I'm looking for the type of belting that was used inside garments to cinch the garment tight to the body. The examples that I have from vintage clothing look to be a heavy woven silk with raised ridges - very much like gros grain ribbon, but heavier. Quite often the name of the company was either stamped or woven into the band. Like ribbon it's non-ravel on the lengthwise edges I've looked through various tailoring sites - and have found heavy loomed cottons - but nothing close to what I'm looking for. I'd even be happy cutting and sewing my own if I could find yardage approximating what I'm looking for. I've thought of the possibility of sewing two layers of gros grain together - but would rather have something already made up to work with. Thanks for any help you can give. Re: [h-cost] Sourcing Help
Try www.mjtrim.com Enter "polyester webbing" into the search box. That may be what you're looking for. Also try "belting". Good luck. -Original Message- From: h-costume-boun...@indra.com [mailto:h-costume-boun...@indra.com] On Behalf Of Janyce Engan Sent: Friday, October 01, 2010 11:35 AM To: h-costume@mail.indra.com Subject: [h-cost] Sourcing Help Hopefully I can take advantage of the wide body of knowledge out there to help me source this item. Re: [h-cost] Sourcing Help
It's probably Petersham. Looks just like grosgrain, but is woven slightly differently. [h-cost] Glorious 39
Has anyone here seen the movie Glorious 39? It's available on Amazon as a Region 2 DVD (and I have a multiregion player), and looks to have high production values including costumes, but the reviews of the plot vary widely.
