Congrats to my fellow cuncolkar bhau Ravi Vaz for organismic the Goan
convention in London
and for thinking out of the box along with such dedicated London-based
Goans like Eddie Fernandes, Selma Carvalho and Alvaro Colaco to name a
few besides Careen Miranda.
The convention was not a run of the mill event like those held in the
Gulf countries
and sunrise of surprises none of he gulf-based leaders were to share
the sunlight which they did for the last coup[le of years
Hopefully the agenda set at the convention and the road map for Goa
will be taken to its logical conclusions

[Goanet] NRI -TAX RETURN

2011-07-26 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
July 31st is the last date for filing your Indian Income Tax
returnfor
the financial year 2010-2011. If you are a Non Resident Indian (NRI)
and
are looking at the best way to file your tax returns, here is a quick guide
on various options, including
e-filing.
This guide will also help you understand if you need to file a return in the
first place.

Who should file returns?
If you are an NRI , you would
have to file your income tax returns for 2010-2011 if you fulfill either of
these conditions:
- Your taxable income in
Indiaduring the year
2010-2011 was above the basic exemption limit of Rs 1.6 lakh
OR
- You have earned short-term or long-term capital gains from sale of any
investments or assets, even if the gains are less than the basic exemption
limit.

Note: The enhanced exemption limit for senior citizens and women is
applicable only to residents and not to non-residents.

Are there any exceptions?
Yes, there are two exceptions:
- If your taxable income consisted only of investment income (interest)
and/or capital gains
income and if tax has been deducted at source from such income, you do not
have to file your
tax returns.
- If you earned long term capital gains from the sale of equity shares or
equity mutual funds, you do not have to pay any tax and therefore you do not
have to include that in your tax return

Tip: You may also file a tax return if you have to claim a refund. This may
happen where the tax deducted at source is more than the actual tax
liability. Suppose your taxable income for the year was below Rs 1.6 lakh
but the bank deducted tax at source on your interest amount, you can claim a
refund by filing your tax return. Another instance is when you have a
capital loss that can be set-off against capital gains. Tax may have been
deducted at source on the capital gains, but you can set-off (or
carryforward) capital loss against the gain and lower your actual tax
liability. In such cases, you would need to file a tax return.

By when to file returns?
The last date to file returns for the financial year 2010-2011 is July 31st
2011. However, remember thefollowing:
- If you do not have any tax payable (that is all your tax has been deducted
at source), you can still file your tax return by 31st March 2012 without
any penalties.
- If you do have tax payable, you can still file your returns by 31st March
2012 but you will be
charged an interest of 1% per month for every month of delay starting from
31st July 2011 till
the time you file your tax returns.
- If you do not file your tax returns even by the 31st of March 2010, you
may be charged a penalty of Rs 5,000 for every year of delay.

What's the best way to file returns?
Traditionally, you could file your return either by giving a power of
attorney to someone in India or by sending your form and documents to a tax
expert in India who would then file returns on your behalf.

But nowadays, the easiest option for NRIs to file their Indian tax returns
is by using the online platform. There are several options to file online.

Option 1: Income tax website
The income tax website allows you to efile your return. But the process
maybe a bit cumbersome. Youwould need to download a software, fill in your
details and upload an XML file. You would then need toprint and send a copy
of the acknowledgement (known as ITR-V) to the tax office in
Bangalorewithin
30days.

You can do this for free.

Option 2: End-to-end online
Some online service providers offer a more user friendly experience, for a
fee of course.

Taxsmile.com for instance has preferred partners in various countries
including US, UK
and
Australia. Explains Bala Balaguru, President of Athreya Inc,
taxsmile.com's preferred partner for North America, "For a fee of USD 69, an
individual tax payer will be able to file his tax return completely
online. This fee includes a digital signature of 1 year validity. You would
need to send a notarized copy of youraddress proof and photo ID to Athreya's
office and we will create your account within 3 days. "

In addition to Income tax return preparation, the package also allows you to
resolve up to 10 tax related queries as well as get the prepared return
reviewed by taxsmile's tax professionals.

Athreya also offers a package without the digital signature in which case
you would need to sign the ITR-V and courier it to the income tax office in
Bangalore. This package however does not come with any support from tax
professionals.

Another website elagaan.com also offers a similar service for NRIs. Says
Naveen Kumar, Co-founder of elagaan.com, "Elagaan.com offers an end to end
solution with digital signature being optional. If you choose not to tak

City based clubs ideal for Indian football

Margao: The days of the institutional Indian football clubs are well
and truly numbered. The writing is on the wall is clear – either
renovate to the changing times or die a slow death, says Saby Antao, a
former Goan former footballer now based in the US and who holds a
Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

“These company owned clubs are not a viable option for the development
of Indian Football. Company clubs is only a viable option if they make
the club a city club funded by two owners or single owner. The company
is a brand and if the club is named after the company there is no fan
base because not everyone wants to link themselves with the company. A
city is a place that everyone belongs to and can attach themselves
too,” said Antao, who played for Salcete Football and Mahindra United
Mumbai and also represented the state team at the Santosh Trophy
national championship and for India Under-16 team.

"Regards to JCT, and Mahindra closing it was long due. I feel teams
like Air India, even Salgaocar and Dempo are going to shut shop in due
time. It is very difficult to run a club with no revenues coming in.
In Europe to the clubs are losing money but the they get loans to

[Goanet] PREVIEW REPORT OF INDIA VS UAE

2011-07-27 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
India have Home Advantage, UAE an edge

It’s Advantage India. They play at Home -- at the Ambedkar Stadium,
which is their “fortress.”

It’s Advantage UAE. They enjoy a three-goal cushion, which by Team
India Coach Armando Colaco’s confession “is hard to overturn.”

Nevertheless, as Colaco pointed out, “India have little option but to
go all out in the second-leg.” UAE won’t mind that. They would just be
looking to catch India off-guard on the counter-attack as an away-goal
will realistically seal the deal for them and ring exit-bells for
India.

Colaco stays aware of that. “We need to attack but our defence needs
to stay composed. At any stage, we can never afford to concede,” he
added.

Team India have been hit hard by the suspensions of Debabrata Roy and
Subrata Pal. “Rahim Nabi had a great game in the first-leg. Being an
utility player, we will play him as the left-back. Clifford Miranda
will start in the left-half position,” Colaco informed.

“Harmanjot Khabra and Sandip Nandy are the replacements for the two
suspended players.”

“It’s a tough mountain to climb,” Colaco maintained. “They are a
quality side. But we are ready for the challenge,” he said. Captain
Climax

Lawrence added: “Everything is possible in football.” The fans would
take inspiration from Climax’s statement for sure.

UAE’s Slovenian Coach Srecko Katanec said they stay aware of “India’s
style of play.”

“I am aware they would hit us hard in the first 15 minutes. But
sustaining the same momentum is tough in modern football.”

With requests for tickers coming in from all quarters there would be
no dearth of support for Team India in their “fortress.” Two
sentiments unite the team at the moment: 1. This time it’s 11 vs 11.
2. Let’s win it for Subrata and Debabrata.

In the meantime, the recent downpour in the Capital prompts everyone
to look upto the skies. Forecasts suggest the heavens may open up
again on Thursday.

The kick-off is at 7pm.

India’s Starting XI: Karanjit Singh; Samir Naik, Gourmangi Singh, Raju
Gaikwad, Rahim Nabi; Steven Dias, Mehtab Hossain, Climax Lawrence,
Clifford Miranda; Sunil Chhetri & Jeje Lalpeklua.

Short, Simple and Direct

>From College Girls to Corporate Executives; from School Students to
even Housewives -- all braved the rain. Eventually, they were rewarded
as India came back from two-goals down to hold UAE 2-2 in World Cup
Qualifier at the Ambedkar Stadium.

The character and attitude of the new-look Team India promises much.
“The juniors are ready for the challenge,” maintains Armando Colaco,
and that’s prompted him to remark, “This is the beginning of a new era
in Indian football.”

“When I took over and dropped some seniors, many had raised their
eyebrows. But I knew what I was doing. You ought to give it to the
boys.”

The new style of stressing on possessional ball play cannot be
implemented overnight; especially after the National Team has had a
penchant for long aerial balls for the past few years.

“It will take time,” Armando insists. “Initially, the boys found it
hard to adapt. But they are enjoying the new style at the moment,” he
goes on. “I’d request all to look at our International Friendlies
against Maldives and Qatar. You’ll understand what I mean,” he added.

The match against Maldives which was Armando’s first as the National
Coach ended 1-1 and then India beat Qatar 2-1 in an away match at the
Al Sadd Stadium in Doha.

The cynics may frown from here on. In the World Cup Qualifiers, a
nine-man India went down 0-3 and then at Home, India drew 2-2. If only
one could remember, India’s defensive organisation for the last 66
minutes never allowed their rivals to outnumber them despite having a
two-man advantage.

“Indian football is on the right track,” Armando says. “In football 11
vs 11 is different; 9 vs 11 is different.” But as you speak to him,
you just cannot stop him from praising the U-23 boys to the hilt.
“They are the future of Indian football. I’m lucky to have such a good
mixture of youth and experience in my squad.”

A little more than a month may have passed by but India’s U-23
Pre-Olympic squad haven’t yet been able to overcome the debacle of
drawing 1-1 against Qatar, a match they should have won handsomely.
“Jeje is special; Dika (Lalrindika Ralte) is special; Raju (Gaikwad)
is special. The entire bunch is special,” Armando keeps it short and
simple, much like his coaching.

