I do not understand the problem. I have machines running 3 normal X sessions (one in its video card, two remote) plus a VNC X session. And for fun I luanched 3 X one day (weird thing, I know, but the only way to test a thing is trying it, like "how many xterminals can I open?"). GSR

hi, thanks to the private responses (you know who you are) espcially the lead to: http://www.rru.com/~meo/gimp/faq-user.html#noX I can run the virtual screen as well as normal X. in fact, the batch job starts the virtual, runs gimp, then kills the virtual. I might make the virtual just start at bootup in future - but right now, the overheads arent high! 8-) alan

no X thankyou!!
hi, I'm trying to run Gimp as a batch processbut even with the no interface option on the command line, GTK wants to have access to the X display (even though it opens nothing on there!) so, how do i override this?? right now I'm having to xhost (servername) and keep X running...i want to get this all running from console..i see no reason for X to be needed... any helpers out there? alan
