Here's an interesting article comparing different valve
oils: http://www.musichem.com/articles/p_oil_e.htm

[Hornlist] RE: Blue Juice

2008-09-08 Thread Leslie
Need to weigh in re: Blue Juice. Have been using it for a year. I began
using it when my valves began being sluggish and a trumpet friend said give
it a go. Has worked extremely well. No gumming of my valves. In fact, the
repair person who cleans my horn complimented me on the cleanliness of my
valves and the only change was the Blue Juice. BTW, it is a petroleum
product...

[Hornlist] Re: Blue Juice for Valves?

2008-09-07 Thread Steven Mumford

Having attended High School, I feel qualified to answer Steve's question.  You
can use Blue juice on your horn, but don't mix it with any other oils.  It
reacts badly with petrolium based oils and it will gum up.

Why? Well it just gums everything up and dries out too fast. I think
they're
fine for piston valves, but rotary valves are a different story.

If you have to use it for an emergency you have to clean the whole
horn free
of it afterwards in my opinion.
Dear William and List:

I have used Blue Juice on my Lawson horns for nearly six years now and
have never had a problem with it. I find that it works better than Al
Cass, for the two Fourier models that I've owned at least.

Just adding my $.02..