Let’s not forget the Jeje-s, the Dika-s, the Raju-s are all products
of All India Football Federation’s Youth Development Programme. Even
as the U-19 squad presently trains in Shandong for the Weifang Cup and
the U-16 squad leaves for the U-16 SAFF Championship, a whole new
bunch of future stars are being groomed all over. The Supply line is
getting ready.

Alemaos humbled
Jul 30th, 2011 | Category: Cover Story, Lead Story
By Rajan Narayan
The Alemaos were rebuffed by Sonia Gandhi who not only refused to to
review Valanka’s disqualification, but held out the threat that they
would lose the lucrative PWD and urban development portfolios.
IT ALL started with the Rajya Sabha election. With Shantaram Naik
completing his term of six years in the Rajya Sabha, the seat had
fallen vacant. I understand that the president of the Congress, Sonia
Gandhi, was very keen on nominating Luizinho Faleiro, general
secretary of the AICC in charge of the North East, as the Congress
candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. Apparently, Sonia Gandhi has
been very happy with Luizinho Faleiro’s performance in keeping
Congress governments intact in the North East and his efforts at
destabilising the CPM government in Manipur. The incumbent Minister
for the North East has been very ill for some time now and Sonia
Gandhi apparently had also decided to induct Luizinho Faleiro into the
cabinet as the Minister in charge of the North East. The only question
mark was whether it would be possible to get Luizinho Faleiro elected
to the Rajya Sabha from Goa.
HIGH COMMAND
THE moment the Congress High Command included Luizinho Faleiro’s name
in the list of probable candidates for the Rajya Sabha seat, I
understand that Churchill Alemao and company rushed to Delhi and
threatened to vote against Luizinho Faleiro. Alemao’s apprehension was
that if his bitter enemy Luizinho Faleiro was inducted into the
cabinet, he would have more power and may undermine his position in
the Navelim constituency. Digamber Kamat apparently had his own
reservations about Luizinho Faleiro being nominated to the Rajya
Sabha. Luizinho had made a lot of enemies when he was the chief
minister in Goa and it seemed increasingly difficult to get Luizinho
elected in the face of the BJP deciding to field a candidate and
openly inviting dissident Congress MLAs and its alliance partners to
defeat the Congress candidate. So, at the last moment, the Congress
High Command developed cold feet and decided to re-nominate Shantaram
Naik as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections.
COLD FEET
In the back drop, another drama was being played out. Out of the blue,
Valanka Alemao, who is a recent entrant into the Youth Congress as
against her rival Pratima Coutinho, the wife of former president of
the Margao Municipal Council Savio Coutinho, decided to throw her hat
into the ring for the post of the president of the Youth Congress. Not
because Valanka had any great interest in either the youth of Goa or
the Youth Congress, but because, traditionally, the Youth Congress
president has at least been able to stake a claim for an Assembly
ticket. The chances of Youth Congress presidents and office bearers
being nominated for Congress tickets not only for Legislative Assembly
elections, but even for Parliamentary elections has brightened after
Rahul Gandhi took over the reins of the Youth Congress. In fact, in
recent elections to state assemblies, several Youth Congress leaders
have been given tickets to contest Assembly elections and some of them
have even won Assembly elections and been inducted into the cabinets.
Unlike in the past, Rahul Gandhi had decided that office bearers of
the Youth Congress would be elected and not nominated. To ensure that
there would be no favoritism and that there would be no rigging of
elections, Rahul Gandhi had tied up with an NGO called Foundation for
Advanced Mangement of Elections (FAME) started by former Chief
Election Commissioner James Lyngdoh, who were entrusted with the
responsibility of deciding whether the aspiring candidates had
followed the correct procedure. One of the conditions laid down in the
hand book or code of conduct given to all prospective candidates who
aspire to the position of office bearers in the Youth Congress was
that they would not canvass with the party officials or the chief
minister and ministers or seek endorsement from Congress politicians
holding positions of power in the state. So much so, when Chief
Minister Digamber Kamat, along with other Congress leaders, endorsed
and recommended the candidature of Valanka to the post of Youth
Congress president, the authorities entrusted with conducting the poll
held her guilty of malpractice. Her case was referred to the NGO
headed by Lyngdoh. She was issued a show cause notice and asked why
she should not be disqualified from contesting the Youth Congress
elections.
The Youth Congress elections were scheduled for the same day as that
of the Rajya Sabha elections to nominate a member to the Rajya Sabha
from Goa. The Youth Congress High Command, essentially meaning Rahul
Gandhi, announced postponement of the elections.
DIPLOMATIC MOVE
This was a diplomatic move to ensure that the Alemao brothers would
behave themselves and that there would be no obstacle in getting the
Congress candidate Shantaram Naik elected to the Rajya Sabha. In the

MEE CHURCHILL (NOT WINSTON) BOLTOY by Dr. Oscar Rebello
Saturday - Jul 30, 2011
Friends, Goans and Congressmen (and BJP men as well, because if push
comes to shove, I may have to turn to you)
Permit me to introduce myself. (As if you all still didn’t know). I am
Goa’s premier STATE MAN. In many ways I’m responsible for the sorry
state of affairs in our state of Goa today, but then that’s the price
you pay for many of my sacrifices in political life.

I’ve sacrificed so much to serve you, my beloved people (or idiots
depending on your perspective). I sacrificed my trawlers for you; I
sacrificed my CM kodel in 15 days, in the PDF experiment (actually my
only genuine sacrifice but then who notices); I sacrificed Konkani for
English; I’ve sacrificed my friendship with Luizinho bab and my title
to GOD FATHER; I’ve sacrificed the Save Goa Front at the altar of
greed and avarice; I’ve sacrificed the punch-drunk and ideologically
retarded Congress party in Goa a number of times; I’ve sacrificed the
secret and hush – hush support of Goa’s biggest brains; Dr.Willy’s and
Manohar’s slush backing; I’ve sacrificed my family to serving Goa;
I’ve sacrificed Goa’s bridges and roads to shady, seedy contractors;
The list goes on.

With so much sacrificing they now should crown me the undisputed
QURBANI KING of Goa.

And what do I get for all my sacrifices? Betrayal! Dhoka!! A dagger in
my back! Churchill deserves better!

And now it’s time to show a fist to all the squealing pigs. I’m going
to show that Vijay the Sardesai! I’m going to show that upstart
Pratima Coutinho! I’m going to show that Digambar Kamat! I’m going to
show the High Command! I’m going to show that Low Command! I’m going
to show those Youth Congress brats! I’m even going to show that Mickey
Pacheco ( but not too much, since secretly I’m a little scared of him
).

With me around dear Goans, it’s always SHOWTIME in Goa. The theatre of
the absurd! The vaudeville act of high histrionics and abject
stupidity!

And what I love the most is that all you idiots oops friends keep
buying into the act! Again Again and Again.

So I don’t just resign to my fate. I just resign from this railway
platform called the Congress and like Arnold Schawerzenegger always
claim that “I’LL BE BACK”!

So then the question arises?

What is the secret of my success ? How do I and my family survive all
these monkey antics and keep getting re elected again and again by
thumping majorities.

Money may play a small role but the key reason I and those of my ilk
like Babush and Mickey and the rest succeed is because both the
principal parties in Goa, the bankrupt Congress and the opportunistic
BJP need us desperately to navigate the ruthless corridors of power.
We are simply indispensable knights on the chess board of Goan
politics.

The Congress despite an ideological doctrine most palatable to Goans –
one of pluralism, secularism and tolerance is so stuffed up and
dependent on rank mercenaries that the bigger your blackmailing power,
the lower the Congress will bend. So if a party that refuses to stand
by its own core beliefs succumbs to blackmail, almost on a daily
basis, what else do I do but become the biggest black mailer of them
all??

You think that Diggu Baba has remained CM so long because of his
leadership qualities: Balderdash!!. He has remained CM only because he
has so beautifully handled blackmail, elevating it to a fine art. (
that this could cost him his Margao seat is another matter altogether
)

And about the BJP the less said the better. Its ideology of division
revisionism and hatred is so repulsive and repugnant to Goans that
even polite frogs have stopped croaking. So they keep throwing us the
necessary life lines, every time the going gets tough for them. And
there’s no one quite like Manohar Parrikar who can defend the
indefensible with a straight face and arithmetic accuracy.

Therefore, my loyal Goans, until a party evolves in Goa, which has the
ideology of the Congress, is backed whole heartedly by the moral
oracles (a.k.a. activists ) and has the discipline, commitment and
genuine service qualities of the BJP cadre, we will always be kings
and family No.1.

And since that party is a Disney like fantastical dream which will
never come true, your goose is well and truly cooked.

(this type of an experiment has been forged by Mamta in West Bengal.
The ideology of the Congress, the backing of activists and the sort of
discipline of BJP cadres. And see how Mamta romped home).

For now read my lips! Churchill is Goa and Goa is Churchill and all
you fellows out there better get used to our kind of democracy which
will take the whole of Goa to hell but at least my scarifies won’t
have gone in vain.

Thank you, God bless and Viva Goem.

P.S. Also now forget Galgibaga and Talpona and Sinquetim, I’m off to
build another bridge to connect with Digambar Baba. I have to sink
that Vijay fellow this time at any cost!!!.

Bullfighting saved from the sword as Spain rules it is an artistic discipline

Socialist government says ministry of culture will be responsible for
development and protection of controversial sport

The debate over bullfighting has been reignited in Spain after the
government recognised the spectacle as "an artistic discipline and
cultural product", delighting enthusiasts but outraging animal rights
campaigners.

Prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's socialist government
announced that the ministry of culture will from now on be responsible
for the "development and protection" of bullfighting, which previously
fell within the remit of the interior ministry.

