Another short answer is no Twisted-2.4.0 will still be required for 1.7.3. The long answer is that using twisted for the recording server is a bit of legacy from the old days. Really the record server needs rewriting to use either the code from freevo-2 or using the kaa.notifier code. Both are quite large tasks and it's difficult to find enough time to to this work myself.
