The main aim of these sessions is to present images on Portuguese culture through Portuguese films. It focuses and projects the true aspects of the social contemporary reality. It is made up of two core ideas, the first drawing attention to the social reality of the country, the migration and constant change taking place in the Portuguese society, the second values aspects of this reality meditated by literature and cinema, these artistic reflexes of this reality serve as inspiration to both the arts in perspective. Seminar Hall of Arts Faculty, Block B, Goa University *September 21, 2.30 pm *«Aquele Querido Mês de Agosto»,by Miguel Gomes( 2008, Portuguese, subtitles in English, color, 140 mns), portrays living in a Portuguese locality in the Summer, a time of the year when the Portuguese emigrants return to the land that once saw their birth and that changed ( or not) due to their relocation to other parts of the country or abroad. Dr. Fatima Velez de Castro ( CEGOT- Centro de estudos de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território/ Universidade de Coimbra) will interprets the film after the session. *September 22, 10.30 am* “Non, ou a Vã Glória de Mandar”, by Manoel de Oliveira (1990, Portuguese, subtitles in English, color,108m). It is Manoel Oliveira’s a remarkable and very personal reflection, about the identity and fate of Portugal. It is the first film that portrays the memory of the colonial war, evoking various turning points of history, and also a reflection about the destiny of a country, whose men always wished to go beyond, and after 1974 they see themselves redirected/ returned to their original borders. Prof. Doutor Manuel Ferro ( Centro Interuniversitário de Estudos Camonianos/ Universidade de Coimbra) is the session in- charge. Entrance is free. Warm regards. -- Delfim correia da Silva CLPInstituto Camões Agva House, 9/32 Dr.Dada Vaidya Road Panjim 403001 - Goa

Incidentally, there are Goans/Endians who I am guessing have fallen on hard times live there (there is one slum near the Lisbon airport which has majority from Endia...all gone there using the passport thing). To clarify, I am not judging anything; all I hope is there is some sense of balance when showing contemporary life and culture in Lisbon, Porto. The country is obviously greatest of financial health..and its rather sad for the people trying to make it and get on in life.. On the plus side, there is a lot of great music (obviously Portuguese rap) and some football stars (one current striker playing for Inter- he featured in the WC) came out of there.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/brucesterling/tags/amadora/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/mizzcat/4273666599/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/26769...@n00/22385063/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ie9d0F0DQY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEzfZSFHM4E http://youtubevideo.isgoodness.com/watch/video/id/7w1PfYiMtPs P Instituto Camões clpicpan...@gmail.com wrote: --- http://www.GOANET.org --- Goanet joins Noel Rebello to raise money for Daddy's Home (Margao, Goa) Sponsor Noel as he climbs Mt.
