[GNC] Button1 & Button2

2020-10-22 Thread Paul Konnersman
On pages 75 & 76 (87 & 88 of the printer dialog) of the Help Manual there
are references to "Button1" and "Button.2" I have not been able to
identify either of these buttons.

[GNC] CSV import of Credit Card Transaction Data

2020-10-19 Thread Paul Konnersman
MacOS Version Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2) and GnuCash Version: 4.2 Build ID:
4.2+(2020-09-26)

I’m attempting to import a CSV Credit Card transaction file. In the import
Preview window I have the following fields mapped to the import data:
“Date,” Num,” “Description,” “Memo,” but there seems to be *no appropriate
mapping for the fields that I might call “Debit/Credit,” and “Amount.”*

I don’t see a need for Debit/Credit since that can be handled with the
minus sign on amount. But certainly, I need “Amount.” But I can’t find any
reference to it in the docs. What have I missed?

[GNC] New User

2020-10-13 Thread Paul Konnersman
I am a new user trying to run GnuCash 4.2 on a Mac PowerBook running MacOS
10.15.7. I did manage to get it running briefly, put my chart of accounts
in manually and then tried to instal OSF using the OSF installation tool. I
succeeded only in corrupting the file.

I I wiped all GnuCash files from my PowerBook, ran disk utility twice and
am now staring at the instructions in Read Me which is making my eyes
cross. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to be a bug in GC 3.3. I have gone back to GC 2.6 and the problem is
gone.

[GNC] Problem with column mapping in Import preview window

2018-10-12 Thread Paul Konnersman
I’m a very new user, trying to import transaction data in CSV format. I am
running GC 3.3 on a Mac Powerbook with High Sierra (10.13.6).

I imported two files with a minimum of problems using GC 2.6, then found
out that the current version was now 3.3 and upgraded.

I am having problems with the import preview Window—trying to map columns.
It is difficult to get the cursor to move appropriately, it suddenly
disappears just when you are about to make selection, once you make a
selection it reverts back to “NONE”, eventually I get “do not enter” icons
to the right of the dates and the lines all turn red.

Any suggestions? I am thinking of trying to export what I have and then go
back to GC 2.6.

[GNC] Importing csv transactions

2018-09-10 Thread Paul Konnersman
I'm new to Gnucash and trying to get set up. I successfully imported a
couple of years worth of transactions into one account a few months ago
when I was evaluating Gnucash. Now I'm trying to import more transactions
into that same account without success.

My process:
1) Menu Bar> File> Input> Import Transactions from CSV
2) Navigate to CSV file to be imported
3) Set Date format to y-m-d
4) Set currency format to "period"
5) Map columns in imported file to columns in Gnucash

   1. Date -> Date
   2. Num -> Num
   3. Description -> Action
   4. Account -> Transfer
   5. Notes -> C
   6. Deposit -> Debit Amount
   7. None -> Credit Amount
   8. None -> Balance

6) I get a notice repeated three times that reads, "Date Column could not
be understood."

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Date Change

2018-02-21 Thread Paul Konnersman
My earlier reply was addressed to the wrong person.

I think that you will find what you're looking for here:

*MenuBar> File> Accounts> "Day Threshold to Read-Only Transactions (red*
* line)*

*If you enter zero in"Day Threshold" field all transactions will be
available in Read/Write,*
*If you enter the numeral "n" in "Day Threshold" field all transactions
will be available in Read/Write for the last "n" days, but read only if
the transaction date is more than "n" in the past. .And you will only be
able to back-date a transaction "n" days*

Hope this is helpful.

Gnucash aberent behavior

2018-02-04 Thread Paul Konnersman
I am currently trying to set up Gnucash and am encountering a great deal of
aberrant behavior.

1. Using the cursor in pull down lists selects the item below the cursor
which can be overcome with the up/down arrow keys

2. Currency selection shifts from default (USD) to Andorian Franc (ADF)

3. Entry in “Account Name” field is transferred into “Account Code” field

4. Apple Pages files have the gnu cash file identifier appended to the file
name with it’s “Pages” file identifier

5. The new account window is slightly too short to permit selection of
“Cancel/OK”

6. Clicking on GC window during what appears to be a launch hang-up results
in a “Unsaved Book” with no data in it and notification that "The
file/URI/Users/PMK/Desktop/SEP 2018 Itinerary.pages.gnucash could not be
found. the referenced file is a pages file with ".gnucash" appended to it.

Any diagnostic or solution suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks Jeffery, I'll save that sight for future reference.

It turned out that all I needed was a quick search and replace (replace "/"
in the date field with "-") and everything then went smoothly.

Gnucash freezes while loading data

2018-01-20 Thread Paul Konnersman
I have just made the decision to use Gnucash. So far I have successfully
imported my chart of accounts from a csv-file and attempted to import a

Gnucash freezes and I have to force quit. Any suggestions will be
appreciated.
