[Goanet] JUSTICE TO BISMARQUE

2015-11-23 Thread Stephen Dias
DEAR OSCAR MARTINS,

READ THIS WELL WRITTEN LETTER OF DR FRANCISCO COLACO AND TELL YOUR FRIENDS
 TO READ .
HEMA HAS BEEN PRESSURIZED TO WRITE BY TIMBLO GROUP AND THE GOAN IS PAID FOR
THAT.
YOU ALL COCKEYED WHO ARE JUST SPREADING DESTRUCTIVE RUMOURS.
COLACO LETTER WAS PUBLISHED IN ALL THE PAPERS. AND HATS OFF TO HIM..
I THINK CHURCH AND POLITICIANS PAID YOU GUYS ALSO TO SPREAD RUMOURS AND TO
BRING BAD IMAGE TO BISMARQUE?
GOD ONLY WILL TAKE CARE OF THOSE WHO ARE BEHAVING IN THIS MANNER FOR A
BRIBE.
WHEN HUNDRED OF GOANS HAVE TAKEN A PEACEFUL PROTEST AND YOU VERY FEW GUYS
HAVE DIFFERENCE OF OPINION ON BISMARQUE IS SAD. LET THE INQUIRY IS OVER AND
YOU ALL WILL BE EXPOSED. VERY SOON.
DO YOU THINK ALL THE HUNDRED PROTESTERS ARE MAD AND YOU FEW GUYS ARE
INTELLIGENT?

Sub: Portraying Fr. Bismarque wrongly

In the wake of Fr. Bismarque’s tragic death and the Government’s callous
attitude in refusing to carry out a serious investigation to find out the
real cause of the mishap from day one, we have to admire the dogged
determination of hundreds of his fans who have vowed not to rest silent
until a serious investigation is carried out (despite the fact that a lot
of precious clues have been almost deliberately wiped out).
Notwithstanding that, it is rather shameful that one of our daily
newspapers with a shoddy investigation seems bent on leading everyone off
the track. To add insult to injury it has now published an interview with a
renowned singer which makes a mockery of Fr. Bismarque. The singer has the
audacity to say that “Bismarque was being used by people to pursue their
own agenda”. Nothing could be further from the truth. Further, with an
“I know- it-all” attitude she reveals that he was suffering from depression
from which he apparently never came out. One would even see words, cleverly
couched, that would imply that he might have ended his life in despair and
she (the singer) was the only one who held the keys of his destiny and the
wherewithal to rescue Bismarque.
I must confess that when Fr. Bimarque met me at my clinic, two months
before his tragic death, he first gifted me the Pope’s gem of a book
“Laudato Si”. Then, as we talked at length he appeared lively, cheerful and
confident of himself and of his goals in life.

We would be most ill-informed if we pay attention to the perorations of one
person and confine him within a restricted mould. He may not have been a
rock star, but in the eyes of his fans who campaigned with him till the
last moment (whether there was a lingering trace of depression or not) he
was a master of himself, full of confidence and always committed to a
cause. Peace be to his soul and justice to a man who allegedly was done
away as he had proven to be a hurdle to one too many.

Dr. Francisco Colaço

[Goanet] Activists and investigators

2015-11-23 Thread Cecil Pinto
Derek Almeida’s column Footlose in The Goan Everyday
22nd November 2015

-

Jumping to conclusions

The superintendent of police was enjoying a nightcap when the phone rang.
On the other end was a nervy constable. “Sir the body of a very important
activist in the community was discovered floating in a rivulet….”

“It’s 10 in the night Tuemkar,” the SP said. He was irritated. “Couldn’t
you have discovered it in the morning, after 10?”

“Sir, this is a very urgent matter,” the nervy constable said. He sounded
very nervy. “His supporters are here at the police station. They say he was
murdered. What should I do? Should I start the investigation?”

“What’s your gut feeling?” the SP asked.

“Looks like drowning, but right now his supporters have threatened to bash
me up on Facebook if I do not register the case as murder,” Tuemkar said.
He was frightened.

