RE: [hlds] how to reduce choke and loss on a LAN
Title: Message general reasons for loss: - Duplex mismatch on your computer, your switch, any equipment between the 2 points, and the server. - choke is going hight - bad network cables general reasons for choke: - rate to low on the player side - sv_maxrate too low onthe server side. - not enough bandwidth on the server or player side. -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Michael RamirezSent: Saturday, November 03, 2001 10:46 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Re: [hlds] how to reduce choke and loss on a LAN Server Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz 512 Mb RAM DIMM 3com Ethernet Adapter Windows 98 SE Clients PIII 1 Ghz 128 RAM DIMM Ovislink Ethernet Adapter SO Windows Millenium NetWorking Switch CNET 24 ports 10/100 Mbps There are 32 Clients, we have problems when there are more than 6 clientes concurrency on the server. It could be caused by a processor, memory, or network bottleneck. In general, reducing your maximum player count helps reduce processor and network load. Reducing the maxrate for clients can reduce the network load. As for memory load... well, 256MB DIMMs are $30 now. :) -Original Message-From: Michael Ramirez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Friday, November 02, 2001 1:34 PMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [hlds] how to reduce choke and loss on a LAN Hi I want to know how to reduce on a lan server choke loss Thanks

RE: Where do resource and other files go?
Occassionally the mapper has some other directories in mind.. Look for the readme or install file in the map archive.. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2001 1:33 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Where do resource and other files go? I'm adding several maps to my server, and I have the following files: *.BSP *.WPT *.WAD *.WAV *.BMP *.TGA I know where to put the BSP and WAD files. I think the WAV files go in HALF-LIFE\VALVE\SOUND. What about the BMP and TGA files? Where do they go?
RE: Reaching for the bootstraps
I can only think of one response THWACK! -Original Message- From: Eric Hall [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 28, 2001 9:37 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Reaching for the bootstraps Hey, y'all, I just thought I'd let you all know that I've reached a point right now where I've let gaming and everything related (including especially adminning of servers) pretty much take over my life, in almost every aspect--replacing not only more typical social interaction but even so far as a job, etc. It's kind of stupid, but it's easy to do because it's fun, often challenging, and because there's really a *community* you're a part of. Regardless, almost like an alcoholic I've reached "rock bottom", and I'm taking this opportunity, somewhat involuntarily, to step away from the gaming community altogether. Now's just the time I have to make that step. I know I've relied on a lot of y'all--including some of you Valve employees--for answers and help on a lot of different subjects, and for that I thank you. I also know I've gotten pretty harsh/sharp with a lot of you, and for that I'm sorry. I really don't mean to be an asshole, but I let it come out like that way too much, often with very little "filtering" going on before I hit the Send button. Yeah, sometimes it was deserved, but most often it wasn't, and regardless it was wrong. I'll be unsubscribing from these lists as soon as I can get listadmin to do its thing, but for future reference, if y'all ever need to get ahold of me for something, I can almost always be reached at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or *always* (assuming MS doesn't go out of business any time soon and public libraries don't go offline, heh) at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Y'all take care and try not to let this game eat too much into your life. Some lessons you have to learn for yourself, and I regret that this has to be one of them. Good bye, good luck, and, well, I guess "good game" would be appropriate ;) Later, Eric (the Deacon remix) http://www.firekite.com
