In hlds for Windows there is a big difference running at 1000 fps, pings are
much more low. For example, a LAN server running at 100fps gives around 10-20ms
and using sys_tricate 1000 the fps boost up to 999 and the ping is 0-10ms.

Shouldn't I see the same behaviour in Linux?

hz=1000 is in param.h inside the usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 dir for
redhat.

sys_ticrate 1000 can be set in your hlds server startup script at command
line, the autoexec.cfg, or you can just put it in the server.cfg - however
you like.

Im not versed in kernel recompiling so I have been doign alot of reading but most

recompile what I have with that one HZ change. Anyone with any info would be great.

RE: [hlds_linux] How to raise FPS in Linux HLDS?

2004-09-28 Thread admin
sorry i thought the recompile went without saying lol.

If your usr/src/linux-version# dir is there and all the files are too
(assuming your datacenter left them there for you) then all you do is edit
that file and then depends a little on what version - 2.4.x or 2.6

2.6 you dont need to edit it its already at 1000

2.4 - make dep clean all modules modules_install install;lilo;reboot

one thing I do tho is I edit lilo.conf and get the name of the kernel your
loading - linux or linux-up on my system - then instead of 'lilo' in that
step just do 'lilo -R kernelname' (lilo -R linux, on my system)

-R makes it only use that kernel on the next reboot. That way if you hose
the system you call the datacenter for a reboot and your good to go, thus
avoiding them charging you for a fix.

50 is the default

to verify just take out any sys_ticrate settings you have and turn pingboost
off and go to the servers console and type 'sys_ticrate' by itself.

If you have a 2.6 flavor kernel then its at hz=1000 already.

For 2.4 kernels look in the /usr/src/linux-2.4.xx/include/asm-i386/param.h
(thats from memory so it might not be correct but its in the include dir i
know that - lol) and look for the hz = 100 line and change it and recompile.

Hi all,

I'm trying to raise the FPS in our Linux servers in order to improve the
ping,
but it seems to be stuck at 100 fps, even if I set sys_tricate to 1000 or I
use
-pingboost 1/2/3. We are currently using RedHat Linux Enterprise 3 WS in our
servers, which are P4 machines.

Should I take a look at the kernel HZ? I know how to modify this on Gentoo
but
not on RH.

Any suggestion will be welcome, thanks
