Speaking on the occasion the Vice President of TAG Shri.Roseferns stated that late Peter D’Costa was a member of his dramatic troupe for a long period of almost 9 years. During this time he acted in over dozens of tiatrs written and directed by Roseferns and won the hearts of the tiatr audience by acting character roles of different personalities in social, political and religious fields. Shri.Premanand Lotlikar, President of Dalgado Konkani Akademi stated that Peter D’Costa was a very good lyricist and must have composed hundreds of songs for different writers. Numerous personalities from the tiatr field namely Jessie Dias, Sabina, Wilmix, Anil Kumar etc. also expressed their views on the contribution of late Peter D’Costa to Konkani Tiatr particularly the Khell Tiatr. Mr.Tomazinho Cardozo in his presidential address appealed the tiatr fraternity to constitute a special fund for helping the needy tiatr artistes and their families when they are in distress. Joaquim D’Costa brother of Peter D’Costa thanked the TAG and all the tiatr artistes present for showing love and concern towards the family of Peter D’Costa. Smt. [Goanet] CM And His Rendezvous With Criminals Of Monti Dongor ?
CM The Don Of Migrant Criminals Crime and Monti Dongor are synonymous, it's been more than two years since a cache of swords was found at the Monti Dongor and thereafter, it's been nearly one year since the FIR was filed against the suspects but since then there has been no news of the case at all, a clip of the CM having drinks with the suspects has been making rounds in the cyber world and hence one begins to wonder, if this case will ever see a conviction as these antisocial elements have a godfather in Goan politics, namely the CM of Goa. In the past there have been numerous instances of crime and violence emitting from the two most sensitive hot spots in Margao, namely the Monti Dongor and the Kharebandh area, which are the strongholds of migrants who are die hard supporters of our CM the Ali Baba. These antisocial elements are the men of the hour for our beloved CM. During the terrible floods in Canacona last year, the CM was seen distributing sarees to migrants at Kharebandh, showing his distorted priorities, that's why he later went on to say with irrational exuberance, that he did not need our votes, this just shows how important the migrants are to the CM. He is an invincible Master of vote bank politics. A few days earlier there have been a number of flare-ups between the rival supporters and a strong security presence was noticed in these sensitive areas. These bastions of lumpen goons have been incubated and nourished at the behest of our CM, these poor souls are taken for a ride by the manipulative genius, used as and when needed and then discarded as per convenience. This amalgamation of politics and crime has been corroding the innards of the very fabric of our society. The CM will go to any length to describe his inimitable skills as an administrator and also flaunts his democratic ideologies only to subvert them without a schism in his soul, this only exposes the inherent hypocrisy in our CM. As much as he says he is for the Aam Aadmi, his only interest is the wellbeing of his migrant vote bank, to him Goans are trash. It's the apathy of the Goan voter that's responsible for the arrogance of the CM. When will Goa wise up ? [Goanet] India Shining?
Lack of morality Pervasive corruption By S N Chary The Indian society has been reduced to a mass of people who are out to grab anything and everything and find short-cuts to doing so. The year 2010 has been hit by major scams: Commonwealth Games and 2G Spectrum involving huge sums of money — more than a lakh crore of rupees. Now there is the Adarsh Housing Society being shamefully special in its own way: A housing society that was meant for the widows of Kargil war martyrs, has been usurped by high level politicians — chief ministers, ministers, top level defence officers including Generals and Admirals, and senior bureaucrats; none of the flats has gone to any Kargil widow. There is an apt phrase for such a despicable act: Baking rotis on the ‘chita’ (burning corpse). Is this all the ‘quality’ of leadership that our society could produce in public life, civil service and even in defence? Indians already have a negative opinion of the ethical standards of their politicians; but what about the military officers who get selected only after gruelling tests and rigorous training and who are supposed to guard our country’s honour and integrity? Also, the IAS and other central services are supposed have their own code of ethics. The guardians of our country seem to have turned into mean preying wolves. One wonders about the moral state of our society, because, after all, it is the society that throws up its leaders. A cursory examination of the common man and his behaviour should throw light at the state of ethics in our everyday life. Indian society has been reduced to a mass of people out to grab anything and everything and find short-cuts to doing so. Let us look at the behaviour of our vehicle-owning class on the roads. We rarely ever follow lane discipline. If a small space is available, we try to outsmart the other guy by pushing the nose of our vehicle in. In this process of mutual prevention, no one goes faster; everyone gets delayed because of the jams. Some people fix blow-horns that can make the other commuters go deaf or use blinding headlights to get ahead. In housing societies, a simple ethical