After much thought the SP said, “Tuemkar, this is a very big case. We can’t
do this the old fashioned way. We need an out-of-the-box approach. I think
we should call the Save Goa Samiti. Let them investigate the case.”

“Who are these people sir,” the constable asked, “do they have any
experience in investigations?”

“The Save Goa Samiti is an NGO,” the SP said, “their strength is that they
do not have any experience in investigation. They will jump to
conclusions and save us the time required for a thorough probe.”

“They might ruin the case sir,” the nervy constable said.

“Arre baba, if we do not let them investigate, they will make life hell for
us. They will take out candle-lit processions, call press conferences,
petition the chief minister, hold morchas and what not,” the SP explained.

So a call was made a representative of the Save Goa Samiti, a fellow by the
name of Savio came on the line. “It is murder,” he yelled.

“Good, good,” the SP replied, “I like people who make up their minds
quickly, without even taking a look at the body.”

Two days later the forensic experts sent in their report and Savio met the
SP at the morgue. “The report says death was due to drowning,” the SP told
him.

“That is impossible,” Savio said, “I contacted all my friends and all of
them confirm that it was murder….”

“Were they present at the murder site?” the SP asked.

“Is that important?” Savio asked, “we are conducting this investigation
through Whatsapp, where we reinforce one another’s opinion and always
arrive at the same conclusion that he was murdered. You must conduct a
second autopsy.”

A day later the second forensic report arrived and the SP called Savio.
“The second autopsy report also says death was due to drowning. It also
states that no injuries were noticed on the body.”

“Have your forensic experts gone mad?” Savio yelled. “Can’t they understand
that the man was murdered?”

“It there are no injuries on the body and there is water in his lungs and
the only witnesses to the incident said he went in the water for a swim and
never came back, how was he murdered?” the SP asked.

“How the hell should I know?” Savio yelled. “That is your job. And your job
is to investigate the case and ensure that your conclusion is the same as
ours.”

“But there is no evidence of murder,” the SP shouted.

“Then we’ll conduct a third autopsy,” Savio said, “and this time we will
conduct it.”

A day later Savio was at the SPs office. “Were your findings any different
from that of the forensic experts?” the SP asked him.

Savio gave him a sheepish look. “I couldn’t identify the body because I
don’t know what the chap looks like.”

“What now?” the SP asked.

Despite this setback Savio was undeterred. “I have a demand,” he told the
SP, “we will stop our candle-lit agitation only if the case is handed to
an officer without a high conviction rate. He must be supervised by the
human rights commission, which must be supervised by a high court judge,
who must be supervised by a supreme court judge, who must be supervised by
a judge from the international court of justice at The Hague ……”

“That would be difficult,” the SP said, “Why don’t we just hand it over to
the crime branch?”

“I’ll settle for that,” said Savio, “because I am tired of molten wax
dripping on my fingers.”

[Goanet] IN GOA: Festival of student films from FTII

2015-11-23 Thread Frederick FN Noronha फ्रेड्रिक नोरोन्या *فريدريك نورونيا
PRESS NOTE:

RETRACING FREEDOM
Festival of student films from FTII

Set up in 1961 with the aim of promoting good alternative cinema and
setting new standards in filmmaking, both aesthetically and technically,
FTII has provided free space for thinking and learning to generations of
would be filmmakers. FTII has constantly endeavored to set critical
benchmarks for the film industry, while nourishing it with highly qualified
professionals who are specialized in various aspects of filmmaking. FTII
resonates proudly in the halls of world cinema with its sensitive
understanding of life and film as a post-industrial art practice. Along
with the National Film Archives of India (NFAI), the Films Division (FD)
and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), FTII has played a
crucial role in the creation, preservation and propagation of our
cross-cultural heritage through the medium of cinema.

