[hlds] RE: win2k3 services
Depends really where I administer, because of some programs we use are mission critical if they go down we have 3000 users unable to do any work, Microsoft's patches could disrupt this if there is conflict with the update and the programs, so no we don't use automatic updates, all our updates are applied manually and logged after being tested upon the test network. One word of advice, If you are going to use auto updates make sure that it is done when there are fewest users using systems. I also have to agree SMS is the way forward it will save engineers a lot of time patching, especially workstations on remote sites, only issue is slow links i.e 128k mark ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
[hlds] RE: hlds digest, Vol 1 #3072 - 7 msgs
Just out of interest why are you running w2k adv server, you are obviously not using the extra features of adv. Server running CS why don't you downgrade to 2k server and save yourself some money (like 1/2 the cost) on licensing, that's if the copies you are using are originals. [hlds] Hyperthreading
I dislike hyperthreading I don't see the point in it as cpu resources are being shared, pople should just stop being so tight and buy a dual or quad or even eight way system then you will see true performance :D ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
[hlds] Windows 2000 or Windows 2003?
This thread appears to have gone completely OT as it was supposed to be about Windows 2000 or Windows 2003? but has moved onto some lame argument about p3 processors and weather or not they have HT technology the answer to it is NO! only p4 some processors have it Currently looking into blade servers and how well thay are at coping with multiple games running on them just think of all that saved rack space :D AMD_KICKASS Mark Duffy ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