The move follows pressure from bullfighting organisations keen to
protect their livelihood following a controversial vote to ban
bullfighting in the Catalonia region last year.

The ministry of culture said in a statement: "As it is understood that
bullfighting is an artistic discipline and a cultural product, it was
considered that the ministry of culture was the correct place for its
development and protection."

Supporters, who see bullfighting as an integral part of Spain's
cultural identity, hope the announcement is a step towards protecting
the tradition from further regional bans.

Juan Diego, a matador speaking for the Bullfighters Union, welcomed
the announcement as necessary "for the protection and guardianship of
bullfighting", describing the sport as "a symbol of Spanish cultural
heritage that shapes the national identity".

The change was backed by the conservative Popular party (PP), in
opposition but favourite to win power in the general election on 20
November.

Miguel Cid Cebrián, chairman of the Parliamentary Bullfighting
Association, said he hoped the PP would provide legal protection for
bullfighting as a special "cultural interest" if it takes power, in
order to stop other regions outlawing the tradition.

Last year the regional government in Madrid announced it was awarding
bullfighting legal protection locally, because of its cultural
importance.

Opponents, who describe the practice as a barbaric bloodsport, accused
the government of abandoning a commitment to animal rights.

Silvia Barquero, spokeswoman for Pacma, an anti-bullfighting political
party, told newspaper Público the decision to switch responsibility
for bullfighting to the ministry of culture was "complete nonsense ...
a measure which sends us back to the Middle Ages".

Animal rights campaigners say bullfighting only survives because it is
subsidised by the Spanish taxpayer. Attendances are falling, its
appeal has faded among younger Spaniards and the industry has been hit
by the economic crisis. The number of bullfights taking place at local
fiestas has diminished as spending cuts have been enforced.

The Catalan regional government voted to ban bullfighting in the
northeastern region last July, by 68 votes to 55, with nine
abstentions, on the grounds it is cruel and outdated. The vote was
held after campaign group Prou! (Enough! in Catalan) collected 180,000
signatures in favour of a ban.

Anti-bullfighting organisations hope the Catalan example will be
copied in some of Spain's 16 other autonomous communities.

Critics of the ban said it was motivated more by Catalan nationalism
and a desire to assure political independence from Madrid than by a
genuine desire to outlaw the tradition.

The ban, which will come into effect next January and will not be
affected by Friday's decision, will be the first to be introduced in
mainland Spain. The Canary Islands outlawed bullfighting in 1991.

A poll last year for the newspaper El País found 60% of Spaniards did
not enjoy bullfighting, but 57% disagreed with the ban in Catalonia

[Goanet] Partnerships to rebuild Indian game

Dubai: While expectations from the Indian football team in
international assignments are not often sky high, the same cannot be
said of the man who occupies the hot seat of general secretary of the
All India Football Federation (AIFF). Little wonder then that Kushal
Das, the present incumbent who has held key corporate portfolios in
the past, admits that he has his hands full.

He was in Dubai to watch his national team take on the UAE in the
first of their World Cup qualifiers in Al Ain yesterday. Das of course
is no stranger to Dubai, having had a tenure with the International
Cricket Council (ICC) as their Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for two
years.

Ever since taking up this new assignment last October, Das has done
his bit towards brand building for the federation — building up a
public relations machinery as well as entering a strategic alliance
with IMG Reliance Group.

Speaking to Gulf News exclusively, he held court on various subjects —
ranging from Baichung Bhutia to the need for hardselling the game in
the country. Following are the excerpts:

Article continues below

Gulf News: What are your expectations from the World Cup qualifier
against the UAE?

Kushal Das: There are expectations, but at the same time we are not
unrealistic about our chances. The UAE team is a good side… what I am
looking at is a good performance. I am not looking at short-term
results but long-term goals.

Ever since the Asian Cup campaign in Doha at the beginning of the
year, we realised that the long ball game we were trying to adhere to
did not suit our style. We approached Armando Colaco — who took up the
challenge on a short-term basis — and I must admit that progress has
been made about the style of play. The victory against Qatar was a
remarkable one. Hence, I will be quite satisfied if I see a change in
style.

The controversy in the aftermath of the Asian Cup saw Bob Houghton
being removed as coach much ahead of his term and even Baichung Bhutia
being criticised for playing with an injury. In hindsight, do you
think the AIFF mishandled the issue?

Since we were playing the Asian Cup after 27 years, we did not want to
generate any negativity — neither did we publicly criticise the coach
for fielding players who were not fully fit. The technical committee
met later and we expressed our reservations to the coach.

The federation has named both the veterans, Bhutia and Rennedy Singh,
in the squad to tour England for the Pakistan matches. Is it some kind
of payback time for them in view of their contribution to Indian
football?

Well, not really. We have to acknowledge the contributions of both
Bhutia and Singh in Indian football. The squad which we were supposed
to have sent was essentially an under-23 team, but these two can play
the role of mentors.

This apart, Bhutia has an iconic presence not only in Indian football
but in south Asia. Both his and Singh's presence will help build up
the hype during the team's England tour.

Post-Asia Cup, do you think there could be a sense of hurt in Bhutia —
that of such negative publicity despite contributing so much for
Indian football?

Actually, we have never publicly criticised Bhutia for his form in
Doha. The reason why Colaco did not consider him in the build-up to
these qualifiers is purely on fitness grounds, and he himself has
acknowledged it. Once he proves his fitness and wants to carry on at
the international level, we may still consider him.

Over the last few years, there is money coming into Indian football.

Well, we haven't yet signed a new broadcast deal for the I-League, but
we have signed up a significant partnership with IMG Reliance. It's
not only a marketing deal but a strategic alliance under which they
are helping us in the restructuring of our calendar, infrastructure as
well as development programmes.

It's a very good partnership. When Zee terminated their partnership
last year, IMG came into the fray and we hope to build on the
relationship.

However, instances of Mahindras & JCT — two of the biggest corporate
houses — pulling out teams must be a bad advertisement for Indian
football…

I wasn't around when Mahindras disbanded the team but from what I had
gathered, they decided to shift their focus to something else. JCT's
reasons were of course largely financial and it didn't help that they
got relegated. We are not unduly worried at the pullout of these
teams, though it's rather unfortunate.

There is enough interest from new corporate houses, for example, the
Jindal Group, who are interested in forming a club. What they, of
course, want to see enough evidence of is that we have a plan in place
and that's what we are working on. The Indian youth today watch a lot
of football — though international and the EPL [English Premier
League] — and hence there is a market for the game.

The AIFF has been talking about an academy and centres of excellence.

[Goanet] Singham - Movie

2011-08-03 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
Singham - Movie has again put the Goa police under the scanner, the
movie has scenes from Colva Police station
please read the review from Bollywood Hangama.

The trend of atypical masala entertainers began all over again with
Wanted, which was effectively emulated by the super-successful
Dabangg. The larger-than-life hero knocks down 50 thugs and sends them
flying in the air with just one punch. He romances the heroine. Puts
his life at stake by catching the bull by the horns. Emerges
victorious in the finale... Come to think of it, the Indian audience
is starved for true-blue masala entertainers that were admired and
revered in the 1970s and 1980s. Oh, can we ever forget the serpentine
queues outside cinema halls to watch those movies, starring our fav
stars? With Singham, the Ajay Devgn - Rohit Shetty team goes back to
their roots; both started with action films, if you recall -- Phool
Aur Kaante and Zameen, respectively. Singham is one of those earthy,
traditional, uncomplicated masala movies that most of us grew up on.
The protagonist of Singham is not the desi version of James Bond, nor
is he any kind of a superhero.

Singham pays homage to the action films of 1970s, which was known for
the heroism, death-defying action sequences and pulse pounding
thrills. It's an acknowledgement to one of the most successful genres
of Bollywood -- action movies -- known for the trademark good versus
evil themes and well choreographed stunts. Unlike many films recently,
Singham revives memories of the bygone era that stressed on raw action
and was rich in fist-to-fist combat scenes. In fact, it has traces of
action that Ajay's father [Veeru Devgn] and Rohit's father [Shetty]
immortalized in their movies. But Singham is a film of today, hence
the stunts are extremely stylized and polished in keeping with the
times. It's raw power presented in a slick demeanor.

Since the time the first promo of Singham went on air, for some
strange reason, I've heard people calling it yet another adaptation of
Dabangg. The sole similarity between the two films is that both Salman
and Ajay wear uniforms in the film. Also, like Dabangg, it's a
hero-villain drama. But beyond these two factors, there's no
commonality actually. For those who aren't aware, Singham is the
remake of the Tamil hit Singam, a role made memorable by the towering
talent Suriya.

Singham works for varied reasons: The conflict between the protagonist
[Ajay] and antagonist [Prakash Raj], the high quality dramatic scenes,
the raw action and of course, it mirrors the viewpoint of the common
man on the rampant corruption, fraudulent politicians and spineless
goons. In short, Singham works as an entertainer, a complete package
and if I may say so, it's Rohit Shetty's best work so far.

The backdrop is Shivgad, a small village on the border of Maharashtra
and Goa. The film tells the story of an honest, diligent cop Bajirao
Singham [Ajay Devgn], who fights against injustice and prejudice using
his own ethics and principles. A sudden strike of destiny sets up
Singham against the powerful criminal/politician Jaykant Shikre
[Prakash Raj], challenging his morals and beliefs. Jaykant's powerful
planning and force makes Singham land up in the ruling city of Jaykant
Shikre, where he leaves no stone unturned to make Singham's life a
nightmare to live.