The works of the students have been showcased and recognized at almost all
possible national and international platforms, festivals and forums
including CANNES, VENICE, BERLIN, and other film festivals of all hues and
colors. This has been possible due to the spirit of non-conformist ideas,
encouraged & nourished by filmmakers, faculty and artists for over five
decades .It has helped steer FTII to a position, which is independent of
any particular political affiliation, thought or world view. This unique
place has to be respected, preserved and nourished.

In event of the bizarre scenario of the students section being cancelled
from this edition of the ongoing International Film Festival of India
(IFFI), we feel it is pertinent to screen a package of films made by
students of FTII .The package represents a wide variety of student work
which proudly reflects the plurality of FTII’s artistic expression and
aspiration. Along with the student works, the two-day festival will also
screen films made by some ex –students who returned their national award
recently in solidarity with the brave and spirited struggle of FTII
students against the dubious appointments made at the FTII society by the
Ministry of I&B.

This festival is another step towards reclaiming our freedom of thought and
artistic expression that is under relentless attack currently across the
country. We invite the delegates & filmmakers attending IFFI and film
bazaar along with the students, artists, activists, lawyers, journalists
and public of Goa to join us for screenings and discussions over the next
two days to find out about the concerns and engagements of students of the
premiere institution of film education not just in the country but all of
Asia.

Re: [Goanet] HEMA SARDESSAI STATEMENT IN THE GOAN TODAY 23.11.2015

2015-11-23 Thread Stephen Dias
On Hema Statement in The Goan today 23.11.2015 I would like to add in my
earlier message for the investigating detectives.

I have  my three reasoning;

One is if Bismarque has taken pills he never went out of control nor
against his senses. He was always with one intention that to SAVE GOA from
the bad elements who are trying to sell Goa, Land and damage to
environment.

Second is anybody found in his possession such drugs or anybody is aware
of it?

Third which psychiatrist doctor he has been consulted? And if YES what was
the treatment. And how long this treatment was going on. Any other tablets
other than psychiatry was prescribed?

I have my first cousin who is Goa state winning award received from Goa
Government.recently in the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall. Great Theatre
personality Mr. Tomazinho Cardozo was present during the award ceremony.and
he knows him well. My cousin is now on psychiatry drugs because he could
not play after that, his guitar , violin and piano well. He told me that
he misses some notes while playing and after taking drugs prescribed by
psychiatrist he has gone worst and cannot keep on track the songs and music
which he used to play in Theatre , Dramas and in churches. He has almost
stopped playing. Physically he has gone completely weak and thin. So,
Bimmarque has no such signs of this kind,. We see him everywhere that he
played his guitar and sung songs very well. Therefore the theory of him
consuming psychiatric drugs as per Hema Sardessai is out of contest.

[Goanet] PANJIMITES DEMAND MILITARY LAND TO RETURN

2015-11-23 Thread Stephen Dias
-

PARRIKAR MUST GIVE PANJIM ITS DUE

BY: Stephen Dias, Dona Paula

.

It has been reported in a section of Press that CCP proposes to reclaim
5250 sq.m Military Hospital land situated opposite to Kala Academy Campal.

Earlier instances CCP Mayors tried their level best to get into the
possession of area about 10643 sq.m of land by the 2 signal Training centre
headquarters which was supposed to be utilized for a Multi-storage pay
parking complex in the city.

Instead of getting back Goa land Parrikar is giving land in Quepem for
exhibition.

So, it is high time that the defence forces are shown their true place as
they occupy their own niche, why make people of Panjim suffer when these
armed forces stationed in Goa has huge tracks of land in Bambolim, Merces,
Nerul, Vasco, Dabolim, Navelim, etc etc; and we in Panjim are suffering
acutely due to parking problem, garbage, casino menace, and also now
military intrusion. Recently I am in receipt of a letter from MLA of Panjim
Sidharth Kunkolienkar and he is unwittingly supporting them, telling me
that the defence forces plays an important role in securing our Country
from adverse forces. He says that they are the ones who keep vigil on our
borders forces to ensure that he and I can sleep peacefully. He even
mentioned that it is an insult to our martyrs like Colonel Santosh Mahadik
who recently dies fighting terrorists.

