Autotools can be perceived as scary, but they're not, and there is not much to know of them to use them in GNOME Zeitgeist. Users are not always working on just one computer, and to keep up with their work flow, we need to find a way to support that. To solve this, there should be a way of *really securely* uploading their logs. (The secure part CANNOT fail!), in order to keep their work synchronized. This can be achieved with pieces of information that is afloat, but not that easily with stationary documents. However, we can try to fill in as many of the pieces as we can: - Web history is in the DB, that's easy. - Mail history is maybe accessible, if the user uses IMap or similar - Notes can be accessed by the use of Conduit, if I'm not mistaken (other things too) - Chat history is logged, but separately in e.g. the Pidgin log. The logs should not be duplicated (that is unwanted, both because it adds storage, and, more importantly, it makes it more difficult to cover your tracks, so to speak. (I.e. deleting your logs) - Videos, music, documents, etc. is usually not accessible, but could be, if we add in optional support for Dropbox (proprietary alert). -- Files that are not accessible could then be greyed out, to let the user see it, although they can't use it. -- The user is asked to use Dropbox for their most important work, that they need to have with them at all times ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~gnome-zeitgeist Post to : gnome-zeitgeist@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~gnome-zeitgeist More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Gnome-zeitgeist] [Bug 539287] Re: gnome-activity-journal should keep track of recent activity in the same folder
** Project changed: zeitgeist = gnome-activity-journal -- gnome-activity-journal should keep track of recent activity in the same folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of GNOME Zeitgeist Team, which is the registrant for GNOME Activity Journal. Status in GNOME Activity Journal: New Bug description: I propose gnome-activity-journal to keep track of recently accessed folders, that is folders where some amount of activity has been done. Sometimes i'd like to have this feature, because i work at several files in a folder and i better remember this activity by the folder name than by ten or more different files. Example: I am in directory foo. Here i edit a python script, look at 10/15 images, edit a latex source file, read the pdf file created, etc etc. The day after i want to start this again, so i open gaj and i should see something like: some activity in folder foo [ * ] edited a file [+] read a document [+] worked with images [+] Here [*] means go to this folder and [+] is an expander button (like the existing one) GAJ should be smart enough to know when multiple files have been accessed/modified in the same folder and proposing to open that folder. Just an idea Cheers Davide ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~gnome-zeitgeist Post to : gnome-zeitgeist@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~gnome-zeitgeist More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Third, the blacklist plugin in AJ is hard to setup - we should focus on a simple use case of don't log anything from this directory, currently the user has to know that the plugin needs a uri-like expression (file:///home/user/dont_log/*), and this isn't said anywhere - Add folder button should be added there. [Gnome-zeitgeist] [Bug 910693] Re: Can't view old history (only last few days is accessible)
** Changed in: gnome-activity-journal Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: gnome-activity-journal Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of GNOME Zeitgeist Team, which is the registrant for GNOME Activity Journal. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910693 Title: Can't view old history (only last few days is accessible) Status in GNOME Activity Journal: Confirmed Bug description: I'm not sure if it's related to the new year, or just a coincidence; But today I went in to view older tasks and discovered I can't view (existing) history prior to 5days ago. Please see attached image of sequenced screen shots. You can see (from mouse hover) that history exists in the past, but if I select a date earlier than 5 days ago, the history detail for that day is nulled or 0 items. If I quit GAJ and restart it, exactly same thing occurs -- so it's not actually affecting the data,,, but it seems inaccessible. I am on ubuntu 11.10. After running into the problem I attempted to upgrade using ppa:zeitgeist/ppa -- but realized that currently there isn't a newer version of GAJ. Re: [Gnome-zeitgeist] [Bug 966284] [NEW] World or Scheduled activities shown as initiated by the User
2012/3/27 Alejandro J. Cura al...@canonical.com: I think that GAJ in this case should only show the events with manifestation=USER_ACTIVITY. That's arguable. However, I agree just showing a list of 300 files is wrong :P. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of GNOME Zeitgeist Team, which is the registrant for GNOME Activity Journal. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966284 Title: World or Scheduled activities shown as initiated by the User Status in GNOME Activity Journal: Confirmed Bug description: I've been syncing this past month my whole collection of 16k photos to Ubuntu One, and u1 has been logging ~500 synchronization events per day to zg as each file is uploaded. Re: [Gnome-zeitgeist-users] Zeitgeist/Emacs Integration
2010/6/10 Patrick Michael Niedzielski patrickniedziel...@gmail.com: Hi all, I am Patrick Niedzielski, an avid GNU/Linux user and programmer of the _Humm and Strumm_ Free Software 3D adventure game [1]. I have been using GNOME for many years, and I am extremely excited for the release of GNOME 3 later this year. I have already installed a preview of GNOME Shell on Debian Sid, and of course Zeitgeist. I am interested in this new way of accessing files, and I think in conjunction with the older file system method, this is a worthwhile direction for GNOME to travel. Hi Patrick, Thank you for your interest in Zeitgeist! I am sorry that you didn't get an answer before; I ignored this e-mail since I was busy with university work, and it looks like nobody else saw it, probably because we've moved to a new mailing list on lists.zeitgeist-project.com. I'm CC'ing the new mailing list. I am interested in writing a Zeitgeist module for my favorite editor, GNU/Emacs. I use it far more the GEdit, and my files are obviously not tracked by the Gnome Activity Journal. For now, it would just contact Zeitgeist when a file is loaded. Maybe later, I could add a recently used command, analogous to the new open dialogs [2]. To my knowledge, Emacs doesn't have any integration with Zeitgeist. This sounds great :). Could someone point me to some documentation to understand how this may be done? Also, how should I submit it when it is finished (not an in-depth project, maybe a LISP subroutine or two)? Thanks! You can find a complete reference at http://zeitgeist-project.com/documentation . However, you're probably better off just looking at some existing plugins, which you can find here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~zeitgeist-dataproviders/zeitgeist-dataproviders/trunk/files Once you finish your plugin we can include it into the zeitgeist-dataproviders repository. Re: [Gnome-zeitgeist-users] Hello everyone!
Hallo Thorsten, 2011/3/20 Thorsten Reinbold thorsten.reinb...@googlemail.com: Two questions about zeitgeist: Will there be a PPA for Natty with the latest stuff? I've just uploaded Zeitgeist 0.7.1 to Debian unstable and our Maverick/Natty Ubuntu PPA. I'll see if we can get it officially into Ubuntu Natty as well. And is it possible to disable the debug-messages in .xsession-errors? Not sure on this one, sorry.
