluetooth/rc.bluetooth
to /etc/rc.bluetooth, chmod'ed 555 /etc/rc.bluetooth and
changed wrote next lines in /etc/rc.local:

$ cat /etc/rc.local
#!/bin/sh
if [ -f /etc/rc.bluetooth ];
then /etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0
fi

Daemons like hcsecd and sdpd will be added to /etc/rc.local when needed.
Everything works fine but the question is why I'm recieving following
warning (they're white-colored) during startup:
WARNING: attempt to net_add_domain(bluetooth) after domainfinalize()
WARNING: attempt to net_add_domain(netgraph) after domainfinalize()

Besides, appears also
twice. Did I managed everything right, perphaps I should move startup
of bluetooth stack from rc.local to a more early script? Here's that
part of dmesg output:

rfcomm_pppd and nat - trying to share internet with palm via bluetooth

2005-03-26 Thread Peter Blowers
Hi, ppp newbie here.
I'm trying to share my freebsd machine's internet connection with my
palm via bluetooth. The freebsd machine is connected via wired
ethernet to a linksys wireless access point, that is connected to my
cable modem on the wan side. The linksys AP is my gateway.

Bluetooth seems to be working fine. I can connect and ping the freebsd
machine from my palm, but I can't get to the internet.
That is, I can't ping my ISP's DNS. I thought 'nat enable yes' or 'set
nat enable' would do it, but no luck.

I run the following on the freebsd machine:
/etc/rc.bluetooth start ubt0
sdpd
rfcomm_pppd -s -C 1 -l rfcomm-server
and in /etc/ppp/ppp.conf I have this:
rfcomm-server:
  set device /dev/cuaa1
  set cd off
  set dial
  set speed 115200
  set timeout 0
  nat enable yes
  set ifaddr 192.168.0.1/0 192.168.0.2/0
   enable dns
  add default HISADDR
  open
  disable pap
  deny pap
  disable chap
  deny chap
if I do this in ppp.conf instead:
  set ifaddr 10.10.0.2 10.10.0.201 255.255.255.0
where 10.10.0.2 is the wireless router(gateway), then the palm gets an
ip of 10.10.0.201 just fine, and it can ping the freebsd machine
(10.10.0.154) and the wireless router (10.10.0.2), but STILL can't get
to the internet.
Also tried setting net.inet.ip.forwarding=1. No change.

Anyone have some suggestions?
thanks,
pete

You have an out of date ports tree: openobex has been in ports for
some 4 months now:

http://www.freebsd.org/ports/comms.html#openobex-1.0.1

You're also running a deprecated version of FreeBSD -- there were some
serious bugs in version 5.2 which necessitated the release of 5.2.1
shortly afterwards.

I advise you to install cvsup --

# pkg_add -r cvsup-without-gui

and then use that to get an up to date copy of the ports tree. While
you're at it, also install portupgrade(1) as that will make
maintaining your installed ports into a doddle.

Instructions from the Handbook are here:

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cvsup.html

and a series of articles which give some very useful hints and tips
are here:

Thanks Matthew for the reply. But, its sad to say that I can't find any
"openobex" ports in my machine.

banao# ls /usr/ports/comms/openobex
ls: /usr/ports/comms/openobex: No such file or directory

I thought of actually using this openobex port but do you know how to find the
ports if its not in the distribution? Im using FreeBSD-5.2 and KDE 3.0. Im
actually searching the web for it but some sites dont have a link to the

would really work for FreeBSD-5.2, please send the link to me.

Thanks again!

Instead of trying to fix the compilation yourself, you can leverage
the work of those who have gone before you by installing the
comms/openobex port. In fact, with this software I think that some
quite significant patching of code is required:

% cd /usr/ports/comms/openobex
% ls files/
patch-Makefile.in patch-src-obex.c
patch-aclocal.m4patch-src-obex.h
patch-configure.in patch-src-obex_const.h
patch-ltmain.sh patch-src-obex_main.c
patch-src-btobex.c patch-src-obex_transport.h
patch-src-netbuf.h

Can't file transfer via Bluetooth in FreeBSD

2004-08-01 Thread Edwin D. Vinas
Hi,

I recently shifted to FreeBSD-5.2 from Windows XP because I know there is a
bluetooh support in these new 5.x versions. I was so glad that FreeBSD have
improved a lot! However, I have a problem with installing or making the
bluetooth file transfer work. Here are the details below:

I followed the documentation by Pav on http://www.oook.cz/bsd/bluetooth.html.
I was able to pair my Nokia 3660 with my FreeBSD-5.2 which has an MSI
bluetooth dongle. I was able to discover other devices, and execute other
built-in commands such as hccontrol, l2ping, l2control, sdptool etc. But, I
noticed that the the basic file transfer called OBEX was not yet incorporated
in the FreeBSD-5.2 and that I have to install an openobex or something. I
have succesfully installed openobex from sourceforge, but it doesn't have the
"obexapp" command. The i tried installing the "obexapp" from sourceforge too.
The problem is that I cant install it.