. Also he says that he is in constant touch with officials from 2 Signals
corps to arrive an amicable solution but mere rhetoric in media does not
help the cause.

I mean to say that for their contribution, if any, they get lots of taxes
exemption, privileges, and facilities for free medical and Hospital
expenses, land etc etc.

Today, these men have fought for their own benefits and got One Rank One
Pension (OROP). They have insulted us and Mr. Manohar Parrikar Defence
Minister of India, in particular by burning their medals.

Perhaps Sidharth doesn’t seem to realize the sacrifices put by us (the
civilians of India and Goa), which has made the generation next and these
armed forces have a comfortable living, and get due compensation in terms
of salary, perks and other facilities which we as Senior Citizens do not
get, once we are retired. Do scientists, professors, doctors, engineers,
and even priests like Fr. Bismarque of Goa doing civil services get free
or subsidized alcohol, free medical Hospital treatment, free housing in
defence colonies, once we are kick out? We have to fend for ourselves and
people may not recognize our services. Civilians have lost their arms,
their eyes, their legs, and I particularly quote about my own wife who
worked on pollution and detecting mercury poisoning in laboratory analyses
on polluted waters in Goa. She worked in Chemistry department also as
scientist in NIO, and only I have to look after her on her paralytic
conditions, people have lost their lives on field visits during research
survey projects. Many professors have been disfigured by chemical explosion
while conducting research activities. It is not a case, few soldiers
suffering tragedy; it is hundreds of scientists, who suffer unrecognized.
They get no medal, so they cannot burn them even if they wish to and insult
the country,.

Our dear Fr. Bismarque did more than a soldier for Goa and the country,
but sadly let alone India even Goans will not celebrate his martyrdom. Do
we recognize the contribution of Prof Dabolkar, Prof Kalburgi, Prof
Pansare, and others who laid down their lives for achieving a rational,
enlighten India.

It is high time that Sidharth take out his focus from military men and also
give due recognition to scientific community and others who are victims in
the cause of development of the country. If India has gone to Mars,
if India has gone to Antartica, and if India has come up in the green,
white, blue and pink revolution it is the hard work of these non glorified
men, called scientists, professors, engineers, and priests etc.

Panjimites are day by day getting into a serious traffic parking problems
and Parrikar now; he knows that it is not that easy to shift Military
establishments from Panjim and elsewhere from Goa.

When Parrikar was in the Opposition he was vociferous to demand earlier
from Congress Defence Minister A.K. Antony to vacate the entire military
establishment from Goa and now he finds impossible?

Will Parrikar give Panjmites its due as his birthday gift?

[Goanet] GITP Press Note on Project GEIT: 23-Nov-2015

2015-11-23 Thread Goa IT Professionals
*160+ recipients marked in** Bcc** from Goan Press and Media
community*

*GITP’s Diwali Vacation Camp on Computer Programming successfully nearing
completion in 3 Goan village schools*
While the Goan authorities are pre-occupied with organizing IFFI, the
Project GEIT (Goans Empowered with Information Technology) by Goa IT
Professionals (GITP) took a major step forward this Diwali vacation with
its 9-day Computer Programming camp for students of classes 6-9 in 3 Goan
village schools i.e. St. Bartholomew’s High School (Chorao, Tiswadi),
Azmane High School (Neura, Mandur, Tiswadi) and Dayanand Bandodkar High
School (Gokulde, Padi, Quepem). On an average 18, 20 and 60+ students
respectively in these schools are attending this camp daily during November
16-25 based on Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) computer
programming platform called SCRATCH especially designed for children. It
brings a world-class, hands-on exposure to computer technology to the
village children of Goa with the objective of converting them from
consumers to creators in the field of computer technology. It also helps
shift the children’s focus to the creative, learning and productive aspects
of the computer and internet technology world instead of the negative
aspects like pornography that they unfortunately got exposed to via the
disastrous school Tablets scheme by the Goa government few years ago.