Singham's supportive girlfriend Kavya [Kajal Aggarwal] and his tryst
with late Rakesh Kadam's family [Sonali Kulkarni] makes him realize
the importance to bring a change in the system by eradicating the root
cause -- Jaykant Shikre -- by not going against the law of force, but
by being a powerful part of it.

Though a remake of a super-successful film, director Rohit Shetty
ensures that he keeps a tight rein on the writing of the film
throughout those 2 + hours. Oh yes, the hero is spotlessly white and
the villain, all black, but despite the fact that you know it all,
there's no boring or humdrum moment at all. In fact, the drama and
also the execution of the written material keeps you completely hooked
to the proceedings. Also, Rohit proves that he can deliver a masala
flick with as much ease and proficiency as he can deliver a slapstick
comic caper.

I'd like to make a special mention of the action scenes [designed by
Rohit Shetty and executed by Jai Singh]. At a time when most
film-makers opt for action directors from abroad for gadget-driven
thrills, Singham goes for the desi flavor and it works luminously. The
raw, hardcore action is easily amongst the high points of the movie.
On many occasions than one, you have your hearts in your mouths while
watching the scenes and what makes it really special is the fact that
Ajay has done those death-defying and hazardous stunts himself.

For any good versus evil film to click, it ought to have the
protagonist and the antagonist on the same podium. In Singham too,
it's not just the hero who's powerful and mighty; the villain is
equally ferocious. That's what makes the conflict all the

[Goanet] India win SAFF Championship

2011-12-11 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
 India defend title with ease

India 4 (Sunil Chhetri – 70th; Clifford Miranda – 77th; Jeje Lalpeklua
– 79th, Sushil Singh – 94th)
Beat

Afghanistan 0

NEW DELHI: A mind of steel! Great strikers have it; an ice-cool Sunil
Chhetri was, perhaps born with it.

With the colourful Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium celebrating India’s first
goal from the spot in the 70th minute, the referee ordered a retake.
The seven minutes of drama preceeding the kick had seen Afghanistan’s
goalkeeper Captain Hameedullah Yousufzari given marching orders and
Djelauldin Sharityar shown the yellow card.

With everyone in the crowd finding the time selfishly and suitable to
pray to the Almighty, the nerve of steel slotted it past the
goalkeeper for the second time. In the process, he set a new record by
scoring seven goals in a single edition of the SAFF Championship
surpassing IM Vijayan’s record of six goals in the 97 edition. India
were on the way and it opened the floodgates.

Seven minutes later in the 77th minute, Clifford Miranda made it 2-0.
And then Jeje Lalpeklua made it 3-0 in the 79th minute. Three goals in
a span of nine minutes sealed the fate of the match as India made full
use of their numerical superiority. Sushil Singh completed the rout in
the 94th minute.

India played with their mind; Afghanistan with their heart. In the
first half, Savio Medeira’s allowed the rivals to come to them. They
stayed content in not opening their goalmouth, not being rattled by
the territorial domination of the Afghans in the first half. They
preferred to wait for the second half – after all the game is all
about 90 minutes.

The walk back to the dressing room at the interval was most
significant. The plan of not conceding any till the interval had been
accomplished by then. It was time to counter-attack. The rest, by now
is history. The march is surely on. It was the perfect Sunday night
for India.

India: Karanjit Singh (GK); Syed Rahim Nabi, Mahesh Gawli, Gouramangi
Singh, Nirmal Chettri; Clifford Miranda (Lalrindika Ralte), Climax
Lawrence (C), Rocus Lamare, Anthony Periera (Steven Dias – 70th);
Sunil Chhetri (Sushil Kumar – 81st), Jeje Lalpekhlua.

Immediately after announcing his retirement from International Football,
Mahesh Gawli spoke about his exploits with Team India. He spoke at length
about his tenure with the National squad, the memories, his teammates, the
next ‘big’ defenders and what forced him to the decision. Excerpts:

*What forces you to this decision?*

Football is a demanding sport. I have played at the highest level for 14-15
years and once you play for your country, you need to achieve continuously.
I feel I’ve had enough of International Football. From my personal side, I
feel I’ve achieved quite a lot and it’s time for me to stop now and focus
entirely on club football. I have consulted my family and it’s an unanimous
decision.

*What has been your best moment while playing for India?*

For me each and every match which I played for India has been a cherished
moment. After all, not all get a chance to represent your country. I’ve
been a member of many winning squads but the triumph in the AFC Challenge
Cup has to stay on the top of the list. Besides, representation in the 2011
Asian Cup is something which I will carry all throughout with me.

I need to focus on club football and I want to be playing at the top level
for another minimum five-six years.

*Has there been any change in the state of Indian football when you first
joined the National squad and now?*

A lot! The football played nowadays is entirely different. The present lot
is a more confident unit who understands the value of holding onto the
ball. Earlier, the primary focus stayed in clearing the ball. Nowadays,
there’s more constructive play. The mind stays pre-dominant in the brand of
football we play now. The attitude and the fitness of the players have
improved leaps and bounds.

Off the field, I’d say at present there are a lot of sponsors which is a
healthy sign. The players get better facilities to stay and eat – that
wasn’t the case earlier. Moreover, the amount of exposure tours has only
added to our confidence.

*Asked to take a pick, who would you pick as your best partner as a
stopper-back. Also, who do you consider as the most dangerous Indian
forward?*

Robert Fernandes is one from whom I’ve learnt a lot. He stays one of my
personal favourite as a partner in defence. And there’s Deepak Mondal. We
spent four years at the TFA and later on partnered each other in defence.
The telepathy between us was amazing. He has always been a class act.

Speaking of forwards, there’s always a certain IM Vijayan and a Bhaichung
Bhutia. They always made the task difficult for defenders.

*A defender, despite all his versatility doesn’t necessarily become a star.
How do you explain that?*

It’s a trend world over. But within the team, a defender is looked up to
the most even by the ‘biggest star.’ The sport is about 11 players –
there’s a star in every department. I have no regrets in what I have
achieved. Over the years, my teammates and coaches have understood my value
– that’s one of my most prized possession.

OLD GOA: Unleashing a mass of facts to prove that almost 70% of Goa
has been finished in the last 50 years by Goa's 'corrupt politicians',
Fr Eremita Rebello has cautioned all baptized Catholics, asking them
not to associate themselves with such elements by going with them from
house to house seeking votes.

Rebello, a diocesan priest, who has championed the cause of several
social issues in the past, is the vice-postulator for the
beatification of Blessed Joseph Vaz and is also in-charge of the
Khuris Milagr (Miraculous Cross) church, over the Boa Vista hillock,
at Old Goa.

He was delivering his homily in front of a large congregation at the
Se Cathedral, on the occasion of the feast of the Khuris Milagr on
Thursday.

Reminding the faithful that Jesus cried on seeing the destruction of
Jerusalem, the three warnings that are said to have been received atop
the Boa Vista hillock between 1560-1619 were indicators of the
destruction that later took place, he said. "The Portuguese royals
(Fidalgos) were living an immoral life in the Old City of Goa. Since
they did not mend their ways even after persistent pleadings by St
Francis Xavier, there was an apparition of Jesus in the year 1619 on a
wooden cross planted by some shepherd boys over the Boa Vista hillock.
This was soon followed by the destruction of the city of Old Goa,"
said Fr Rebello. Continuing further, he said, "Jesus came into this
world to establish the kingdom of God where truth and justice
prevails. Look at the scenario today. We have turned our backs to God
and willingly embraced Satan and his kingdom," said Fr Rebello.
Remarking that some of the baptized politicians are involved in
monumental corruption, he sought to know, where are the vows they made
on their baptism day. "They should remember that divine wrath will
strike them at the appropriate time, since there is no pardon for such
transgressions, and even sponsoring of pilgrimages to Vailankanni and
Shirdi will in no way wipe off their misdeeds."

The main celebrant for the feast mass at 10 am was Fr Valerian Vaz,
Director of Caritas, Goa, along with nine other concelebrants. The
feast mass was preceded by two more masses at 7am and 8.15am.

Wayne Noronha aspired to be a medic and served society but fate has played a
cruel twist on this 17-year-old from Cuncolim village in Goa, India. He
aspired to heal the wounded and alleviate the sufferings of others but
instead he is dependent on others and is force fed.

Wayne has been fighting for his life unaware of the happenings around him.
>From April, the youngster has been in a coma, apparently from an anti-rabies
dose gone wrong.

No one is for sure at the moment the factors which forced Wayne into a coma.
For the moment, the parents and his dear and near ones are not concerned to
go deeper to unravel the mystery behind his sickness, all of them want is
that their beloved Wayne comes back into consciousness.

They have no time to dig deep into the medical case history.

For the records, Wayne was a bitten by a stray dog in Veroda Cuncolim in the
last week of March while on an evening stroll. To be on the safer side,
Wayne was admistered five of the six anti-rabies injections. There were no
problem till that time, but after the sixth one Wayne slipped into
unconsciousness and has since not recovered.

Since then, Wayne parents has hip hopped from one hospital to other in Goa
and Mumbai, with the hope that Wayne will start talking to them and become
normal.

For Wayne his first stop in Goa was a private hospital and after having
spent a considerable amount of time he was shifted to Goa Medical College
(GMC). Doctors at GMC were unwilling to tell the near and dear ones the
exact cause of Wayne sickness.

By the time Wayne was air lifted to Mumbai the toxin had spread into his
body and it was not certain to pin point the reasons for the current state
Wayne is in.

