Goan Welfare Association (GWA) president Simon D’Silva handing over a cheque of Rs. 3 Lakh to Archbishop of Goa Daman, Felipe Neri Ferrao at Bihop’s Palace, Altinho on Monday, 22 December. Former Chief Minister and GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro, GWA Event Coordinator Glorio Fernandes, Members Nancy D’Silva, and Sacra Fernandes are also seen The cheque was handed over to Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Filipe Neri Ferrao by GWA president Simon D’Silva in the presence of former Chief Minister and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro; GWA Event Coordinator Glorio Fernandes, members Nancy D’Silva and Sacra Fernandes. Appreciating the initiative of GWA, the Archbishop said that the donated amount will be exclusively used for the orphan children suffering from HIV and in setting up a new training institute/college for DEd teachers in Goa. The training institute which is in the nascent stage would be set up at Sancoale (Padr. Jose Vaz). He said that the Goan Welfare Association has been donating regularly for charitable causes and thanked for their generosity in helping such social causes in the State. Luizinho lauded the charitable, social and cultural activities of the GWA and praised them for doing yeomen service for the Goans. He also applauded Simon D'Silva and his team for celebrating 14 consecutive years of success. Simon thanked the Archbishop and Luizinho, who he said guided and converted GWA's altruistic desires into reality. Since 2001, the GWA have pitched in to support organisations involved in relief work for the cause of the downtrodden and neglected sections of society in India, he said. GWA Qatar functioning under the dynamic leadership of President Simon D’Silva who have been consistently doling out funds for relief work to different organizations in India. D’Silva is also the recipient of Global Goans Community Service Leadership Award from the Government of Goa and recently Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) appointed him as the Convenor of Congress NRI Global Goans Cell. The Goan Welfare Association has been the voice of Goans living in Qatar for the last 15 years without any doubts. Superbly led by the multi-talented Simon D’Silva, the association has rendered yeoman’s service in nurturing Goan culture and spirit among the large number of Goan expatriates. On a larger note the association has always been in the forefront of reaching out to various causes back home, thus setting a shining example to all. It is therefore not astonishing to see them host events with great aplomb and success over the last decade. The association is known not only for meticulous planning but also perfect execution and the annual May Queen Ball has been the true example for this. Contributions to the Gujarat Earthquake Victims through Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, Child Relief and You (CRY), a national level social-charitable body involved in the welfare of orphan children have been the twin organizations where the Goans have pitched in over the last few years. GWA have also supported social work carried out by Lar de St. Terezinha Orphanage home at Margao and also helped the institute in Cavelosim village functioning under Caritas which is sheltering orphan girls suffering from HIV. Simon said adding that they will continue helping social and good causes.

[Goanet] SCHOOLS DOES NOT NEED SECURITY MEN INSTEAD THEY CAN HAVE CCTV
TO, SCHOOL PRINCIPALS / HEADMISTRESS Today ( 28th Dec 2014), I read in all the local newspapers two contradictory news coming, one from Goa Police Dept where Principals and headmistress have attended the meet. Chairperson of the meet PI Prubhudesai advises all the schools to deploy armed security men in view of intrusion by Pakistanis or any other gang operating in Goa and at the same time an another news appeared today itself coming from a Defence Minister and ex-CM of Goa Mr Manohar Parrikar saying that future of Goa is very safe. Going through these reports especially from a Defence Minister, it appears that there is no need for any security men to be made available at the schools since these children being minor there can be an another problem if the security men themselves misbehaves with the children during the interval time. It is better that a CCTV may be appropriate to have in all the schools and the Principals can monitor the movement of children instead of having a security cover unless it becomes very essential in future. That could be another financial burden to schools. Stephen Dias D.Paula

[Goanet] WILL NaMo GET HIMSELF AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR NEW YEAR