This camp proves a key point that Goans and their well-wishers can help
Goans in Goa without any dependence on the state government as explained
hereon. With barely 1 and 5 PCs respectively working in 2 of these 3
schools, our Project GEIT team had to reach out to Goan IT experts for a
solution. Anay Kamat proposed using the micro-computer Raspberry Pi2 kits
to replace the dead CPUs (Central Processing Unit of a PC) in these schools
which were then procured from an authorised dealer in Kerala with funding
from the Goan and well-wisher community. Additionally few other Goans
donated their old laptops and hardware. As a result 12 dead PCs where
revived making it possible for the students to get hands-on learning
experience with SCRATCH. Due to other priorities and exams when the
originally expected volunteers from National Institute of Technology, Govt.
Engineering College and Goa University became unavailable for this camp our
Project GEIT team sent out an SOS appeal for volunteers and a number of
Goans and well-wishers, including those without any Computers background as
well as class 7-8 students from city schools, came forward to learn SCRATCH
within couple days and teach it to the village students at these 3 schools.
Additionally sessions on special topics like Astronomy & Mobile Apps, 3D
Printing, MIT’s App Inventor and Robotics have been organized under this
camp in these schools by volunteers from the Goan IT start-up community.
Towards the end of this camp Project GEIT team also plans to introduce
these students to the “Hour of Code” tutorial on computer programming which
takes it to another level altogether with its computer programming
exercises based on blockbuster animation movies, games and themes like
Frozen, Angry Birds, Minecraft etc. However this is at risk due to the
virtually non-existent broadband connectivity at most Goan village schools
despite the state government’s tall claims of fibre-optic broadband
connectivity to all Goan villages.

Students at these 3 schools have taken to computer programming like fish to
water. Not surprising given the existing Goa Education board’s boring and
clerical curriculum centred around Microsoft Office. The management teams
at each of these 3 schools have been very supportive of Project GEIT and
greatly contributed to the successfully organization and progress of this
camp so far. For a change they are noticing their students glued to the PCs
productively learning computer programming without being forced to.
Computer teachers at the Chorao and Neura schools are actively involved in
this camp and themselves learning and helping the students learn SCRATCH
programming.

Project GEIT team is sincerely grateful for the all-round support it has
received so far to make this camp a success proving a key point that Goans
and their well-wishers can themselves bring about a change and enable Goans
to prosper in Goa without waiting for the politicians and governments to
get their act together. Going forward Project GEIT will organize weekly
computer programming classes for these 3 schools culminating in a
state-level contest to be held in January 2016 with active support expected
from National Institute of Technology, Govt. Engineering College and Goa
University. By this year-end, Project GEIT will also provide a ready-to-use
and easy-to-implement template for all Goan schools to voluntarily
introduce simplified computer programming like* SCRATCH* and *Hour of Code* as
an extra-curricular activity in order to expand this community planned,
funded, organized, monitored and driven ini