Wayne is still on a road of recovery and still in a Mumbai hospital since
April, but there is hope round the corner, he responds to sounds, but the
recovery process is a slow one.

Besides the mental agony, the Noronha’s have been drained financially in a
paying the huge medical bills and are pinning their hopes in prayers and
blessings.

FIFA Technical Team visits Pailan

It’s not all about Lionel Messi, his Argentinean teammates and the
Venezuelan squad who are in Kolkata for the International Friendly at the
Salt Lake Stadium. Much against the background of the historic match, a
two-member FIFA Technical Committee team inspected the Pailan World School
on Friday morning with the intention of providing Technical Expertise for an
Elite Academy.

Thierry Regenass, Director Member Associations and Development Vision, FIFA,
and Jean-Michel Benezet, Technical Director, FIFA, who were taken around by
Pailan Group Chairman Apruba Saha, went back impressed with what they saw.

“The facilities are quite wonderful. The best part stays they are all within
the same campus,” Regenass told www.the-aiff.com. “The grounds are fine and
there are is a swimming pool and a gymnasium, so much essential in such a
set-up,” he added. “However, we need to work on more practice pitches.”

The two Officials also went around in the kitchen and seemed impressed with
the hygiene. The duo also inspected the Hostel rooms.

“Education is an integral part in the growth of a budding footballer. The
best part of the Pailan stays they already have a school within the campus.
Intelligence defines a footballer. So we can never neglect the education
front,” Benezet maintained.

“FIFA would provide the Technical Expertise to the Academies,” Regenass
stressed. “We would sit down with the All India Football Federation and
chalk out plans sometime next week. We will also visit other cities and then
take a decision. We are here to build the base.”

Benezet added: “We will also concentrate on Education of Coaches while
working simultaneously at the Grassroots.”

The two Officials also spent some time with the Pailan Arrows Players who
are presently having their pre-season training at the School-campus.

AIFF-FIFA to set up Academies

Following the visit of the two-member FIFA Technical Team comprising of Mr.
Thierry Regenass, Director Member Associations and Development Vision, FIFA,
and Mr. Jean-Michel Benezet, Technical Director, FIFA, the All India
Football Federation with FIFA’s guidance and support have finalised plans
for setting up Regional Academies and an Elite Academy.

In Phase 1 of the Project, four Regional Academies would be set up in
Bangalore (Goal Project), Kolkata (Pailan World School), Mumbai/Navi Mumbai
and Delhi/NCR by March 31, 2012.

In case the Sikkim Goal Project is fully operational by the end of this
year, it may also be added in the first phase itself.

In the next phase -- by March 2013, Academies have been planned in Chennai,
Chandigarh and Kerala.

The Goa Technical Centre which currently is used as a Training Centre for
the U-16 and U-19 National Teams will continue for the time being but once
the other Academies are in place, there is a plan to convert the same into
another Regional Academy.

Each Academy will house between 30-35 boys who will be selected from the
grassroot level in the age group of 13-14 after a scouting process from
various football schools and school leagues across the country and a
selection camp. FIFA is helping in setting up the guidelines for this
scouting process.

Various football schools across the country will be reviewed by the
AIFF for certification as a preferred place for scouting talent for the
Regional Academies. The final selection will be done by a team consisting of
the Technical Director, Academy Manager and Head Coach, Youth Development --
Mr. Colm Toal.

All the selected boys will undergo a two-year stint in the Regional Academy
where accommodation, food and education will be fully covered by the AIFF.
Accordingly, the AIFF will be looking for schools which have residential and
playing facilities in the various regions.

Boys from the age group of 16 will be selected from the Regional
Academies for the Elite Academy, the location of which is yet to be
finalised.

The tenure in the Elite Academy will be for two years (till the age of 18)
from where the boys can move to various clubs after completing their
education.

The AIFF is also in the process of finalising the hiring of the Technical
Director, the Academy manager and various other staff related to the
Programme. The entire hiring process and selection of schools in Mumbai/Navi
Mumai and Delhi/NCR is expected to be completed by November 2011.

AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das said: “This is easily the most
important and crucial project undertaken by the AIFF in the last few
years. I’m confident that it will go a long way in taking Indian
football to a new level in a few years time.”

Mr. Das profusely thanked the FIFA Officials for taking out time to provide
guidance to this Programme and also the financial help and technical support
which FIFA has committed.

AIFF President Mr. Praful Patel enthusiastically welcomed this Programme
and assured his commitment to do whatever is necessary to ensure its
success. “The All India Football Federation will leave no stone unturned to
ensure success of this Project,” he said.

over by Mr. Praful Patel, the President of the All India Football
Federation which met at the Udyog Bhawan in New Delhi, took the
following important decisions on September 22, 2011.

The Committee approved the overall Grassroot and Youth Development
Programme which was created in conjunction with FIFA including setting
up of the four Regional Academies in Kolkata, Bangalore (Goal
Project), Delhi/NCR and Mumbai/Navi Mumbai.
The Committee also authorised Mr. Kushal Das, the General Secretary of
the AIFF to start negotiations with Rob Baan for the position of the
Technical Director.
The President also mentioned that India may make a bid for hosting the
2017 U-17 World Cup.
AIFF’s Marketing Partners IMG-Ril (who were part of the meeting for a
while) made their presentations on the Broadcasting Partners for the
forthcoming I-League. A likely announcement on the Telecast Rights
will be made by the end of the month. Around 70-75 matches are
supposed to be broadcast live as compared to the earlier 50 odd
matches.
The Committee authorised the Emergency Committee to take a decision on
the National Team Coach within the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Committee approved the increase in Total Prize Money in
I-League from Rs. 1.1 crore to Rs. 1.5 crore. The Commitee also
ratified Asian Football Confederation’s recommendations to setup an
I-League Committee which will have a representative from each of the
14 Clubs playing the I-League.
Besides, the Executive Committee ratified the decision of the
Emergency Committee of not relegating AIFF’s Developmental Team Pailan
Arrows from the I-League.
The Committee also ratified that I-League Players (other than foreign
players) cannot play more than 40 domestic club matches.
The AIFF also granted an annual sum of Rs. 50 lakh to be distributed
between the State Associations to organise Football Developmental
activity in their states. The decision for releasing such money would
be taken by the newly formed Committee for evaluating funding criteria
for the states in line with the Local League and Developmental
activities being carried out.
The dates and breaks for future tournaments stay as such:

I.    The Super Cup will be held at the Ambedkar Stadium
between Kingfisher East Bengal and Salgaocar SC on October 18, 2011.

II.   The I-League kicks-off at the Salt Lake Stadium on
October 22, 2011.

III. The SAFF Cup will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium in New Delhi from December 2 to 12, 2011. The Preparatory Camp
for the tournament will be held from November 21-30, 2011.  The
I-League won’t be given a break for the SAFF Cup and Clubs will be
playing 3 rounds without National Team Players.

IV. The Indian National Team would be travelling to
Johannesburg to play an International Friendly against South Africa in
the first week of January 2012.

V.   The National Camp for the AFC Challenge Cup which is the
gateway to the Asian Cup 2015 would be held from February 13-29, 2012.
In that case, the I-League would be given a break from February 13 to
23, 2012. The AFC Challenge Cup is slated to be held from March 3 to
22, 2012.

The Committee took the decision that in future all International
Matches concerning National Teams or Clubs must be under the aegis of
AIFF. The Committee also decided that it was important to honour the
Contractual Obligations with IMG-Ril whereby no third party agency
would be allowed to host such International Matches without the
explicit approval of AIFF and IMG-Ril.
The Committee also approved the regulations framed for hosting
International matches which comes  into effect immediately and which
will be circulated to all State Associations.
The Executive Committee also authorised the General Secretary to form

[Goanet] Media or FMCG industry?

2011-10-08 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
BY Prabhakar Timble
Mr Prabhakar Timble is an educationist and a legal expert. He has
served several educational institutions, especially as the Principal
of Government College at Quepem, Kare College of Law in Madgao as well
as couple of Management Institutes. He was also the State Election
Commissioner of Goa.