sense should tell the residents not to make their dogs and other pets bog in the common areas such as the walking space; but, we invariably find owners of the pets violating this ethic. If there is a semi-open car park — say under the stilts — and the owner is absent for a few days, others park their vehicles in it with impunity. Owners of bungalows in cities like Bangalore build car parking spaces outside their compound thereby occupying the public road-space. Large corporate houses, including famous IT companies, seem to provide insufficient parking space for their employees’ vehicles and turn a blind eye when the employees regularly park their vehicles on the roads adjacent to their offices. In effect, the companies have grabbed the public road space. Law breakers Let’s look at our queues at the counters; wherever possible, people break the line or even cleverly confuse everybody by forming multiple lines ultimately resulting in a huge melee. Being ‘clever’ is a greatly appreciated quality in our society. In fact, we many a time confuse cleverness with intelligence. One of our superhit movies shows the heroes — students of a premier engineering college — resorting to tricks during the examination; the biggest hero in the movie even mixes up the answer-sheets so that the invigilating professor cannot catch him and his friends writing answers even after the exam bell goes off. Such cleverness is lapped up by our cine-going public. In another superhit movie, the heroine — studying medicine (God save us) — copies in her exam with the help of laser technology! Movies, many say, are a reflection of the society. What is ‘corruption’? Grabbing land, flats, space, profits, incomes, admissions to schools/colleges, marks, honour (eg: state/national awards), even wages that do not rightfully belong to us. Corruption has at its core the thought and act of ‘selfishness’ at the cost of the others. A society/community has certain rules, laws, contracts and norms so that the larger good of the members of the society/community is served. When selfish intent makes one violate these rules, laws and/or norms, it is termed corruption. When one does not do one’s wage-earning work honestly, one is violating the community’s contract. When an item is made or built below the stipulated quality, one is violating the norm. With lower quality, one may, at times, be endangering the health and lives of the users of that product or service. When one litters, spits or urinates publicly, one is violating the space that belongs to others. A corrupt person, when occupying top positions, gets opportunities to perform bigger corrupt acts or condones such acts. So, if Indians are more selfish creatures and therefore more corrupt than many others in the world, why

[Goanet] Poaching And Deforestation Still Rampant In Goa
Poaching And Deforestation Still Rampant In Goa It is indeed very disheartening to know that even after all the improved facilities for the forest officials, poaching still continues. I did not know if I should cry or laugh at the article Poaching in wildlife sanctuaries has reduced substantially in one of the leading dailies. We are in the 21st century, science and technology have manifested it's in leaps and bounds, surveillance technology is at it's best and our forest officials are only too happy with the marginal fall in poaching ? Is this the best our forest officials can do ? We do not have a vast forest area like Karnataka or other states up north or the east and yet we find poaching and deforestation on a very large scale in and around, what's left of our once rich forests, which were full of bio-diversity. Tolerance of wrong is not tolerance; it is complicity. It has been rightly said that for evil to succeed all that is required is for the good to do nothing. Goa today resembles a once-beautiful queen, stripped off her looks and jewels, but still alluring to old admirers, who are only clinging to faded memories of her gracious past. The element of nostalgia still lingers while the illusion lasts. The Ali Baba government has been giving us assurances after assurances that illegal mining would be stopped and the culprits brought to justice, especially those involved in and around the wildlife sanctuaries but so far no action has been taken and the piquant irony is that the main pillars and the top luminaries of the Ali Baba government have themselves been laying siege to Goa's ecology and environment in the name of development and those not involved, are supporting the degradation of our wildlife habitats for the share of the spoils. I do not have a clue as to why, we Goans are not at all interested in preserving what's left of our ecology and our environment. The world over people and governments are going all out to preserve and protect what's left of their bio-diversity and the wild life, because they now know, that our very own survival depends on how we relate to mother nature's gracious gift to mankind. Let's not be blinded by the hype of commerce and economics and devastate nature in the name of development because our greed and gluttony will one day be the cause our very own annihilation. Mahatma Gandhi once said You may never know what results come of your action, but if you do nothing, there will be no result. So let's act now. [Goanet] Talking Photos: Krishi Mahotsav 2010 (Report with pics)