[Goanet] Character assassination of Fr justifies death

CHARACTER ASSASSINATION EXPLANATION TO FR BISMARQUE DEMISE

“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are” ,” Give a
dog a bad name and then hang it” This explains the cause of death of Fr
Bismarque, The first autopsy report suggested drowning, not ingestion of
large quantities of alcohol as purported to be. The second autopsy under
pressure by a team of Doctors has reserved the cause of death until the
availability of viscera and finger prints results. The Govt. reluctantly
gave in for Crime Branch investigation after bloody evidence in the
vicinity. The reluctance after labored explanation that there are no
physical ante mortem injuries.nd discovery by private individuals past 12
days. Another oblique slant is his ideological, theological, religious
disagreement with the church and his congregation due to his seeking
election His voluntary abstaining his duty and function as a priest till
recently led to social misinterpretation, misunderstanding of willful
disobedience to his authorities, , thus raising intent of some personal
desperation. It appears to be perfectly justified, legitimate, when
ecclesiastical authorities are seen hobnobbing with Govt, Ministers and
even seeking understanding with Catholic Legislators with issues faced by
the church authorities. Then politics is pure and undefiled. What is
openly never emphasized, admitted is the opportunity that Fr refused for
his personal advancement, intellectual growth abroad even though it was
apparent of politely displacing him but he instead preferred to be
focused on his mission of social activities dear to his heart here in Goa
,rather than seek personal gratification., The brutal attack on peaceful
demonstrators of elderly, women and priest, carting them away to remote
Anjuna, Porvorim Police stations to inconvenience them is indication of
Govt, panic reaction of supporters to seek justice and answers to his
demise under mysterious circumstances. The chorus was going louder and Govt
thought of suppressing it with excessive and brutal force to terrorize the
determined followers hitting activist in transport vans. The selective
imposition of section 144 on demonstrators, not criminals sends much louder
message of religious intolerance to international audience of repression
of fundamental, democratic rights. Detention of women and ladies beyond 6
.p.m is unlawful Detention of Kariawado admirers at Cortalim ,as far away
from the venue of protest is deliberate strategy to weaken the resolve for
justice.

Eminent writers, intellectuals, social activists , who worked with Fr and
knew and interacted with him personally have debunked the slant of being a
tippler of sort and they have no axe to grind, Founder of warriors group,
Joe D Souza, Teotonio D Souza have fearlessly refuted the character
assassination of Fr., Nand Kumar Kamat is all praise for dogged
determination and intimate consultation with him on social issues of great
significance of environment and other social causes. Hema Sardessai has
further corroborated the focus of his social activities, constant
interaction with him, her support both physical, ideological was extended
to him in a gesture of goodwill and appreciation. She said and it is
expected that a normal person can be mentally disoriented under pressure,
but Fr was neither a recluse nor mentally unstable. Fr Michael in his
charactersitic open style has fearlessly espoused his cause and pointed to
the fault lines, lack of support and understanding of his persona The late
clarifiaction was apoor response too late. Ignoring, isolation are means
of silent mental torture to break the resolve and publicly disown, treating
as social , religious untouchable.

The police in its inquires, investigations have been found to be woefully
wanting in systematic, scientific approach, The police giving credence,
believing the fabricated, planned case of drowning under intoxication is
too simplistic and undr instructions from above The people have never
believed the cause of death, They feel he was earlier drugged, stunned and
then drowned, He was mislead into going to the site, entering water past
midnight at such odd hours, No one in their right minds wants to accept Fr
keeping company to the extent portrayed with some unknown ,shady characters
without plausible , justifiable reasons Fr was always present with
distinguished persons of repute, fighting various issues of relevance, In
his effort he had created enemies with Govt, builders, real estate
developers and was seen as thorn in the flesh There is no doubt that Fr
in his unexplained demise will be more inspiring.

[Goanet] WILL MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT BE SHUNTED OUT FROM PANJIM BY PARRIKAR BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY?

2015-11-23 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Siddarth Kunkolienkar
MLA of Panjim

You know very well that earlier MLA Mr. Manohar Parrikar and ex-Mayors
tried their level best to get rid of all the military establishment
including Military Hospital area opposite Kala Academy existing in the
city of Panjim for the purpose of traffic congestion and be converted into
a parking system. They even said that once the approval from the centre is
received these areas will be converted into multi-storage parking.
With number of reminders to the Centre especially by ex-Mayor Surendra
Furtado who tried his level best to appraise the situation to our Parrikar
who became Defence Minister wrote several letters thinking that it will be
easy to get this request fulfilled, but surprisingly Manohar Parrikar
could not do it upto now on account of pressure from his Defence Ministry
and his colleagues in Delhi.
Goa is day by day getting into a serious traffic problems which he (
Parrikar) knows very well who could have knocked the doors of the Prime
Minister Narendra Modi to come for the rescue of Panjimites.
When our ex-MLA Parrikar used to fire his bullets to ex-Defence Minister
A.K. Antony in the Congress Government, now he himself realizes that it is
not an easy job to shift these establishment from Panjim.
When Sidarth Kiunkolienkar, became MLA of Panjim and being
close friend and advisor to Parrikar earlier times probably he could
convince to get this job done when Parrikar is still a Defence Minister.
Now, there are rumours that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may ask Parrikar
who is celebrating his 60 years of age by December this year, as his health
need rest to go back to Goa in his earlier capacity as he is required very
badly to solve many issues pending in Goa which has become a burden to
Parsekar.