Apart from the danger of corruption eroding the vitals of media, the
other major issue is of alienation of both print and electronic media
to issues of rural Bharat, human interest stories and stories of
achievements in the field of science, technology, art, literature and
culture. These never find the front benches in media classrooms.
Is there anything in our country other than government, corruption and
politicians? The news wine served and realty shows dished by the media
at all times has made me an addict of stories of failure, make-believe
and defeat. I watch prime news and battles to hit the bed with
feelings of hopelessness and pessimism. Over my morning cup of tea, I
browse the newspaper headlines to start my day with moods of
depression and cynicism.
True, there is competition. We have learnt that competition brings
variety and heterogeneity. In the media world it is exactly the
opposite. It is perfect uniformity rather than diversity. The race is
to break the news first and later generate heat and darkness rather
than light. The game is to cut each other to size through rhetoric and
repartee and convert the discussion into a laughter show. Politics
dominates day in and day out sprinkled with news of film releases at
regular intervals. It seems that nothing else happens in this country.
The cameras are all focussed on New Delhi political heroes and
villains all the time. It is this and the satellite mode of
dissemination that makes such channels national. In reality, they are
all New Delhi local. The cameras would travel to other destinations
only during emergencies equivalent to a terror attack, natural
calamity or political football.
The overdoses of commercialisation are clearly visible. Whether it is
news or entertainment, the stamp of advertising companies and PR
industry is discernible. The commercial time is non-negotiable. The
time for the tangibles is what remains after commercial breaks and
could be sacrificed for more commerce.
On many occasions, I feel that the major news and follow up analysis
is to a large extent also paid and compensated by PR industry. Look at
how the media made the IPL Lalit Modi or time slots on Narendra Modi
to project a developed Gujarat. The 24 hour coverage provided to Anna
Hazare and the earlier show of Baba Ramdev. The grapevine tells me
that the very recent special story and its timing by NDTV and CNN-IBN
on mining in Goa and the grilling of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was
a PR industry supported event. The professionals, it seems were hired
by a north Goa politician also having roots in mining. This is not
saying that the stories are totally out of context. I am only
commenting on the timing and positioning of the same. Many times we
may be watching debates on TV as we watch a one-day cricket match not
knowing that both are fixed.
Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, the internationally acclaimed sarod maestro, in
his interview to a local channel in Goa bemoaned that the mind-sets of
the upper and the urban middle class are tuned to enjoy failures and
defeats of others. In a realty show, viewers relish how competitors
lose or are evicted and this mind-set of viewers is the main reason
for the success of such shows, the maestro lamented. Looking at the
conduct of our top national anchors, which later others emulate, we
can understand the tastes of the viewers. We enjoy when anchors put
the politicians in a tight spot, demand resignations on talk-shows,
give ultimatums to legislate and take commitments on policies. We also
relish when anchors attack the enforcing agencies and officials during
rescue operations as a result of terror attacks or natural calamities.
The time has come to be vocal on media corruption. Corruption of
legislators, public men, judicial officers and the private corporate
sector is undoubtedly a big issue. It is brought centre stage by
political parties and the media. However, everybody assumes that media
is a holy cow and there are hardly any ripples on the rampant
corruption in the media. The complaint against the government owned
media is that it hides more than it informs or conceals more than it
discloses. The private media suffers from the charge of selective
disclosure. The hold of the advertising companies and PR industry on
private is growing in geometric progression. It can be seen from news
bulletins, product launch events and other features in electronic
media and also the face of the front-page of our newspapers. The page
has almost become faceless in the journalistic sense.
The government does not take media corruption seriously and neither
the vocal civil society. This is largely because media provides the
needed publicity

Rustam Akramov’s heart still beats for India. A regular to India’s
matches in the AFC U-16 Qualifiers in Tashkent, Akramov, feels Indian
football has ‘taken off.’ In an exclusive interview with
www.the-aiff.com, Akramov elaborates as to how the attitude in Indian
football has changed. Excerpts:

What is Rustam Akramov doing these days?

I am working for the betterment of the Game as an AFC Technical
Committee Member besides being a FIFA-AFC Instructor and FIFA Adviser.
I have some responsibility, to give back something to the sport. I am
also working as the Director for the Uzbekistan Football Federation.

What has been your impression of the India U-16 squad in the AFC Qualifiers?

The boys have impressed me. They are a talented bunch and are a fit
unit. Some of the boys are good enough to go the distance. But they
need to move outside their country and play abroad.

What difference did you find between the bunch you coached and the
present bunch of the U-16 boys who made it to the AFC Final Phase?

I feel Indian football has taken off. Despite all the talent I had at
my disposal during my stint in India, the fighting spirit wasn’t
always there. To win a football match, you need to be aggressive and
have the right attitude. That’s why I had started boxing sessions for
the Indian Team during my tenure.

I reiterate, this present bunch of U-16 boys have the right attitude
to go forward. To win on the field, you need to be aggressive -- and
they are.

Where do you see Indian football in the next five years?

India is a Great Country which believes in the Philosophy of ‘Peace’
But on the football field, can you ever make peace. You just can’t.
That’s what was halting Indian Football. The U-16 boys need to improve
on some tactical aspects. But if they carry on with this fighting
spirit and other batches follow them, I tell you in the next five
years, the scenario of Asian Football can change. But I reiterate you
need to be tough on the field.

How much do you carry the memories of your stint with the Indian National Team?

Those were the best days of my Coaching period. I still remember the
names – Mandela (Basudeb Mondal) was a special talent as was Joe Paul
(Ancheri). Aqueel’s (Ansari) lungs had the power to run all over the
field while Bhutia (Bhaichung) and IM (Vijayan) and Pasha (Shabbir)
were always special. But if you asked me to pick-up one single
individual, I’d always go for Ajay Singh. He had the spirit and the
fighting power. I’d love to be in India again but my age doesn’t
permit me to stay outside my country.

Multi-lingual Roman Catholic priest Fransecu bids goodbye to Qatar

Doha Qatar: “The apostles, along with other followers of Jesus, meet
and elect Matthias to replace Judas as a member of The Twelve. On
Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends on them. The apostles hear a great
wind and witness "tongues of flames" descending on them, paralleling
Luke 3:16-17. Thereafter, the apostles have the miraculous power to
"speak in tongues" and when they address a crowd, each member of the
crowd hears their speech in his own native language.”
Peter and the apostles continue to preach, and Christianity continues
to grow. The apostles set out in different regions to propagate the
word of the Lord.

Turn to the present day era, you find many people having gained a
mastery over a host of languages. It easier said than done.

Only a few are gifted, one of them happens to be native Arabic
speaking Roman Catholic Priest Fransecu. The Beirut-born priest, who
served the catholic community in Qatar for the last three years, has
since bid farewell to the Christianity community of Qatar.
Qatar is the world richest country in the world. The gas-rich country
is home to a hundreds and thousands of expatriate workers who savoring
the fruits of the economic boom witnessed in the tiny nation.

Fransecu, besides Arabic and English was equally at ease speaking
different languages like Italian, French and Spanish. He also spoke
Portuguese.
A multi-talented personality as described by the parish priest of Our
Lady of Rosary church Qatar Fr Peter, the ever-smiling priest, has
completed specialized studies Church architecture in Rome, and he is
also a gifted musician as he knows to read and write music.

Qatar loss will surely be Beirut’s gain. Fransecu will be the vicar at
the Cathedral in Beirut.

[Goanet] COLM TOAL’S WARDS READY TO MAKE AN IMPACT in Qatar

2013-10-03 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
DOHA: India may not wear the favourites tag in their Group ahead of
the AFC U-19 Championship (Qualifiers) which kicks-off on Friday
(October 4, 2013) but they can surely roll back time to draw a lot of
inspiration from the fact that the present bunch had come agonisingly
close to qualifying in the Quarterfinals of the AFC U-16 Championships
last year in Tehran.

In a match they should have won, the Indian U-16 National Team
narrowly went down to eventual champions Uzbekistan, losing 2-3 in
their first Group D encounter where they later held Syria and China to
goalless and 2-2 draws respectively.

“It’s a tough Group no doubt and there is no denying that we are not
the favourites,” Toal told reporters at the Pre-Tournament Press
Conference here on Thursday (October 3, 2013).

“We haven’t played Qatar in the recent past and it would be an
interesting battle. They are a very good side and we have to put our
best foot forward. We have a young side with really good players who
have been doing well as a unit. Let’s hope for the best,” added Toal.

In a Group that boasts of FIFA U-20 World Cup quarterfinalists
Uzbekistan, hosts and 2012 AFC U-19 Championship Finalists Qatar,
Turkmenistan and Nepal, the Boys in Blue will have to put together a
string of good results which has been eluding them in spite of good
individual-match performances in the biennial continental meet.

“We have been very competitive in AFC Tournaments. We have had some
very good individual results but have failed to put together a series
of wins,” Toal told www.the-aiff.com.

“We will try to put together a series of good performances again over
the next ten days and there is no denying that it’s a tough group we
are in. We have to put our best foot forward,” he added.

The Indian U-19 Team, comprising of AIFF’s Elite Academy Boys based in
Goa, can take confidence from the fact that since February 2013 they
have been on an unbeaten run winning 23 Friendly matches out of 26.

Apart from outwitting I-League outfit Salgaocar, and Goan heavyweights
Vasco SC, the Boys impressed one and all last August with their
adventures in China where they beat the Chinese U-17 National Team to
a pulp scoring 10 goals in two Friendlies. This was part of their
Exposure Trip ahead of the all-important AFC meet. The Boys also held
Shanghai City Games U-19 Team to a 2-2 draw in the first match.

But certainly, AFC Qualifiers is a different ball game altogether and
Toal is aware of that.

“The fact that we have been doing well in the matches we have played
coming into the Tournament will give a Boys the confidence needed. But
AFC Qualifiers will be much tougher and competitive,” Toal maintained.

“Certainly results are not everything for age group teams but you
don’t have good players in a poor team. We have some very good players
which reflect that we are good as a Team too. Now we have to translate
that form here,” Toal stated.

India’s opponents and hosts Qatar, on the other hand, are on a high
after their 2-1 double at home against the Greece U-19 outfit last
week.

“We have had good Exposure Trips in Spain and Tunisia from July before
playing Greece at home last week,” Qatar Coach Felix Sanchez told
reporters here.

“We played the Spain U-19 Team in Spain apart for playing the
Australian U-19 side at the same venue. It was a great learning
experience for the Boys,” he added.

The match at the Al Arabi stadium kicks-off at 9:30 PM IST on Friday
(October 4, 2013).

