Re: [Gimp-user] Auto shutdown
Hi, Recently I have been encountering a problem which does not exist before. Whenever I tried to the scale image, and tried to copy & paste, the program will auto shut down. An error message - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly was shown. I would appreciate if you can advise urgently as I got a project deadline to meet. Thank you. Re: [Gimp-user] problem getting the thing to work
Just a guess: Did you install GTK+ manually? That shouldn't be necessary any more with GIMP 2.6.x, but old GTK+ installations might mix badly with the one provided with the GIMP installer. Hi Avi, each object that has its own boundaries and that can be moved, transformed, manipulated individually, _is_ indeed an individual layer. This can indeed be cumbersome if you have lots of layers, but the situation will probably improve once layer groups etc. are available at some point in the future. If you feel you don't need to edit or move several layer individually any more, you can merge them into one single layer, either by merging down[1] or by merging all visible[2] layers. Note that text layers lose their special text layer property when merged with other (even text) layers. [Gimp-user] [GSoC] GIMP has been accepted into Google Summer of Code 2009
Hi, we have been selected by Google for this year's Summer of Code. Many thanks to them, we're appreciating this greatly. Now it is our task to make the most out of this opportunity, both for our projects and the students who will be applying for them. Administrators & Mentors: - sign up at http://socghop.appspot.com and - check your notifications and/or - apply to become a mentor Also, please check if the projects you'd like to mentor are listed at http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/SummerOfCode2009ideas, and make sure that their descriptions are useful. I'd like you to be around on IRC and the mailing lists as much a possible in the next few days, because you're the best sources of information for students who are interested in our projects. If you've already got candidates, please make sure that they check the program FAQ for - http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/program/google/gsoc2009/faqs, especially the parts about eligibility: http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/program/google/gsoc2009/faqs#age_limits Students: Join our min IRC channel #gimp on irc.gimp.org (http://www.gimp.org/irc.html) and our gimp-developer mailing list (http://www.gimp.org/mail_lists.html). Use these places to introduce yourself (briefly), and start to discuss the projects you'd like to - either one of our suggestions, or your own ideas. Regards, Michael -- Pt! [Gimp-user] A new layer enforced for each text object?
Hi all, I read something in the documentation that says that each text (box?) is automatically placed in a new layer. And that's also what seems to happen in practice. Doesn't sound so great to me. I like being able to have multiple objects in a single layer. So I can show/hide a whole lot of things at once. Also, if you have 50 objects in a pic, do you get 50 layers...???!!! So...in general, does GIMP enforce a policy of one layer per object? IF YES THEN Sounds crazy to me ELSE /* I can have many objects in a single layer */ Great! Now how can I disable this feature of creating text in its own new layer? IF IMPOSSIBLE THEN How at least can I move the text, after creation, to a different layer - i.e., a layer that contains a lot of other texts. Great thanks in advance, - avi ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] Diagonal Method
Dear Gimp users and developers, I am interested in portrait photography and I found very good results with the diagonal method crop. This method looks very easy to implement, but for some reason it is not available for Gimp. I can't even find any plugin which does it. I just found this old discussion thread: http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-developer/6145-Enhancement-Diagonal-line-crop-guide.html#msg28804 Is there any specific reason why diagonal method can't be implemeneted inside Gimp? Do you know any plugin or script which implements diagonal method? And last but not least - could you point me to any tutorial how to write such scripts in Gimp? Would be nice if I could do it in Python or C/C++. -- Free Software - find interesting programs and change them NetHack - meet interesting creatures, kill them and eat their bodies Usenet - meet interesting people from all over the world and flame them Decopter - unrealistic helicopter simulator, get it from http://decopter.sf.net ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Graypoint and gamma
I fail to understand the relationship between Gamma and the value of the Graypoint as shown in the Adjust Color Levels tool. Leaving the input and output ranges from 0 to 255 and setting gamma = 2.0 I expected the midpoint triangle to move to about 64. Input 0.5 to the power gamma is 0.25 (that is about 64 in 0 to 255 speak). In fact the graypoint triangle is showing approx. 0.33 (or 85). Would be grateful if someone could explain what is going on. Re: [Gimp-user] Photo Toolkit
I guess the amount of GIMP abilities used for processing of photographs, including retouching, depends on users qualification. Maybe there are some scripts or plug-ins which are not used in everyday life, but they can also be used for image decoration. So IMHO there can be "beginners" and "expert" modes, but not "photo" and "all". norman wrote: > Allowing for the fact that only a relatively small %age of GIMP is > useful for working with photographic images is there a place where these > items are gathered together?