put up for approval in the next CCP ordinary meeting. The civic body is

Apart from the area at Campal, the CCP has already written to the defence

Bismarque Placed Goa Before Self by Dr. Joe D'Souza

“Dead men tell no tales, so did Bismarque, as he lay on the trolley of the
G.M.C morgue in the morning of 8th Nov, 2015. I could hardly believe that
it was the bloated body of Bismarque. I was staring at, while the doctors
were preparing themselves for the second autopsy. The face was shady black,
the chest yellowish brown, the skull had ruffled hair far between, the arms
had bruises and the waist below covered with a cloth.

What disturbed me the most; he appeared snarling at me, with 20 of his
teeth projecting outwards as his lips were gone and his tongue distended.
He laid still and his eyes seemed lost against the dark background. Speak
up Bismarque I seem to prod him on but he continued to show me his teeth as
his smile was gone forever. Those common friends amongst Goans, who were
associated with Bismarque, know too well that he was always a man in a
hurry; together we fought for Goa's ecology, environment and it's
sustainable usage.

Me, being now close to seventies, was much subdue in the zeal, passion and
fevour in the projects we undertook. As I was unable to keep pace with him,
I used to implore him to go a bit slow. We did work together on issues and
projects, but am relieved that he was a frequent visitor to my home and
often together devising his plans of action. Miss Swati Kerkar, Loretti
Pinto, Adv. Yatish Naik, Judith Almeida, and a litany of environment
activists drew inspirations from his dedicated approach. Any involvement
out of his special regard towards me did help me to connect with other
activists.

The famous Goan artist Loretti was requested by Bismarque to prepare
drawings and publish a book on the environment scenario in Goa. I
desperately hope a sketch book on the state and the status of Goan ecology
and environment sees the light of the day with a strong willed Goan taking
up this challenge-surely , I will place in my bit for this cause-a
pictorial book on Goa and its traditional people, dedicated to Bismarque.

Being a person, who had won Bismarque's confidence, I will share with the
readers some of the ups and downs in Bismarque's life. Bismarque
appreciated academic lifestyle, he swore that he wanted to be a Professor
and be in my shoes. He had invitations to several universities and
institutions in USA and Europe, but he told me, by the time he completes
his doctorate abroad Goa would be gone. In no uncertain terms he told me he
wanted to be a grass root worker on people's issues and thus preferred to
practice instead of teaching and preaching.

Sadly, those in authority over him as a priest preferred Bismarque to
concentrate on his religious duties instead of associating himself on
issues concerning politics and social relevance. We had many meetings
together before he ventured to stand up for the 2012, Goa Assembly
Elections and Wilson Valadares, the Sarpanch of Carambolim is the witness
to our secret visit to New Delhi to apprise the Congress high command about
the growing corruption in the Congress in Goa and the need to bring in
fresh blood to uplift the sagging then Congress image; ridden in loot &
plunder.

Needless to elaborate, the Congress High Command only realized their folly,
after the 2012 drubbing but it was too late and Bismarque had to go it all
alone, with friends standing by him in his support. The people of Cumbarjua
did support him as an independent it wasn't enough to match the muscle &
money power of the opponents. John Pinto from Siridao who was his advisor
cum election agent and myself were struggling to show Bismarque assets to
the Election Commission as he had near zero bank account and Mario Dias his
younger brother did have to help in, to give Bismarque some financial
muscle, to enable him to do decent campaigning and the people responded
positively; slowly but surely.

