Budget Slowing Down Windows 10

2017-08-23 Thread Proberts042
I have been using gnucash for about six months now, and really like it. Easy
to use, and does the job well for my small school. I want to use the Budget
feature, but whenever I try to set up a Budget my Windoze 10 computer slows
down and gnucash announces frequently that the program is not responding. I
can seemingly use the other tabs that I have open with ease, but when I come
back to the Budget tab, gnucash flickers and announces again Not Responding.

I have searched extensively for any information on this, but have found
extremely little. I thought I saw that this was a bug that someone was
intending to address. I would really like to use the Budget feature, but so
far, have been unable.

One other tip (to ensure you don't create Imabalance splits): Do not hit
the 'enter' key until you are absolutely done entering all the splits!

Re: How to enter split transactions

2017-08-23 Thread David Carlson
I would also suggest trying the View>Auto Split Ledger>and View>Transaction
Journal menu options to see how those affect what you see while you are
experimenting.

I also happen to like to use the Double Line view. In fact I wish the
double line view was the out-of-the-box default.

Beyond what the tutorial might say, some advice to make easier.
a) Until you are experienced, do not attempt two way spits (transactions
split on BOTH the debit and credit side).
b) Begin with the unsplit side whichever that is. Enter in THAT account
but before selecting the other side account(s) hit "split".
c) Change the other side amount to the correct amount for the first
account on the other side, enter the account, and hit enter. The
remaining balance will say the account is Imbalance. That should be the
amount of the next split or larger. If larger, change to the amount of
the next split and specify the account and hit enter, and you repeat
"c". If the exact amount, when you have specified the account and hit
enter the transaction will be in balance.

d) When you are faced with a two way split, you might (for now) use
multiple transactions. For example, if manually opening a new set of
books (creating the CoA with all accounts zero and then making the
opening entry you could use two opening entries (one for the debits and
one for the credits)

Re: Retrieving online quotes

2017-08-23 Thread Peter Ling
Hi David,

So the problem was step 2. As you can see from the screen grab below, after
opening preferences I had to select Locations, then select Xcode 8.3.3 under
the Command Line Tools drop-down. Not so difficult but it did throw me.

Install Xcode.app, a free download from the App Store or, on pre-10.7 versions
of OSX, included with your distribution DVD.
(App Store downloads only) Run Xcode, open preferences, select
downloads/components, and install command line tools.
Drag Update Finance Quote.app to the same folder that you put Gnucash.app, then
double-click it to open. It will open a Terminal window, request your password
for root access, and run cpan to install Finance::Quote from the perl software
site CPAN. It will ask for confirmation many times; accept the default every
time.

Google "gnucash split transaction tutorial" also has a youtube video that