tar -zxvf obexapp-1.2.tar.gz
(extracts two directories openobex-1.0.1/ and obexapp/)

cd openobex-1.0.1
./configure
/usr/local/bin/make
/usr/local/bin/make install

cd obexapp
(no ./configure and NO README!!!)
so i tried, "make" or "/usr/local/bin/make"
when i tried "make":
banao# make

FYI - Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter recognized in FreeBSD 5.2.1 Release

2004-06-11 Thread Andrew L. Gould
The Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter, model F8T001 (100 meter range), is not
in the hardware notes, I thought I'd mention it here:

I just installed FreeBSD 5.2.1 on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The Belkin
Bluetooth USB Adapter mentioned above was recognized as ubt0. Also,
'hccontrol -n ubt0hci inquiry' returns its hardware information,
including its BD_ADDR.

I'm new to this bluetooth stuff, and I still have to customize the OS,
so I haven't gotten any further in testing.

Have fun,

FWIW I have successfully connected to the internet via GPRS over bluetooth
with a Nokia 7650 and the built-in USB adapter in the IBM T40p. It seems to
run stable (well except for the buggy-in-general phone). Dunno about HID
though.

FreeBSD 5.2.1 and Bluetooth

2004-03-04 Thread Loren M. Lang
We will shortly be starting some development with bluetooth and I'm
looking to setting up a workstation dedicated for that. This
workstation will also be used for palm os development since that is part of
the same project so the workstation needs to be somewhat stable for
that. Is the bluetooth support in FreeBSD 5.x well developed? The main
protocols we need are RFCOMM and HID support. I've heard some problems
with FreeBSD 5.2 as far as stability, but are they mostly fixed in
FreeBSD 5.2.1 or should I just go with Debian Linux for all of this.

need suggestions on making a wireless network using bluetooth.

2004-01-29 Thread Zhang Weiwu
Hello. I'll make a small wireless network in my office in the coming month.
Now I'm considering bluetooth instead of 802.11. In the office I have a
freebsd server, my own notebook runs freebsd. Other computers run MAC OS
and Windows.

* the office is not very big, just as big as the bluetooth signal can
reach. There are confidential information in the office, I don't want
anyone to get my data by just stopping a car in front of the office and
listen network traffice with a notebook.

* I don't see any network traffic problem. Usually we just transfer emails,
text documents and pictures.

* In China, the 802.11 device market is not clear yet, I don't know what
standard to follow (you surely know about the new Chinese spec on 802.11
network).

* We already have some bluetooth devices.

* Most of us use notebook computers. Notebook 802.11 cards are more
expensive than bluetooth cards.

* Some people in the office are going to buy GPRS enabled cell phone. If
they buy bluetooth enabled GPRS phones, they can go surf the Internet
outside the office through GPRS cell phone. This is cheaper than having
both 802.11 card and GPRS card.

So I decide I'd better use bluetooth. Several questions:

* Is it possible to make a wireless network by using bluetooth devices? Can
I have a bluetooth installed on the FreeBSD server, let it act as a
switch/hub? Would this network be stable?

* I never see anyone setup a network in this way, would there be many
unexpected problems?

I have just looked into this myself, so here is a brief summary of my
findings.

Bluetooth is supported via the netgraph framework, though only in 5.1 and
5-CURRENT. The USB adapters supported seem quite varied, from what I've
read, although 5.1's hardware notes only mentions a few :

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.1R/hardware-i386.html#BLUETOOTH

According to a message (
http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/net/2003-08/0130.html ) from
Maksim Yevmenkin, the guy who wrote the bluetooth stack, a lot more adapters
will work, based on their Linux support, see the link in the message.

Finally, here are some instructions on setting up bluetooth on FreeBSD :
http://www.oook.cz/bsd/bluetooth.html

Good luck,
Jonathan

There is a section on it from the Dec 2002 status report at:

lists the developers contact info and website, though that seems not to have

Bluetooth (BlueZ) or WLAN in FreeBSD

2002-10-16 Thread Pascal Giannakakis

Lo ppl,

i'd like to link a WinME PC to my FreeBSD via Bluetooth or WLAN, depending
on what
works and / or is cheaper. The (air-line) distance is around 10 meters
through 2
walls.

What would you recommend for this scenario (e.g., what drivers will work
fine with
FreeBSD)?

- 2 WLAN devices
- Internal PCI card
- external USB box

Or

- 2 bluetooth USB dongles

While i'm sure i will find a way to make windows use ip over bluetooth, i
wonder if
FreeBSD in the latest release will make it. I found this project:
http://bluez.sourceforge.net

The FreeBSD mailing archives lead me to this link, but on this site it talks
of Linux
only, and i cannot compile it on FreeBSD =(

The bluetooth solution seems smarter to me, and i'd love to see it work on
my fav OS,
as i can plug it out and carry it around in my pocket, use it with cellular
phones,
notebooks, other computers etc, so i would try this if bluetooth is
supported at least
in a basic manner.

Any comments appreciated, thanx!