While on field trips to Vanxim Island for instance, we were pained to
learn that the property belonging to the Church was sold to a builder, who
in turn sold it to mega international group from Bangalore. Bismarque knew
Vanxim was being converted into a Sin City If the readers of this article
care to read my past articles on the Vanxim betrayal and on Bismarque's
love for Goa in 2011 & 2012, printed in local dailies, one can get the gist
of this warriors grit, commitment and focus. We all know the phrase, give a
dog a bad name and shoot it. Somehow I fear that those in power and whose
voices matter, are trying to waylay the Goan public by tamely suggesting
that it was a simple drowning incidence that stifled life out of Bismarque.
This indeed is a grave injustice to a man who sacrificed his all for the
cause of Goa and the Goans. We all know well about the battles Bismarque
fought at Tiracol, Tuem, Vagator, St.Estevam, Bambolim, Siridao, Carmona,
Kharivaddo, Quepem and

right thinking citizens. Such acts by the Police should not be repeated
moreso on peaceful protesters who having done nothing wrong, nor a crime or
an offense or any disorderly situation that warrants police arrest.*

*A day shall come to pass if the Police don’t behave themselves in public
to guard the peoples safety rather act with high handedness and arrest
people on flimsy grounds or for no fault of theirs then they may have to
pay a heavy price if the situation goes out of hand. Is this is not Jungle
Raj.*

*Mind you, if tomorrow things go bad Goa. A Paris like situation could
prevail and Goa Police would be first at the receiving end with Politicians
dead on sight.*

[Goanet] call list

2015-11-23 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
Goa the Beautiful -

India's Favorite Call Girl

Some people might find the title offensive and in bad taste: there is no
reason for it.

Global terrorism has impacted big and small, far and near places and Goa is
no exception. As it is not easy in this age to move large amounts of black
money - a misnomer - as this money sparkles more than champagne and
glitters brighter than gold, people have to find new ways to waltz around
the issue. And, Goa is India's femme fatale.

Our governments for decades now have been kind to looters, a signage of our
society, ethics and level of spirituality? They allow looters the privilege
of keeping for themselves 60% and at times 70% of unpaid tax or undeclared
wealth if they decide to turn over a new leaf and declare their undeclared
wealth by a particular date. Our culture has no problem with this approach
of rewarding looters, and it appears to me, the majority of Indians see it
as a compassionate act on the part of our governments, then and now. Why
have strict tax laws which we have to enforce unpleasantly when it can be
done in this ingenious and compassionate way? On important matters Congress
Party and BJP appear to agree on the same solution to a problem. Are they
really one and the same party?

For people who have managed to waltz around the issue of returning to the
government some of the loot, Goa is one big garden where they can plant
their unaccounted and invisible money trees. With a parallel economy of
black money within India it is as simple and easy as boarding a train to
Goa although most looters prefer to fly and stay in expensive hotels.
Perfectly understandable.

Make in India might become a good incentive to bring back a lot of the
black money as there is cheap labour and also cheap land available in
India. The garden of Eden is no longer in the Middle East but has moved to
our Goa. Aren't we lucky?

Black money immaculately dry cleaned at various places on land and some say
on water too - casinos - is going to make the Indian tiger take a big leap
over the much slower moving Chinese panda.

Make in India, however, is possible only if the Indian government can
provide cheap land to global players. Only cheap, qualified labour which is
also available in several so-called third world countries is not enough. It
should be easier to do business in India to make a bigger impact on the
Indian economy. Land is obviously vital and so the great importance of the
land acquisition bill. And, yes, political stability too.

Recent incidents of communal violence is not making India's image look good
abroad, and our record since Independence has taken another hit.
International governments and businessmen might do a rethink on investing
in India. We need to be careful for it might not be possible to put the
genie back into the bottle. Foreigners, as well as expatriate Indians, are
also unwilling to work and live in India unless this country becomes much
cleaner.

Goa is the great call girl whom India and the world is more than willing to
bed, and maybe even wed … albeit with a few conditions!
