Yeah they are back now, came up sometime in the night since I just left them running/updating/crashing expecting the new patch. Thanks Valve. Looks like we just wait this one out, not to flame anyone or sound like an ass but I must ask. Was this patch tested? This seems like a show stopper which should have shown up early on.
