Thanks everyone! Just what I needed to get over the hump. As David 
Cousens wrote there is usually no need to know what these codes are or 
to access them. In my case I was mostly and merely curious how things 
work but I did have the idea to adjust column sizes to be uniform across 
all or most accounts by editing the .gcm file. Having the GUID 
associated with a particular account that was either the model or 
perhaps the exception (because of the specifics of the transfers length 
maybe?)  could have GUIDed me perhaps. I really appreciate y'alls help.

Only ever do this on a copy of your datafile not the original as the risk of
making the datafile unusable if you accidentally change anything and then save
the changes to the file is quite high.Preferrably always keep an unedited backup
copy of the data file as well jut to be sure.

I had the same problem as Paras Desai. I checked the library and it 
contains a file libxmlsec1.dll, but not the required libxmlsec.dll one. 
I renamed the first file name to the required one (removing the "1") and 
the error message disappeared.

Sorry, I misinterpreted

I find a message about lock file stating gnu cash instance is already running

That's normal after a crash, which prevents GnuCash removing the lock file. You can 
safely click "Open Anyway" in that case.

If you get the entry point error again could you take a screenshot? I can't find any 
references to "xmllOFTPClose" in any of our dependencies nor does Google find 
it.

That's how I would do it with the XML backend too.

If you are crafty with scripts, you can likely create a table/file, 
mapping the account names to GUIDs for future reference.


or,

Switch to one of the SQL backends and write a query, or just examine the 
"accounts" table directly. Of course, in this case, you have the added 
complication that only the end leaf account names are saved in plain 
text. But the 'parent GUID' is also stored, so it is possible to sort 
out similarly named accounts.


*note, while there are many ways to view the tables in one of the SQL 
backends, an easy one is to use the SQLite manager plugin for Firefox 
with the SQLite3 backend. (it is an older type plugin, so I keep a copy 
of Waterfox Classic around to use it.)

What version of GnuCash are you using?

And, it sounds like you are on a Windows 10 computer. Is that right?

When asking for help with GnuCash, it almost always helps to be specific 
about the version of GnuCash and of your operating system.


Also, a search of the GnuCash documentation turns out some possibly 
useful reading:


The GnuCash FAQ, it tells how to "replace Display Symbol with your 
desired text": 



In Stack Overflow, somone asked "How to show ₹ symbol in GNUCash?", and 
the reply specified to put a space after the "₹" symbol. Without the 
space, GnuCash apparently displays "?". 



If this works for you, please tell the list what worked. That helps the 
next person who wants to do the same thing.

[GNC] Indian rupee symbol ₹

Hello

I was trying to introduce Indian rupee symbol ₹ instead of Rs. In GNUCASH

I tried to follow following steps..

1. I went to regional setting of my windows 10 and changed the currency symbol 
from drop-down option to ₹. After doing this when I opened GNU, Rs. Was 
replaced by ? Mark.

2. Then I tried to go to currency setting (security setting) found Indian 
rupee, pressed edit at bottom and tried to change currency symbol from Rs. To ₹ 
by pressing control+ alter+ 4. I could type rupee symbol but after pressing ok 
it reverted to Rs.

3 So GNU recognises rupee ₹ symbol neither through window setting nor setting 
from within GNU case nor combination of both.


It does recognise other currency symbol however.

This is not absolutely critical, but thought of sharing.

I 100% agree.

I know I have been a pain in the butt concerning my bad habits in saving 
files but I am grateful for the rescues.

This dev team is hands down awesome and why I continue to use GnuCash 
and likely always will.


I don't mind the bugs. I get that isn't for everyone, but then, simply 
don't be so quick to upgrade. That goes for any product, digital or 
physical.