Despite all that loud talk of e-governance surprisingly Prime Minister Narendra Modi though over seven months in office is yet to set up an email address on which the people could send him their grievances and concerns. People now can communicate with the Prime Minister only by post or fax. That much hyped “Interact with the PM” on the Prime Minister’s official website besides being very user unfriendly permits you to write up to only 500 characters which is around a mere 80 words. Today with the advanced technology, communication by email is the way forward. It should be the Prime Minister’s resolve to have in place before the onset of the New Year an email address on which the public could write to him. In this day and age to have to communicate by post or fax besides being very outdated also incurs expenditure and other logistic problems which could be avoided by being able to correspond through an email. Email has today become the most widely used medium of communication. Enabling the people to address their vows and views to the Prime Minister through an email would be a right step towards Narendra Modi’s promise of Good Governance with an open, accountable and people friendly administration. In the words of Narendra Modi “E-Governance to me is easy, effective and efficient governance”. Time to walk the talk, Mr. Prime Minister. Re: [Goanet] OVERCHARGING PATIENTS
Dear Jerry, Having visited the 'offices' of some of the doctors in Goa, I agree with your description of 'facilities'. Despite the allegedly high costs charged for Doctors' consultation, I really cannot classify these as Over Charging until I know what 'usual and customary charges' are for Goa. These depend on CPT codes as well as the locale of the practice eg. Velim v Panjim. BTW: depending upon what is required to be done at the review visit, the CPT codes ( and hence the charges) could be different at the review. Remember what you are also paying for is the TIME. I will not comment on the 50 Rs consult in Mumbai. Need more details including the name of the doctor..what he did, how long he spent with you etc. Allow me to place a few thoughts on the way forward for Goans and Goa: 1: Lobby the Dept of Public Health, the Medical Association and the Medical Council in Goa to ensure that ALL health facilities are inspected, certified and licensed annually. 2: Lobby the same entities to enforce the 'disabled access' for ALL medical facilities within (say) a period of 1 year. I have seen elderly patients walk up several flights of some really decrepit stairs to reach the offices of their doctor. 3: If the 'Check if the medicine works' review visit is a near-routine, something is off. However, unless one has detailed history (without names) one cannot comment. 4: Insist that your doctor has sufficient Medical Malpractice coverage. This is for the Medical Council to insist at the Annual re-Registration.but for Goans to lobby for. 5: Diligently follow-up cases where Negligence is suspected, understanding that NOT all alleged Negligence is Medical Negligence and that one's legal advice in Negligence matters in Goa may or may not be Optimum. 6: Practice Preventive Self-Care ie Do NOT Smoke, IF one wishes to drink alcohol, do so in extreme moderation, If one is non-veg, limit the amount of meat consumed, Avoid eating food at unhygienic eat houses and way-side stalls and Avoid stress.for a start 7: Yesall of us will need Medical attention at some point and time BUT Far Too Many Goans are visiting doctors, only NOT to be compliant with advice, and Far Too Many Goans are on all kinds of unprescribed medicines. jc Medicine, Law Medical Law. Yes, you have written various points and all as per your practice which does not happen otherwise. does it? All I know is that Drs do prescribe medicine for a patient, which for some reason or the other may not work on the patient. It could be a rare case, It could be a general case, no idea. Does that mean the patient has to go again to the doctor as a fresh patient? If you see the offices of some doctors here in Goa, its nothing but a plain room with lots of papers and a bed of course medicine which could be free samples from the pharmaceuticals. So what other over heads do they have that they charge the original fee for a follow up visit patient? As I had said earlier, indeed i was surprised that the doctors I visited in Mumbai, Mira Road charged me fees which would have been three time or four in Goa. As for shunning rogues, here in Goa the doctors are only known through other patients. There is no such directory to find out doctors in Goa. :), or people like to visit their own known doctor, who may charge exhorbidently, but at least a known doctor. Wish we had more doctors like you ie what I understand from your views posted below. Thank you and Pray, you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas. And these visits are without any receipts. RESPONSE: Dear Jerry, A few points : 1: As far as I am concerned, there is NO such thing as a free visit to a professional at his office. There, also, is NO such thing as a visit to check IF the medicine is working ! 2: In my own little practice, every evening I have a telephone conversation with that day's clients or the parents of minor patients. Re: [Goanet] STATEMENT ON JAITLEY RELATIVES USING NAVAL HELICOPTER APPEARS TO BE FALSE AS PER HIM.
