[Bug preprocessor/39559] New: constants too large for intmax_t need pedwarns

unsigned long long l = 9223372036854775808LL;

should get an error with -std=c99 -pedantic-errors, but instead gets a warning:

t.c:1:24: warning: integer constant is so large that it is unsigned

C99 does not allow decimal constants without "U" suffix to get an
unsigned type.  I think the preprocessor should pedwarn in this case
(for C99, not C90), to catch the use of such constants in
#if conditions as well.

The preprocessor already pedwarns for a value large enough to be outside
the range of uintmax_t (which is used to set the preprocessor's
internal precision), so I believe this case of a constant inside the range
of uintmax_t but outside that of intmax_t, in decimal without "U" suffix,
is the only current case of this bug.

See  for some
historical discussion (but it doesn't appear types wider than intmax_t
can ever appear this way after all).

Adding -maltivec to the PowerPC compiler turns on the altivec vector support. 
Part of the vector support is to add conditional expansion of the vector
keyword if it looks like vector is part of a type declaration (i.e. vector
float would declare a single precision floating point 4 element vector, or
V4SF).  If the next thing after vector is a macro that expands to
__attribute__((__unused__)), the compiler will realize that it should expand
vector to vector, and then glue it with the __attribute__.  I discovered this
when doing a bootstrap of the compiler with the power7 VSX instructions enabled
(VSX includes Altivec).

This is the declaration in fortran/iresolve.c that shows the problem:

If we change the argument to something other than vector, it will allow the

Compiling the attached source with the following options

 -Wall -fno-exceptions -O2 -fprofile-use=/blah  -fno-rtti 

will result in a code with infinite loop.

In DCE, special code is added to handle dead loops conservatively. However this
requires PDOM information (control dep info) to be valid. The PDOM is created
in unintialized variable warning, but gets invalidated before cddce pass (the
incremental update does not work well). With the wrong CD info, DCE pass tries
to eliminate the loop, but the exit edge fixup code ends up linking the
precessor not to its post-dom bb, but to itself -- leading to infinite loop.

A proposed patch will be posted to gcc-patches.

You need to understand what this code is doing to work out the source of the
bug.  The compiler is inlining a copy of the square-root function with an FPA
co-processor instruction

sqtd  f0, f0

which, if successful will replace the library call.  If the square root
succeeds it will not return a NaN, so the comparison of the result

cmf   f0, f0

will be that the two results are equal (a NaN never compares equal to itself).

So the square root function (sqrt) will only be called if a NaN was generated
by the machine instruction; it does this in order to set errno.

Of course, the ARM9 does not have an FPA co-processor so the original sqtd
instruction will be emulated by your operating system -- I strongly suspect
that that is what is generating the incorrect results and you now need to
investigate why.

If you still believe the bug is in the compiler you need to provide some
additional information, including how you configured the compiler and what
options you used when compiling your code.

[Bug c/39556] New: statics in C99 inline functions later declared extern

C99 prohibits an "inline definition" of a function with external linkage
from containing modifiable static variables or references to file-scope
static variables or functions.

A definition is an inline definition only if all file-scope declarations
for the function in the translation unit use "inline" and do not use
"extern".  Thus, this cannot be determined until the end of the translation
unit.  GCC gives the diagnostics for the above constraint too soon, leading
to the following valid examples being wrongly rejected with -std=c99
-pedantic-errors.  It needs to defer them and see at the end of the
translation unit whether the definition is an inline definition after all.

-Wdisallowed-function-list with any value fails when #including . 
Tested with SVN r145051:

For addresses it is already done in should_replace_address.  But for everything
else, there could be problems if one uses

  x = 0x123456789abcdef;

and fwprop propagates x into the asm.  If they used a "r" constraint
(correctly), reload probably will fix everything, but it may cause
pessimizations or I don't know what.  Sorry for the handwaving---the reason I
am a bit weary about propagating into asms is that we are quite careful about
it on the tree level.

pr39543-3.c crashes on f1 with optimization, but crashes on f2 without
optimization.  Which means that for f2, cse_not_expected does not work because
gimplification effectively has already done the same as force_reg.  In my
opinion that's the root cause: we worry about making asms complex, but we're
cavalier in making them simpler (hoping that something later restores the
complexity).

For 4.5, maybe SSA expansion fixes this?  (pr39543-3.c in Jakub's patch).  If
so, modifying fwprop is probably not the best thing to do.

Untested patch that cures all the 3 testcases by forward propagation into asm
operands, as long as the propagation doesn't increase the number of needed
registers.
As I need to update a bunch of locations at once, I can't use
try_fwprop_subst.  There are 2 things that try_fwprop_subst does that I'm not
doing, one is the rtx_cost (SET_SRC (set), SET, speed) > old_cost check
(I wonder whether it is needed for asms at all and if yes, how to actually do
it) and the update_df stuff (I'm never adding notes for asms, but for
successful
change I don't know how to inform df about the changes, if I need to do that.

Re-confirmed.  The fix is to eliminate duplicate PHI nodes in eliminate() by
copy-propagating PHI value-numbers.

That can be solved easily, just compare whether new_rtx doesn't need more
registers than old_rtx and only propagate into asm_noperands () >= 0 insns
those that require the same number or fewer registers.

Register Allocation Bug?

I have a question (or possible compiler bug) regarding inline assembly
that I hope you can help me with.

I wanted a routine that would give me the value and address of a
memory location relative to the stack pointer. What I initially tried
was the following:

It didn't work as expected so I looked at the assembler code generated
for the above:

 1:   b8 00 00 00 00  mov$0x0,%eax
 2:   8b 04 84mov(%esp,%eax,4),%eax
 3:   8d 14 84lea(%esp,%eax,4),%edx
 4:   89 45 f8mov%eax,0xfff8(%ebp)
 5:   89 55 fcmov%edx,0xfffc(%ebp)


As it turns out, %eax is being used for both input and output in line
2, clobbering %eax, so of course line 3 does not give the expected
result... Is this a compiler error?  I thought the only way the same
register would be used for both input and output was if you use the
"0" constraint? I'm compiling with 'GCC 4.2.1 20070719'.

The best solution I found was to split the two assembler statements in
the following way:

asm volatile ("lea  (%%esp, %1, 4), %0\n\t" :   \

The above compiles into six instructions instead of five (duplicating
mov $0x0,%eax) but is has the benefit of only using one register:

 3:   89 45 fcmov%eax,0xfffc(%ebp)

So, again, my question is this: Is the compiler doing what it's
supposed to when it's assigning the same register to both input and
output when the specified constraint is "r" and not "0"?

As far as I can tell this problem have been floating around for a

Both the dg-error clauses now fail; previously (4.3.2), only the second one
failed.  Reverting the patch causes the first dg-error (line 21) to pass again
by restoring the error message

C:21: error: definition of static data member 'Bar::three' of dllimport'd class

I'm not sure why that should be a problem in the first place, so I don't know
if the underlying issue is now fixed and not an error any more.  Anybody?

Best is just to track where this VAR_DECL is being written into the pch file
during PCH generation, see if it has DECL_HAS_VALUE_EXPR_P set, what
DECL_VALUE_EXPR it has (if any) and if all is ok on that side, see during PCH
reading whether DECL_HAS_VALUE_EXPR_P has been set and what went up with
DECL_VALUE_EXPR.
