I'm phasing out our last 4.11-STABLE boxes now. Most of our FBSD boxes
are 5.4-STABLE (being updated to 5.5). Thus far I've found 6.1-STABLE
to perform fine in test, and will be installed on the 4.11-STABLE
boxes that are replaced.
4.x was a great stable version, but 6.x supports more hardware and options.
I think you'll be happy after upgrade.

Indeed 4.11 was a good stable released but we found 5.4 to be
just as stable and increased performance due to the SMPng work.
We've moved all our core boxes to 6.1 again rock solid and better
performance than 5.4 again. We will also be moving all our servers
to 6.1 as it is stable, performs better and as Jeff said supports
more hardware.

Re: [hlds_linux] Yesterdays SRCDS update causes server not to start anymore

2006-05-26 Thread kama

If you run FreeBSD, you should also know that it is not supported by
Valve. So your request is kind of ridiculous. If there is a program that
need an option in the OS to run, its up to you to get it to work. If you
have a new game that require some functions that have been added to the
graphic driver, dont you update that driver to get the game to work?
This is the same thing.

I am glad that linux binaries still works on FreeBSD since the included
syscalls are really outdated. I am even more pleased with Valves work that
they care about us that want to run on FreeBSD.

Btw, there is an open ticket for any to sign up to for getting a more
up-to-date version of the linuxulator at the Google Summer of
Code 2006. If someone steps up and make a update, hopefully we will get
all the syscalls from a stable 2.6.x kernel.

The distribution used on the server is SUSE 9.2
Does SSE as the reason for the error still apply? Or can there be
another cause?
As I said, before the update everything worked flawlessly.

However, thank you all for your help.

2006-05-25 Thread W0kk3L

hehhe, i wish it was a magic option.. It requires a recompile of the kernel.
Add the following line to your kernel config, and recompile:

options CPU_ENABLE_SSE

make sure you enable the SSE option (FreeBSD guys, what is the magic command
line to make this happen?)

Re: [hlds_linux] Yesterdays SRCDS update causes server not to start anymore

2006-05-25 Thread Mike Norton

This is totally unacceptable! We have been having seg fault's for
some time but now it wont even start at all! A reconfigure of a multi
tasked box system is not doable.

Thanks again Valve!

Please fix!

Thank you.

Is the SSE instruction set required since yesterdays update? I thought
it always was.
I ask because before the update everything worked fine.

Thank you in advance.