[Goanet] Swiss of Goan origin comes searching for his roots

Swiss of Goan origin comes searching for his roots

October 13, 2013

TEAM HERALD
teamher...@herald-goa.com

PANJIM: While few foster children would actually care to trace their
roots, a Swiss of Goan origin is down in Goa to locate his biological
parents.
Manuel Aloysius Frick, 25, who was adopted as a tiny one year old by a
Swiss couple is looking for his parents after 24 years. Manuel,
presently working as a team leader with a multinational company in
Switzerland, has visited every authority in Goa and is in constant
touch with the private clinic where he was born, to gather details.
Luckily he identified the names of his biological parents whom he has
identified as Constantino Joaquim Afonso and Maria Santana and that
they lived in Chorao. However, beyond this, his three-week-stay in Goa
has not yielded any results.
“I neither have any other information about them nor updates. I
approached an adoption institution here which asked me to get records
from a local Church but I couldn’t. The clinic where I was born has
sought time to give details,” Manuel told Herald.
With just a fortnight to fly back to Switzerland, where he has to
resume work, Manuel says he will come back in search of them if this
trip turns futile. “My search will not be complete till I find my real
parents,” he resolved.
Manual recalled that it was at the age of seven years that his foster
family disclosed to him that he was adopted from a Goan couple. Since
then Manuel made a firm decision to locate his biological parents. “I
realized that I looked different from my other family members. We
would go to a restaurant and all eyes would be on us. In the beginning
it was not a good feeling but then I began ignoring people,” he added.
His foster parents and the two siblings who are also adopted, have
showered all their love and care on Manual of Goan parentage.
“I owe everything to my foster family. They have given me everything
in life,” he said while also claiming that the urge to see his
biological parents will always bring him to India.

Ideal Indian school lift Asian Schools trophy in Qatar

Doha, Qatar: Ideal Indian School rallied from behind to down MES
Indian School 2-1 to win the First Asian Schools football tournament
organised by Friends Circle Qatar in association with Fahad
International Events Management.

At Wakra Stadium on Friday, MES took the lead very early into the
match and where able to carry the cushion of the 1-0 lead into the
second half. After the lemon break, Ideal Indian School came back with
renewed ideas and a different game plan.

The change in tactics helped Ideal to secure the equalizer through a
spot kick conversion midway into the second half.

Goaded by the success of an equalizer, Ideal pressed hard for the
winner and succeeded in taking the lead.

MES went all out in search for the equalizer in the dying minutes of
the match, but Ideal held on to the lead till the end.

Azeem of Ideal Indian School won the man-of-the-match award, while
Bhavans School won the best disciplined team award in the seven-a-side
tournament which was attended by a large turnout from different Asian
communities.

Earlier, in the semi-final MES defeated Bangladesh School 2-1, while
Ideal edged past DMIS by an identical margin.

Schools run by Indian, Pakistan, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh management
group based in Qatar took part in the tournament which was played on a
league-cum-knockout basis.

The following schools took part in the one-day tournament: Pak Shama
School, BMHM Bangladesh School, Sri Lankan School, MES Indian School,
Ideal Indian School, DMIS School, Shanti Niketan School, Bhavan
School, DPS School and Birla Public School.

Organizer of the tournament William Fernandes said the tournament was
a big success and it was for the first time such a tournament has been
hosted here in Qatar exclusively for Asian schools.

“The management, physical education teachers and the students of the
schools taking part in the tournament were happy to take part in the
tournament were they were pitted against some of their Asian
counterparts. We hope to make it an annual event,” said William
Fernandes.

Another member of the organizing team Joao Dias said: “Students of
Asian schools get limited opportunities to take part in interschool
tournaments, so the Asian Interschool tournaments was yet another
exposure for some of the budding talented Asian footballers based in
Qatar. It also gave an opportunity for some of the players
participating in the tournament to network and build new friendships.

”Fahad Al Dosari, Chairman of the Fahad group of companies was the
Chief Guest, along with Muneera Al-Dosari, Special Guest, who gave
away the trophies and prizes.

[Goanet] Innovative stick a shot in the arm for Asian style of hocke

Innovative stick a shot in the arm for Asian style of hockey
By Armstrong Vaz

Eindhoven, Holland: Indian and Pakistan hockey was always about
skills but frequent sacking of coaches has done more harm than good
for the sub-continent teams. The two can regain their lost glory if
they move with a dedicated approach.

There is hope round the corner.

Fantastick, an innovative field hockey stick, especially developed
for 4 to 6 year-old children and goes by the brand name Sportivation,
is the magic wand which holds up hope for the sub-continent style of
dribbling hockey.

Learning the basic hockey techniques for children has been made
easier, more fun and more challenging, thanks in a large measure to an
innovative hockey stick 'Fantastick' launched in the Netherlands.

The Fantastick is an innovative field hockey stick, especially
developed for 4 to 6 year-old children and goes by the brand name
Sportivation.

The idea of the Fantastick was developed and started in 2009 by Dutch
duo of researcher Paulien Kok and former coach of the women's gold
medal winning hockey team, Marc Lammers. The concept has undergone
intensive research before the final product was launched in the market
this year.

"Field hockey is a difficult complex sport to learn especially for
children from 4 to 6 years of age. There was a need for an innovative
tool for young children to learn hockey in a fun way. Research was
carried out to determine whether the hockey stick that was designed,
the Fantastick, is more fun, easier and more challenging than the
regular hockey stick that is currently on the market for children from
4 to 5 years old. It was found that Fantastick is more fun, easier
and more challenging than the regular hockey stick," says 44-year-old
Kok, a former hockey played turned coach and a mother of three.

The Fantastick is developed and owned by Sportivation, a company founded by Kok.

Kok has many years' experience working on innovation in sports and
health. Following her studies Physiotherapy and Human Movement
Sciences, Kok worked for twelve years at the Netherlands Organisation
for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), initially doing research into
human product interaction. In the years following her work as a
researcher, Kok used this practical experience to start managing
projects.

Fantastick idea has been fine tuned over the years in some of the top
research labs and sports universities.

"Sportivation has worked together with Expertisecentrum
Bewegingstechnologie (ECBT), Haagse Hogeschool InnoSportNL,
InnoSportlab Sport en Beweeg! and ML Hockey Support in a project to
further develop the existing prototype of the Fantastick hockeystick
to a tested product ready to put on the market," Kok said while
speaking to a group of foreign journalists who were in the Netherlands
for a week long stay.

The ECBT tested the Fantastick with children aged from 4 to 5 years
old to find out Fantastick is a better choice for children than a
regular hockey stick.

"The success rate is much higher with this stick; the Fantastick is
great for introducing children to hockey. The Fantastick makes
learning basic hockey techniques easier, more fun and more
challenging. The basic grip is easier to teach through special forms
and signs. The dip in the hook, "the Smile", helps to take the ball
along during the dribble," says Kok.

The Fantastick comes in different sizes, colours and designs.

"The stick's size, weight and measurements fit 4-6 year-old children.
These measurements have been arrived at after extensive research. The
stick is available in four types and six sizes; 21", 24", 26", 27",
29" and 30"inches. Most hockey sticks in these small sizes are made
from wood. The Fantastick is made from glass fiber and carbon and is
therefore more durable," added Kok.

She said the stick is a perfect tool for children who want to master
the art of dribbling hockey, a brand which is popular with the Asian
sub-continent teams India and Pakistan, an artistic and delightful
one, but which is fading away.

"The Dribble Grip is a unique accessory to the Fantastick. Made out of
durable plastic it fits exactly on the Fantastick. The Dribble Grip
can be attached to the Fantastick when practising the Indian dribble.
In this way, keeping the right hand loosely over the stick (like a
small sleeve) is easy and fun to practice," she added.

"The stick is manufactured in Pakistan, the Dribble Grip is
manufactured in The Netherlands. The stick is sold in the Netherlands,
via de webshop www.fantastick-hockey.nl and via mail
i...@fantastick-hockey.nl. We are looking at the moment for
distributors in other countries," added Kok.

"While Brazilian and Portuguese nationals together number around 1,200

Portuguese origin from Goa," a report in Gulf Times, Qatar says.
But are we of Portuguese origin?
The Goans based in Qatar who have given information to the reporter
does not know even the basics of his genealogy and that of the
thousands of Indians (Sorry Indians of Portuguese origin) he has
mentioned in the report.
There are Goan mestiços (mixed blood, just like Anglo-Indians), but a
small minority still living in Goa, but to dub the entire Goan
population to be of Portuguese origin is jumping the gun by reporter
Ramesh Mathew.

"For these Goans, who support Brazil not only for their artistic brand
of football but also due to a “shared culture, food, music and more”,"
as most people are aware only a small minority of old-timers and a
small section of people from Goa speak Portuguese (the post Liberation
generation), the language spoken in Portugal and Brazil, but yet again
the reporter has gone ballistic in mentioning about shared culture,
food, music and more.
Agreed, many Goans were taken to work in Brazil to build churches in
the Latin American country by the Portuguese colonial masters, but
culture what culture do we share with Brazilians. I waiting for
someone like Goan historian Teotonio R. de Souza based in Lisbon to
throw more light on all the "shared" things mentioned in the report.

2014-07-15 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
http://armstrongvaz.blogspot.com/2014/07/dfb-development-plan-of-2000-germanys.html

DFB development plan of 2000 - Germany’s path to success in Brazil

Germany’s 2014 World Cup success has not come overnight. The national
team has been building towards this excellence since 2000, when it
could not advance from the group stage in the European tournament. The
result of the fall out was a development plan. A plan, which has had
been identifying and training athletic youngsters in 366 districts.
The system produced the wave of players in their mid-20’s who excelled
in Brazil.

The German system is important because there is a direct line from the
development plan of the German federation, DFB, and some of the
celebrity coaches from Germany plying their trade elsewhere.

Germany rarely needs a renewal not with three world cup won, but that
does not mean success will come on a platter, they had to work hard
for it. Germany’s surges ahead taking its core from the DFB program.

The wealthy national league, the Bundesliga, has kept most national
players at home, challenging the Spanish, English and Italian leagues
as the best in the world. Imports from Africa and Latin America and
Europe fill in spots on the German clubs, but good German players do
not rust away at home.

