David Open banking is a practice to share information by financial institutions to 3rd party service providers. The service providers need to get explicit customer mandate to access the data and share personalized experiences. Europe has been a pioneer in this to democratize the financial data and create new opportunities and customer experiences. The Open Banking initiative is only open in the sense of business-to-business. The banks will only talk to authorized API implementations. And becoming authorized means keeping the banks and API consortium happy. That takes money as well as other hoops to jump through.