Dear Stephen, In my opinion, why would a gentleman and well known Social Activist-cum-lawyer Aires Rodrigues stature take up falsehood in either maligning or marring the reputation of FM Arun Jaitley's wife and his daughter who attended a wedding especially flown by a naval helicopter from Dabolim Airport to the Five-star Lalit Golf Spa Resort at Canacona in South Goa, when it was apparent (Prima facie) that they arrived in Goa from Delhi on December 23 by Indigo Airlines, flight 6E-335 and then being flown by the said Naval helicopter to the said location, is this not hiding facts from the Truth or is it falsehood then facts? If the FM feels that he is telling a pure truth and justified in his statement as per his per se; that The news item is entirely false on three counts: Firstly, it was his wife and son (not his daughter) who were in Goa on 23rd December. Secondly, they did not use any governmental facility, least of all a naval helicopter. Thirdly, Manohar Pariikar, the Defence Minister, had not sanctioned the use of any Defence helicopter for them. In fact, since it was a purely a private visit, Manohar Parrikar was not even aware of the fact that they were in Goa. THEN ALL POSSIBLE INFORMATION MUST BE OBTAINED FROM THE STAFF AND OFFICIALS AT LALIT GOLF SPA RESORT HOTEL AT CANACONA, AS TO HOW ARUN JATLEY'S WIFE SANGEETA AND DAUGHTER SONALI /SON ARRIVED AT THE SAID RESORT either by road or Air? Getting hold of the above vital information from third party source may throw some light into the issue brewing or false allegations spilling over to malign-whom only time can tell with meticulous-spade-work, so as to veto further damage and mar the reputation of the well known and reputed social activist-cum-lawyer Aires Rodrigues of Goa once and for all. ALSO IF THERE IS ANY PERSON /S WHO HAS LITERALLY SEEN THE WIFE AND DAUGHTER /SON OF HON'BLE FM ARUN JATLEY'S BEEN FLOWN FROM DABOLIM AIRPORT BY NAVAL HELICOPTER TO LALIT GOLF SPA RESORT AT CANACONA, SHOULD COME FORWARD WITH DUE INFORMATION WITHOUT ANY FEAR WHATSOEVER, WHEREBY REST ASSURED TRUE JUSTICE CAN BE DONE AND SEE THIS DOES NOT OCCUR HENCE FORTH. Prakash Kamat The petitioner, a social activist and lawyer, alleged that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's family used a Navy copter to attend a wedding while in Goa. Goa-based social activist and lawyer Aires Rodrigues on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order an inquiry into an alleged misuse in Goa of a naval helicopter by the family of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. In a complaint faxed to the Prime Minister, the activist has pointed out that Arun Jaitley?s wife Sangeeta and daughter Sonali who arrived in Goa from Delhi on December 23 by the Indigo flight 6E-335 on a private visit to attend a wedding were flown by a naval helicopter from Dabolim airport to the five-star Lalit Golf Spa Resort at Canacona in South Goa. Alleging that this misuse of the naval copter was at the instance of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and was clearly a gross abuse of power and an unnecessary burden on the Exchequer, Mr. Rodrigues has stated that it was also contrary to the government?s mantra of good governance and high probity in public life. Stating that those in power are expected to be sincere custodians of the State and should under no circumstances abuse and misuse their authority, Mr. Rodrigues has sought the Prime Minister?s immediate intervention and prompt action in the matter. Mr. Rodrigues has further demanded that the Government must recover from Mr. Jaitley the undue expenditure incurred in ferrying his wife and daughter by that naval copter. *Nandy and Saha sign for Sporting Clube de Goa * Sporting Clube de Goa reinforced their squad ahead of their opening Federation Cup match, by signing experienced goalkeeper Sandip Nandy and left wing back Biswajit Saha, at the SCG Headquarters in Panjim on Sunday. Biswajit joined from Atletico de Kolkata with whom he helped win the ISL tournament, while Sandip was part of the Kerala Blasters side which finished as runners up in the same competition. Despite tasting glory recently, Biswajit is very hungry to do well and is willing to put in the hard work and discipline needed to hold down a first team place. “I came to Sporting Clube de Goa because of the fantastic facilities and I am fully motivated to succeed here,” remarked the 27 year old Biswajit. [Goanet] ARUN JAITLEY FINDS HIMSELF CORNERED
The official records now show that the helicopter which on December 23rd had ferried Arun Jaitley’s kin from Goa’s Dabolim airport to that five star resort at Canacona in South Goa to attend a wedding was owned by that Lalit Suri Resort. That the helipad at the Resort was an unauthorized and illegal structure is another issue. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley besides being a very Senior Advocate is also a former Law Minister and should have known to uphold the Law. His demand for my apology is outrageous to say the least. Would rather combat Arun Jaitley head on in Court as his gross abuse and misuse of power being blatant cannot be condoned. Arun Jaitley owes a public apology as to how his kin were privileged to such a misuse of a helicopter for travelling from the Dabolim Airport to the Canacona Resort. Does this privilege come only once you are the Finance Minister of the country? Arun Jaitley’s family has visited Goa umpteen times earlier but never enjoyed such privilege of a copter ride. Shame on you, Arun Jaitley. It was expected that you would have stood tall from the rest of the rot with Good Governance being the epicenter and focal point of your functioning.