Krishi Mahotsav or Krishi Mela 2010 Organised by Directorate of Agriculture. It’s an annual event to help the local farmers (remote hilly areas etc mainly from the south) to exhibit their produce and sale. We read about it that this year it’s going to take place on 9th Nov till 11th at Margao. What we didn’t know was where exactly in Margao it’s taking place? So, we got down at Margao KTC bus Stand and took another city bus to Margao city. Straight went to Lohia Maidan near Marliz/ La Marina. Then we went to enquire at ZAO office situated at communidade building there. We were told it’s at SGPDA ground or near Osia Cinema. So, we are back to KTC bus stand. The event is really beautiful with mini hut like stalls. displaying their farm produce including fruits, bottled products, bamboo products, dry fruits, seeds etc. Looks very authentic and beautiful but how could we get access to the stalls? Thanks to the morning November rains which played spoilsport. The ground was soaky ‘chek-chek’ all over with red mud. One could not get closer to the stalls without dipping his footwear about 1-2 inch deep red mud. Those wearing track shoes etc, it was virtually inaccessible for them unless he didn’t mind going home with painted shoes. Leave alone the exhibition areas, even the existing ‘katcha’ road, linked to main road NH17 was inaccessible. Two of my group stayed out so did many (I also saw two teenage sons in a family of 5 who refused to enter..) I made it so that I can take pics. When come out, we washed out feet and foot wear at the nearby flowing stream which is in front of the venue. When we were at it, many car/bus drivers from NH17 hooted at us (we reacted saying FO) (we also had one lady friend in our group) The dept could have temporarily covered the ground area with ‘Madda Chutt’ttam jitim or suklolin’ (coconut palm leaves dry or green laying double or treble) Hopefully, the situation will improve today, atleast by noon as there was no sign of rain till 12.30pm (may have rained from 5-10am). Please do visit mela or the show, if in Goa, as I am sure you will see some (open till 11th Nov.2010) of the items you never seen or never heard of before. I bought my favourite ‘Ponnsa Satam’ Rs.20 each paket but she had no papers to wrap nor any bags. Two of the four I ate in the bus which took about an hour to reach home (local bus not shuttle, as shuttle don't stop at our palce) OK let’s see the pics which I have hand-picked, out of so many. I have covered almost entirely despite of the reported unfavourable situation.. The dept. even abandoned or cancel it's morning inaugural ceremony due to the ground situation. Huge stage set up also seen. A video clip may also come soon The pics Look who’s welcoming you? [Goanet] Villagers of Cansaulim press for notification of eco-sensitive zones and restriction of cosntruction to 50 Floor Area Report (FAR)
Just as in the other villages of Benaulim, Tivim, Chicalim, Cansaulim it was the turn of the Villagers of Cansaulim who in their meeting on Tuesday November 9th pressed the Government of Goa to go ahead with the notification of eco-sensitive zones and restriction of constructions till finalisation of the Regional Plan 2021. Recently the villages of Cansaulim and Velsao were flooded by the freak rain-showers in late October thanks to the damage that is wrecked on the land by all the construction, filling up of fields and ponds to construct the Sports Complex in Cansaulim, blocking of traditional drainages and paths by unscruplous builders, with the backing of the local MLA. Does the Government of Goa and our politicians care about common villagers when it’s all about raking the moolah and patronising their builder buddies like the Queeny’s, DLF, Rahejas and the rest when it comes to protecting eco-sensitive zones and ratifying RP 2021 per the wishes of the people? The Government has a vested interest in pushing it’s hidden agenda although this is apparent to all. The next round of village meetings are scheduled for: November 11, near Ideal High School, Piligao-Bicholim and November 13 at Moira Club grounds November 14 at Tiracol-Pernem. Villagers will share the trials and difficulties that they are faced to deal with because of illegal mining destroying vast tracts of forest land with both flora and fauna and endangered species lost forever and sale of almost an entire village that houses a historical site. So what if all the soil and the natural resources are shipped on a slow boat to China, the Railways and the MPT will make sure that they speeden up the process by acquiring more land and coastal areas in Salcette. The Goa Government in turn is now trying to bring the entire population of the country with the largest poulation in the world namely China to Goa as tourists as per the latest news reports – all the more reason to go on a massive construction without caring a damn for Goa and Goans. In the meantime all that mineral wealth that is being exploited can be used by our neighbour to create more weapons to be directed against our own Nation! There is a method to the madness behind the Government of Goa’s grandiose plans only it doesn’t include the welfare of Goans in the scheme of affairs! The following reports on the meeting in Cansaulim are from today’s Herald and Navhind Times. Cansaulim villagers press for notification of eco zones - Navhind Times Published on: November 11, 2010 - 00:24 MARGAO: The Cansaulim village group organised a village-level meeting in the panchayat hall on Tuesday as part of the GBA’s campaign to press for the notification of eco-sensitive zones and restriction of constructions till finalisation of the Regional Plan 