The Spanish ‘tiki taka’ style of play and their development plan was
touted as the best after their success in the last world Cup and with
Spanish clubs winning silverware in club competitions, now the focus
is on the German.

With DFB plan producing at full tilt none can stop the marauding Germans.

Wilred’s pulling out from the ten-team Goa Professional League (GPL), which

[Goanet] Disturbing trend emerges in Goan football

2014-08-06 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
Disturbing trend emerges in Goan football

Short-term player’s contracts rule the roost at Goa Professional League

Disturbing trend emerges in Goan football

Daulat Rodrigues, 28, is a ‘professional’ football player, hails from
Cuncolim and is due to play for one of the low-budgeted club in the Goa
Professional League (GPL). He will earn around two lakhs if agrees to sign
a four-month contract for the upcoming GPL event with one of the Goan club.

Daulat has a difficult choice, like many of the so called ‘professional’
football players of Goa, he either can opt for a full one-year contract or
a short four-month contract, the choice is his.

But does he have a choice? Certainly not say football officials who know a
thing or two about the murky behind the scenes which ail Goan football.

First and foremost the low-budget Goan clubs of GPL opt for short contracts
which help them to cut on the budget.

The clubs sole aim to play in the Goa-related league and tournaments. Gone
are the days when players used to get paid for the entire season. The trend
has since changed. It is good for the clubs but bad for the players,
especially for those who do not have much bargaining power (not in demand).

>From the club perspective paying a player for the entire season does not
make it a fit case for a perfect business model.

>From the sporting point also it does not make sense. Gone are the days when
Goan clubs use to be in high demand and used to be invited for football
tournaments in many parts of India. The list was endless, football
officials and players of yesterday years recall.

The nostalgic memories which players recall are those of the pre-National
League (now I-league) days when many all-India tournaments used to take
place all over the country. With the advent of the National League many a
tournaments have died a slow death as they either clashed with the League
or could not fit into the All India Football Federation calendar.

The Rovers Cup in Mumbai and several tournaments in South India, Goans were
in high demand.

Participation in these tournaments gave the clubs some revenue and mileage
for the players. But all that has been consigned to history for the time
being.

So the players are happy to ply their trade for two or four months and
happy with their pay packet. But the day part is that they rust for the
next eight months, a period when they are seen playing for their respective
village clubs in the highly popular Inter-village football tournaments.

According to GPL guidelines, a club has to register nine Non-amateur
players and their contract must be registered with the Goa Football
Association, while the rest of the players can be amateurs.

But is there a clause on the maximum and minimum months which specifies the
number of months a club can enter into a contract with a player is one of
the grey areas.

A number of clauses in the GPL need to be changed with the changing times
and it will be in the fitness of things that GFA appoint a committee to
study what can be done in the best interests of football and footballers
and revamp the rules where it is needed.

Football administrators owe the footballers a service and setting things
in order the off-field worries and caring for them should be the top
priority.

Baba Stephen,
This is a white wash or in other words fooling people,
People like Reginaldo may be opposed to Church -Hill coming to congress
But when Kumpar Luizinho has met him in two unofficial meeting and every
has been set and decided and he has taken Madame Sonia's nod, can anyone
stop it,
They have no care for the people, it is only people like you rant,
They know that BJP has dug their own grave and they have good chances of
bouncing back.
They have looted together and will combine to loot again, not harm in
saying that.
No wonder one does not become a millionaire and takes advantage of the
Volutnary Disclosure Scheme offered bu the central governemtn to convert
your ill-gotten wealth into white money.
and do you know how many apartments, these two kumpars have on the coastal
belt.
they have many, Churchill gives them to his players to stay but the more
cunning and suave one gives to his friends and relatives based outside
India when they come on holidays.
Some of his relatives and friends who came to his son's wedding were housed
in such apartments in benaulim and Cavelossim.
I know for sure as one of his relative was staying in Lotus apartments in
benaulim
The chors will continue to loot there is no doubt about it

Holy Ghost church or Holy Spirit church?, relying on Wikipedia is quite a
tricky thing.
The five Jesuit priests were proclaimed as Martyrs of Cuncolim but the
layman were ignored, can justice be done to them (layman) in the present
day era when as per your posting they were ignored for the then prevailing
rules. Cecil, as one of the person who has made a significant contribution
to Goa society, you, I think is in a position to make a strong case for the
honour of martyrdom for those ignored by the Catholic Church.

Endosulfan saga in Kerala --
Sunita Narain's editorial brings back the memories of suffering and the
struggle.

==
EDITORIAL: When battered people took on the pesticide industry
by Sunita Narain
==
Today, I want to tell you a true story of extraordinary courage. The past
week, I was in Kasaragod, a district in Kerala, splendid in beauty and with
abundant natural resources, but destroyed by the toxic chemical,
endosulfan. The pesticide was aerially sprayed over cashew plantations, for
some 20 years, in complete disregard of the fact that there is no
demarcation between plantations and human habitation in this area. It is
also a high rainfall region and so, the sprayed pesticide leached into the
ground and flowed downstream. The poison contaminated water, food and
ultimately harmed human beings.

This story is known. But the personal battles that make up the story of
this poisoned land and its diseased people are not known. More importantly,
it is not asked where this story ends?

Leelakumari Amma is the original heroine of this plot. In early 1990s, she
came to Kasaragod, ironically, as an agriculture scientist, whose job was
to push farmers to use pesticides. Her brother died mysteriously while she
was building her house. But she did not connect the dots and moved in, only
to realise that the pesticide spray was poisoning her land and water. Fish
she put in her well died. She could not open the windows of her house for
days when the helicopter sprayed poison. It eemed a thick cloud was hanging
over her house. She could not breathe and worried about her children. Then
she noticed that many people living close to her seemed diseased? children
were born with deformities and severe neurological problems afflicted
people.

Leelakumari Amma petitioned for help. But received threats from the
Plantation Corporation of Kerala (PCK)?the public sector company, which
owned the cashew lands. In 1998, she filed a case in the local court. The
threats became more venomous. But she did not give up. In 2000, the court
ordered an interim ban on spraying. Some months later, the vehicle she was
travelling in was hit by a truck. Leelakumari Amma lost a leg. She told me
that this was an accident. Maybe, but then maybe not.

About this time, Mohana Kumar, a doctor practicing in a neighbouring
village, wrote to the medical fraternity about the incidences of
abnormality and deformities, but got nowhere. Shree Padre, a freelance
journalist of the area, also decided to write explaining the plight of
people. His email reached Anil Agarwal, director of the Centre for Science
and Environment (CSE), who decided in mid-2000, to send a team to
investigate and collect water, soil and blood samples. The results showed
high levels of endosulfan?proving what was only suspected till then. The
question, still, was what this meant for human health?

The pesticide industry hit back. It first hired a laboratory to ?clean up?
the results. When this failed, it decided to hurt the storytellers. Mohana
Kumar was served legal notices?so many he cannot even count. But hope was
not dead. In 2001, the National Human Rights Commission intervened and
asked the Indian Council of Medical Research for a detailed report.
Scientists from the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Occupational
Health (NIOH) analysed blood samples for pesticides and concluded there was
significantly higher incidence of abnormalities and diseases in populations
exposed to endosulfan as compared to the control population. Endosulfan's
effect on humans was established.

This study was even more inconvenient to industry. The investigators were
attacked and vilified. A case was filed against the key scientist, Aruna
Dewan, the day she retired from government service. The Centre set up
committee after committee, headed by ?eminent? scientists to debunk the CSE
and NIOH reports. This was fought back, at considerable personal cost.
Thanal, a Kerala-based NGO, plays a critical role in research and campaign
against pesticide industry smear and smut. This battle has not been easy.
Over the past 10 years, industry has made it a habit to attack all research
and threaten all scientists.

As a result, it has taken over 15 years for the truth to be known.
Currently, the Kerala government?s ban on endosulfan prevails. Last year,
the Supreme Court banned manufacture and use of the pesticide in the
country. The state has accepted the need to provide compensation to
?endosulfan victims?. A part of the compensation money will be paid by the
PCK. Liability has been established.

Much more remains to be done?from rehabilitating the living to providing
specialised health care to the very ill. Also cleansing traces of
endosulfan in Kasaragod's soil, and taking the district towards organic
farming. The stigma of pesticide contamination has to be wiped clean.

This will happen. I am sure. In

Is Goa Football Development Council is heading in the right direction for
the following reasons:

http://www.tsag.org/gfdc-home.php

1) The committee chosen, nobody knows who is who

2) Its a football development council and more and more technical people
should have been on board. Its development at the grassroots and they are
talking about scientific training...all bullshit.

 3) They have not advertised for the posts in any newspaper in Goa but put
the ad only on the website of sports Authority of Goa (SAG) but somehow
Kenedy DSilva (executive secretary) and Darryl DSouza as the Director of
coaching are directly appointed. Darryl is a B licence coach who himself
needs to be a coach so how will he devise grassroots planning? so what
really happening? . Another appointee is Keneeth Fernandes as football
development Officer. Kenetth Fernandes, Graduated from Sheffield Hallam
University Class of 2009 in MSc with Sport Business Management and he has
worked for Techne Global, while Darryl De Souza worked for the last two
years with Brazil football Academy, Goa of Beto-Bareto.

 4) In what way the Russian University will be able to help Goan football?
They should have tied up with a football club or any football academy.

5) Chief Minister has formed Goa Football Development Council only for the
development of football so why should they spend this money for other
disciplines? Does it make sense?
