When I was on the game a few months ago, I heard that someone was working on an iOS client with sounds and such. Is this true, or just kids joking around? Re: [Audyssey] Recent Alter Aeon Updates
Hi. I actually rather enjoy the carving skills and other activities, though I've not quite got my mind around how brewing works as yet, sinse currently it seems what herbs I gather are random, and what recipe gets made for my tinctures or salves is somewhat random as well, and rather difficult to replicate sinse I can't guarantee to find the same ingredients next time. While I can't see Alter as a crafting mud where you spend time on carpentry or smithing or whatever (there are other muds that do that), I do like the options that let you do and create different things and gain experience working at something other than slaughtering your way through hoards of enemies. I actually wonder if the jobs system could have a little of this sort of thing involved. I know we have priest jobs (which I've not tried yet), but it might be fun to have jobs for other professions which required you to make an item, perhaps something specific. For example, a mage or druid could be tasked with brewing something with specific herbs plus an item gathered from a mob, or a necromancer could be tasked with finding a number of sul stones from specific targets. Thieves could be asked to pick a specific person's pocket etc, with the task you were given defigned by your skillset. Re: [Audyssey] Recent Alter Aeon Updates
Hi Dennis. I agree completely about consistancy, sinse it actually does make a difference. If one area your fighting goblins and orcs and then in another area your in a giant's kitchin slaying crazy animated mops and such, it makes it difficult to fully realize and believe the world especially with long standing quests and goals. For example, I really like the series of quests that runs from Pelham, through the false temple to the demon's cave on Kordon. I've seen other muds where every area is a little different, and while fun for a bit of craziness, they don't tend to create an over all impression, or be long lasting. Also, list search is very useful, sinse I'm afraid I have never been keen on eq stat balancing, actually i've always found it both a bit of a drag and somewhat to take me out of the game, so just being able to search stuff for what I need really helps. Actually I'm noticing in general that I'm hving an easier timeas a druid mage thani did as a clerric warrior, which I believe is due to thefact thatIm now pumping most everything into magic and not trying to actually be a decent warrior ontop of things, I also like the new charisma system for agro mobs as well. Hopefully this will mean less trouble on arcase and not getting stuck grind wise as I did previously. I also did wonder on a couple of things, firstly there was one area on slo I didn't seem to be able to get into, the gorro's nose area somewhere west of stilwater and north of the guardens. I went all around the edge, into the guardens, along the road, but couldn't find anything that looked like an entrance, which was a bit disappointing, though there didn't seem to be any quests in that area. Also, I still! couldn't do the two quests in Bandora Azul. Most everyone spoke spanish, and half of the doors were locked, also, one of the quests mentioned involved a lost child, well that place has so many kids wandering around it'd be more unusual to see a properly looked after child :D. Perhaps some hints on that area could be good, sinse I had the exact same problem when I did slo about five years ago, and also had to leave off those quests for the same reason. Other than that, it's nice to be back on the game, and judging by current progress it hopefully shouldn't take me too long to get back to where I was. Re: [Audyssey] Recent Alter Aeon Updates
Well if you need a tester let me know timezone wise I may not always be round but if it can have a soundpack with the mush z engine then I am all for it. One of the reasons I eventually quit alter ian was that I eventually ran out of things to do or some of the things were quite hard to beat, eventually I got bored of it, then again fantasy muds are really not my strong point, scifi is, I won't be able to or rather will not commit to constant play like I tried to with another scifi game I was testing because while it was fun at first I burned out and just stopped, then kidded myself I would come back, by the time I was kicked off, my motivation had dropped so low I wasn't even enjoying the game at all. The new and improved version is now good enough that it's used by default for storage lockers and looking in containers. A lot of the parsing bugs have been fixed, and it's so easy to use that even I can make it work. Draak has been adding sounds and sound triggers all over the place, though I don't know how long it will take for the Mush-Z developers to add them all. It's really neat to see so many things coming together from so many different builders and coders. Something that's really important and really awesome to me as a builder is something that most players don't care about: the world map. This has been one of our biggest work areas for a while now. We've been rearranging and updating areas, making them flow together better, and flattening the world map. In addition to this, the way we do world mapping itself is changing: the surface of Alter Aeon is gradually becoming consistent and properly three dimensional, similar to how the world map would look for a large scale MMO. I'd like to say I know what's coming up in the next few months, but I don't. The best I can say is that we plan to add a bunch of new spells and skills, and there are several more areas in the wings. I didn't mean a full on crafting mud, rather a means by which players can create equipment and use/sell it to others. Blacksmithing, for instance, might be a nice addition (though I recognize the inherent difficulties with adding a skill such as this). Re: [Audyssey] Recent Alter Aeon Updates
It depends on what you mean by crafting skills. I doubt that AA will ever be a true 'crafting' mud, where crafting is the ultimate point of the game. We've been gradually adding things that let players build or modify items. The enchanting system gives quite a bit of flexibility into changing and upgrading equipment, however it is expensive. Players can brew potions, scribe scrolls, create spellstaffs, bottle various things, and carve various things. Upcoming skills should allow us to harvest bone for various uses, bottle blood, and possibly make things like bone rings. We'll probably add another grenade type for thieves and the ability to harvest poisons. For all of these things though, you have to invest in the skills and have the levels. Crafting items like this can be a big part of the game, if that's really what you want to do. -dentin Alter Aeon MUD http://www.alteraeon.com On Sun, Apr 24, 2016 at 1:41 PM, Justin Joneswrote: > Are you planning on adding additional crafting skills? [Audyssey] Recent Alter Aeon Updates
I don't normally do this, but I wanted to talk about some of the stuff we've been working on for Alter Aeon. The biggest thing on my mind right now would be ease of use updates, and the biggest one of those would be the 'list search' changes. List search started a long time ago, as a way for players to more effectively search for equipment with stats, or to look for items with special flags or properties. The original code was cobbled together six years ago (!), and over the last couple of months we have been working hard to update it. The new and improved version is now good enough that it's used by default for storage lockers and looking in containers. A lot of the parsing bugs have been fixed, and it's so easy to use that even I can make it work. On top of list search, there has been a pile of little ease-of-use improvements and spam reduction changes. I'd really like to see the Archais fairy quarter open. For those of you who play, I hope you found this interesting. I haven't had a lot of time to spend on the game recently, but that doesn't mean nothing is happening.