2021. At the meeting, in the wake of the chief minister’s announcement that the Pernem and Canacona taluka plans had been approved by the TCP board, villagers sought to know when their taluka plans would be ready and criticised the delay. Ms Sheila Gracias coordinated the discussions on the Regional Plan and explained how the village level committee of Cansaulim worked to map the village resources and passed gram sabha resolution to accord VP 3 status to their village. She lamented that the delay in notifying the eco zones and approving the village status had led to unnecessary tension in the village as construction plans were approved contrary to the decisions of the gram sabha. Mr Max D’Souza from Pale-Velsao echoing the sentiments of Ms Sheila said that he was also part of the village committee for the Regional Plan and had extensively toured every ward to get the data of the village on the plan. Mr Ashley Fernandes of Cansaulim explained the demographic changes that are taking place under the guise of development in Cansaulim and alleged that greed and corruption are leading to social tensions and disunity in the villages, as the people’s plan is not implemented. Mr Miguel Braganza of GBA argued that the GBA had worked for the RP 2021, reaching the people, so that they could decide whether the kind of development envisaged by the government benefits the village or not. Mr Arvind Bhatikar said that the government should come out with clear guidelines on the basis of which the taluka plans have been drawn up. The people are unaware about the guidelines and the fate of village plans they had participated in revising and incorporating, Mr Bhatikar said. Fr Maverick and Dr Sabina Martins, convener of the GBA also spoke. Similar village meetings have been scheduled on November 11, near Ideal High School, Piligao-Bicholim, and November 13 at Moira Club grounds, November 14 at Tiracol-Pernem. *Cansaulim insists on notification of eco-sensitive zones* * * *HERALD REPORTER* *PANJIM, NOV 10 * Village group of Cansaulim have insisted notification of

[Goanet] Respect our Right to Identity
In support of: Message: 5 Date: Tue, 9 Nov 2010 22:04:48 +0530 (IST) From: Bernice Pereira bernicepere...@yahoo.com To: soter so...@bsnl.in, Goanet goanet@lists.goanet.org Subject: Re: [Goanet] Fw: RE: Goanet Digest, Vol 5,Issue 1215 - Respect our Right to Identity Hi Bernice, I can understand your dilemma, these money bags think, just because they have the money, they can buy everything and everyone. I salute you for your brave stand, even though you are a lady, I wish we had more men and women like you. It's sad indeed that we Goans have not yet woken up to the reality. You have asked a very valid question, why is Goa being turned into a concrete jungle without the required infrastructure ? All over Goa it's the same state of affairs and activists and people are asking the same question, but get no answers. You find Kashmiris, Rajasthanis and ofcourse the rich Gujjus all over Goa, doing what they do best trying to buy everything and everyone with their money power and we Goans loose our bearing and lap-up what's thrown at us. It's us Goans who have been selling our ancestral lands, not the one's we bought with our hard earned money but what was given to us as a legacy by our ancestors, words once spoken cannot be retrieved, what's said is said, so is the land that is sold, once sold it's gone. The destruction of our rich fields, ecology and our environment has been termed as development, but when asked development for whom ? They just seem to have amnesia. During the Carmona mega housing agitation, Orlando was pushed against the wall, but fought and exposed, the self proclaimed man of the masses, Churchill Alemao, who went on to say that the activists and NGO's were squealing like pigs, when they objected to the mega project, he further went on to call it a developmental project where Goans could work as watchmen, while he and his entire family became billionaires at the cost of Goa and Goans. The days when we could take a long relaxing walks on beaches without being hassled or without our path being blocked, by temporary or permanent structures, or even the beach beds or shacks, have long been gone. Today you see all filth, beggars, conmen, conwomen, junkies, thieves, peddlers and even rapists and murders laying siege to our once safe and beautiful beaches. Commercialism, corruption, unhealthy and unplanned tourism has been the cause of our misfortune. There is yet a new breed of Goans that have popped up of late in different medias, professing the very old adage if you can't beat them join them and are sing paeans of the corrupt politicians on different medias, thinking that they could change the carnivorous Hyenas into veggies and I am sure it will not be long before these guys get hooked to the carnivorous diet of the Hyenas themselves, if they have already not got the taste of it. Our corrupt politicians will not change unless we stop them by force, they will never listen to reason or goodwill, that good old dogma has been cast into the bin. It's only the public outrage that can bring about a change and force the Hyenas into a veggie diet. I am happy that there are a lot more people and youngsters who want a change and are getting involved, the trail has been picked up and it won't be long before the pose catches up with renegades, that, will be the day of reckoning, the dawn of a new era. Hope we can be proud of our beloved Goa once again in this life time.
